MUTA-AUT protest outside RJD office demanding CAS salary benefits

Demanding disbursal of pending salaries to teachers of aided colleges, members of MUTA (Madurai Kamaraj University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Mother Teresa Women's University and Alagappa University) along with Association of University Teachers (AUT) Madurai region staged a waiting protest outside Regional Joint Directorate of Collegiate Education's office here on Monday. As part of the State-wide protest, the protesters waited the whole day outside the RJD office. A.T. Senthamarai Kannan, General Secretary, MUTA, said that their key demand was to immediately sanction the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) benefit along with arrears. As per the Government Order of Higher Education Department issued in 2021, the CAS benefits should have reached all eligible lecturers. But due to the confusion in the G.O., it was not properly implemented, he added. When their counterparts in the government colleges have received all benefits including their salaries, only aided-college teachers were devoid of the benefits, he noted. 'It has been more than four years now since the orders were issued, a section of us is left out in receiving any benefits. But almost all staff in northern and western districts have already received their benefits,' he said. As the State-wide full-day demonstration outside RJD offices yielded no results, he said their next action would be to march towards the Directorate of Collegiate Education in Chennai on August 8. 'We are left to see if at least the mass appeal with the shake the consciousness of the government,' he noted.

‘Joota se maarunga': In viral audio clip, it's Bihar MLA vs panchayat secretary

'I'll beat you with a shoe… Don't you know the MLA of your area ('Joota se maarunga, kheench ke'),' a person who identifies himself as Bhai Virendra, an RJD MLA in Bihar, can be heard telling a panchayat secretary over a phone call. Confrontation begins as the secretary fails to recognise the person at the other end of the call. (Image: Unsplash) The secretary, with his curt replies, proves to be spunkier than the 'sachiv' character from the viral hit series 'Panchayat'. A clip of the undated conversation is thus viral across social media platforms. HT has not independently verified it. 'Don't you know Bhai Virendra?' The confrontation begins as the secretary fails to recognise the person at the other end of the call. 'I will beat you with a shoe... Don't you know Bhai Virendra?' says the person, apparently the MLA Bhai Virendra of the RJD himself. "You want me to introduce myself? The whole country knows me," he says. 'When you introduce yourself, then only would I recognise you,' the secretary, whose name and posting station are not revealed, replies. 'I am the MLA of Maner. Don't you know?' says the person identifying as Virendra, 'Have you come from England?' When the secretary tells him to 'please, speak', he gets angrier: 'I will hit you with my shoe... You don't follow protocol!' He then asks the secretary to hasten the issuance of a certificate for one of his constituents: 'The application was sent long ago… Don't be too clever.' The secretary replies: 'If you talk to me with respect, I will also talk to you with respect. Nothing will get done by threats.' Bhai Virendra purportedly says further, 'When you don't know the MLA of your area, then you don't have the right to work.' The secretary shoots back: 'You give it in writing. I am ready for a transfer.' The MLA, as per the viral clip, tells him that 'many other things will happen; transfer is a small thing'. The secretary tell him not to issues threats: 'Your work is in process. When it is done, you will get the information.' This is where the clip ends. So far, Bhai Virendra has not responded.

"You Don't Know Me?" RJD MLA vs 'Sachiv' In ' Panchayat '-Style Face-Off

New Delhi: In a scene that may well be straight out of the 'Panchayat' web series, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA in Bihar engaged in a face-off with a local secretary on a phone call. An audio clip of the confrontation involving the RJD legislator, Bhai Virendra, and the 'sachiv' has gone viral on social media. The row began when Bhai Virendra called the village secretary of his constituency to ask about the status of a death certificate. The 'sachiv' did not recognise the RJD MLA and asked him for his name. To this, the legislator snapped, "You don't know Bhai Virendra? You don't know Bhai Virendra of Maner? You want me to introduce myself?" The official responded: "I will recognise you when you introduce yourself". Bhai Virendra sarcastically asked the secretary whether he was from England. "Are you from England? You don't know the MLA of Maner? The entire country knows me," he said. "Yes, MLA ji, please speak," the 'sachiv' responded. Angered by the response, the RJD MLA threatened to hit the government official to hit him with a shoe. "Yes MLA ji, speak? Joote se maarenge tumko (I will hit you with my shoes). Record this and do what you want. The country knows me, and you're saying you don't know who Bhai Virendra is. You should have greeted me on the call," he said. Bhai Virendra then told him that an application had been sent for a death certificate for Avinash Kumar, the husband of one Rinki Devi. "Get it made. The application was sent long ago. Don't work poorly. You are an employee, work like an employee," he told the village secretary. The face-off escalated after the village secretary told the RJD MLA that he would not be bullied by him. "If you talk to me nicely, then I will talk to you nicely. Do whatever you want, I am not afraid of you. If you speak rudely, I will speak rudely. No one is going to be afraid here," he said. This response made the MLA even more furious; he raged that the village secretary had no right to work if he did not know the local legislator. "Get me transferred," the 'sachiv' challenged. "Transfer? This won't stop at transfer. That is a very small thing. Where are you even from?" Bhai Virendra asked. To this, the village secretary asked the RJD MLA not to threaten him. "Talk to me about work. Your request has been processed. You will know when it is done," he said before cutting the call.
