Mariners pull away from Tigers in top of the ninth
Polanco broke a 4-4 tie with his long ball off Tommy Kahnle (1-2). Julio Rodriguez homered for the third straight game and added an RBI double in the ninth. Randy Arozarena and Mitch Garver also homered for Seattle, while Matt Brash (1-0) picked up the win in relief.
Seattle starter Logan Gilbert only allowed two unearned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out nine.
Dillon Dingler drove in two runs and Riley Greene homered for the Tigers, who lost their fourth straight. Detroit starter Jack Flaherty gave up two runs and four hits in five innings with seven strikeouts.
Detroit scored twice in the bottom of the first on Dingler's two-out, two-run double.
Rodriguez put Seattle on the board by ripping a Flaherty fastball over the right field wall for his 14th homer. The Tigers had three singles in the bottom of the inning but didn't score.
Gleyber Torres was thrown out by Rodriguez trying to advance from first to third on a single.
Arozarena knotted the score when he led off the fourth with his 17th homer, driving a Flaherty knuckle curve over the left field wall.
Garver gave the Mariners a 3-2 lead when he led off the seventh with his fifth homer, drilling a cutter from Tyler Holton over the left-center field wall.
Detroit took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Javier Baez led off with a single, advanced on a groundout, stole third and scored on Torres' sacrifice fly. Greene then blasted his 24th homer, taking advantage of a hanging slider from Gabe Speier.
The lead didn't last long. Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh drew walks off Will Vest and Arozarena followed with an RBI double. Luke Raley walked to load the bases. A short flyout and double play allowed Vest to escape without allowing a go-ahead run.

She followed in the footsteps of her father, who was actually an NCAA title winner as a heavyweight wrestler at Minnesota.

Oakmont bans 2023 US Open champion Wyndham Clark for damaging lockers
The former US Open champion Wyndham Clark, who is competing this week at Portrush, has been banned by the prestigious Oakmont Country Club after damaging lockers in a fit of pique during the staging of the event this year. Oakmont has insisted Clark undergoes anger management help if he wants to be allowed back in to the Pittsburgh venue. The move is as sensational as it is unprecedented towards a player of Clark's standing. The 31-year-old represented the US in the last Ryder Cup. Photographs emerged of damage inflicted to lockers by Clark during the US Open last month. Clark had attracted attention at the US PGA Championship in May for throwing his driver at a sign during another temper tantrum. When asked about the US Open incident, Clark said: 'I've had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year some lows. I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I'm very sorry for what happened. But I'd also like to move on, not only for myself but for Oakmont, for the USGA [United States Golf Association] and kind of focus on the rest of this year and things that come up.' Oakmont is clearly unwilling to draw a line under the incident. In a letter to members this week, first obtained by Golf Digest, club president John Lynch outlined Clark's punishment. 'Following multiple discussions with the USGA and the OCC board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property,' Lynch said. 'Reinstatement would be contingent upon Mr Clark fulfilling a number of specific conditions, including full repayment for damages, a meaningful contribution to a charity of the board's choosing, and the successful completion of counselling and/or anger management sessions.' Clark held off Rory McIlroy to win the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club in 2023. His best major finish so far this year is a tie for 46th at the Masters. The US Open will return to Oakmont in 2033. Clark will begin his latest quest for the Open at 10.20am on Thursday in the company of Corey Conners and Tom Hoge.

Jake Paul in first official meeting over Anthony Joshua fight after making amends with Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh
JAKE PAUL has moved a step closer to making an unthinkable fight against Anthony Joshua a reality after meeting with Turki Alalshikh. The YouTuber-turned-boxer first called out AJ earlier in the year - setting into motion and verbal back-and-forth between the two in private. But now Paul has actually brought talks to life after linking up with Saudi boxing chief Alalshikh in New York - despite their previously rocky relationship. Paul's promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian revealed the meeting was not exclusively about a fight with AJ - but the topic was discussed. Bidarian told SunSport: "We talked about a number of things with Turki and AJ was certainly a fighter that we discussed. "It wasn't necessarily (just) about fighting AJ etc - but we talked about a number of fighters with Turki, yes. "But make no mistake, Jake Paul wants that fight and if timing lines up, Jake Paul will fight Anthony Joshua." Joshua's last three fights - including his recent knockout loss in September to Daniel Dubois - have all involved Alalshikh. And AJ's promoter Eddie Hearn revealed talks for a fresh two-bout deal with the Saudi chief were ongoing earlier in the year. "There's no reason for Jake and Turki to be on opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to boxing, because they have a common goal. "And that common goal is to make boxing the number one sport in the world, once again, like it used to be. And Jake's done a great job of that with the youth. "There's never been more youth interest within boxing and Turki's done a great job of that in terms of breaking down the walls of fragmentation on the men's side and giving boxing some of its biggest fights. "Our strategy is gonna continue to be to be fighter first and we're gonna create an umbrella brand for women's boxing that has the best product. "What you saw last Friday night was eight fights and at least six of them were very high-level boxing. "And that's very unique in the sport to have balanced top tier athletes going at it from A to Z on the card and that's what we want to offer."
