PNP 911 demo catches real-life police response in Davao del Norte
In Jun Veneracion's report in '24 Oras,' the police responded to a 9-1-1 call from Panabo, Davao del Norte which was witnessed by PNP chief General Nicolas Torre III from Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The caller sought help because of a suspicious man who checked in at a small hotel. The man is also the suspect in an earlier shooting incident in Tagum City, the report said.
The police response was caught in real-time through body cameras worn by responding cops.
'Despite the technology we are using, we are doing very well. But sa bagong sistema natin I think the PNP will have a better response time,' said Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
The new 9-1-1 system will be operational by the middle of August. The system is from a technology provider that won the bid for a contract worth over P1.4 billion.
Among the features of the latest system is the capability to detect the location of the caller.
'Ang features niya ay language sensitive. So kung tatawag ka sa Pampanga, Kapampangan ang sasagot sa iyo,' said Remulla.
(Among the features is that it is language sensitive. For instance, if you call from Pampanga, you will receive a response in Kapampangan.)

DILG's Remulla urges LGUs to pass ordinances vs. 911 prank callers
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla called on local government units (LGUs) Thursday to enact ordinances penalizing prank callers on the national emergency hotline or 911. "Dapat may ordinance ang lahat ng LGUs na may monetary fine, jail time basta prank call," Remulla said in a statement. (All LGUs should have an ordinance providing monetary fines and jail time for prank callers.) The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said the E911 National Office reported that in 2024, close to 12 million calls were received and 60% were identified as "fraudulent, hoax, or prank calls." Citing the Presidential Decree 1727, the DILG said individuals who maliciously spread false information may face imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of up to P40,000, or both. Remulla warned the public that the new system will have tracking capabilities to quickly identify prank callers. "May geofence at geo data kasi ang lahat ng tatawag. So kung tumawag ka at prank call ka, within five minutes, mahuhuli ka nila," Remulla said. (Everyone who calls has a geofence and geo data. Among the additional features of the national emergency hotline system are language-sensitive capabilities and push-to-talk over cellular technologies, which allow real-time coordination with over 1,000 police officers nationwide. Palace: No word yet if arrest warrant out vs. Bato, others in Duterte drug war
Malacañang said Thursday it has yet to receive communication if an arrest warrant has already been issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa and other alleged co-perpetrators of former President Rodrigo Duterte in his drug war. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked about the statement of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin to Kyodo News that Dela Rosa could be arrested once the International Criminal Court issues a warrant of arrest. "Sa ngayon, wala pa po tayong natatanggap na anumang communication kung mayroon na pong warrant of arrest para sa mga co-perpetrators ni dating Pangulong Duterte," Castro said.
