Stranger Things fans 'figure out who's going to die' after season 5 trailer
Stranger Things fans think they may have worked out which characters are set to die in season five.
The trailer for the fifth and final season of Netflix's Stranger Things was released earlier this week, and fan theories have been coming in thick and fast about how the show will be wrapped up.
The series has shown over the years that it's not afraid to kill off a lovable character or two – RIP to Eddie Munson and Dr Alexei.
However, usually the show will introduce a character in a series for the audience to fall in love with them, and then kill them off. This has saved them from getting rid of any of the main cast.
But, this said, the upcoming season is going to be the last, so is it finally time to kill off some of the main cast?
After watching the trailer, fans think they know who's going to be killed off…Steve Harrington.
The trailer two-and-a-half-minute trailer, opens on Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) who is tinkering with a device in a van, before ominously proclaiming 'burn commencing in five, four, three, two, and…'
The camera flicks to all our major players, including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Maya Hawke as Robin and Natalie Dyer as Nancy all in a room together with grim expressions on their face.
Across the internet, Steve's death is a leading theory among fans, with some pointing to Nancy crying in the trailer.
'People saying Nancy was crying bc either Jonathan or Steve dies imagine having Steve Harrington die around the holidays,' said itslydiaaaa on X.
'I SWEAR TO GOD THAT NANCY CRYING SCENE IF STEVE DIES I SWEAR,' said maxcrzzz.
Of course, Nancy crying could mean that any number of characters have died, including her close family members or current boyfriend, Jonathan.
'Everyone thinks Nancy's crying over Jonathan or Steve's death but what if it's because she came home to find Karen & Ted slaughtered and Holly missing? Then what? 😭' said JoshTheMedic on X.
'My prediction is Jonathan will go out in a hero moment with the clash song playing. And obviously that is Nancy crying because of it,' said CinemaGulp.
Fans on Reddit have also pointed out that while Steve is a fan-favourite character, his death wouldn't prohibit the rest of the characters from moving on with their lives, meaning the ending could still be considered somewhat happy.
'From my perspective, the main people that will be affected by his death will be Robin and Dustin (obvi maybe even Nancy but she still has Jonathan, Mike, and her entire family). I feel like this would be the death that would least impact the entire group,' said Strangestsalmon.
In the trailer, Will can be heard telling someone to 'RUN!' On Twitter, fans have shared 'leaked footage' that supposedly proves Will was talking to Steve, which could further prove that his life is going to be in jeopardy.
While this leaked footage may be total nonsense, it is also supported by another fan theory based on a video shared by the creators of the series, the Duffer brothers- which has since been clipped on X.
While mapping out a scene with Funk Pop toys, the Duffer brothers showed that the toy depicting Steve was flat on its back and out of the action – could this mean that he's killed off?
Metro asked readers on Facebook about their theories, and fans were happy to share their two cents.
'I have a theory but it's just my opinion I think between Steve, Jonathan or 11 might not survive it's just my theory nothing else,' said Michelle Mckenzie.
'11, Steve, Hopper, Will, Max will die. In the trailer, Dustin is sobbing into Hoppers chest. If it's all just a D&D game, I'm burning the place down,' said Joni Blanchard.
Of course, the Duffer brothers could just go rogue and kill them all, and we know they're not afraid to play with our feelings. More Trending
At the end of season four, Max's life was left hanging in the balance, comatose in a hospital after being attacked by Vecna.
Things also didn't look good as Vecna's plan came to fruition and the Upside Down was unleashed onto Hawkins. The season ended with the an earthquake of over 7 on the Richter scale tearing the town apart, with the Upside Down leaking into the town.
The series is set to be released in November, with more episodes expected to be staggered in their release and follow in the weeks after. The first of the three releases will be on November 26, with the second taking place on December 25, and the final shows released on December 31.

Sex Education star looks worlds away from Netflix role in tense mystery thriller streaming soon
One of Sex Education's biggest breakout stars took on a very different role in a sun-soaked new drama coming to streaming soon Sex Education star Emma Mackey's latest cinematic role will be available to watch at home very soon. Best known for portraying Maeve Wiley in all four seasons of Netflix 's beloved comedy-drama, she has since appeared in major films like Barbie and Death on the Nile. Still currently in cinemas, her latest project sees her taking on her first leading role in a provocative and mysterious drama based on a Booker Prize nominated novel. Inspired by Deborah Levy's 2016 novel of the same name, Hot Milk follows Mackey as Sofia, a young woman whose mother, Rose (played by Fiona Shaw), has contracted an unknown illness that's left her wheelchair-bound. When the mother-daughter pair travel to a small Spanish seaside town to track down a physician with unusual methods who could hold the cure, Sofia finds herself drawn to an alluring traveller named Ingrid (Vicky Krieps). The film will be streaming on Mubi from Friday, 22nd August for anyone who missed out on Mackey's sultry and thought-provoking drama on the big screen. The Independent gave Hot Milk four stars, calling it "a slippery, subversive coming-of-age tale'. Mackey and Krieps were praised as 'formidable' in The Guardian, while Deadline says Shaw's performance is 'truly extraordinary'. One fan of the film gave it a five-star Google review, penning: 'Powerful performances set against dreamlike scenery where reality merges with imagination. 'Starts as a slow burn but builds into a heightened frenzy of complex sensations that is impossible not to sense as you witness each separate character's life unravel and deteriorate.' Someone else praised: 'Fever dream magic, great indie film if you like trippy movies, reminds me of I'm Thinking of Ending Things on Netflix.' Enthusiasm for the film continued on Letterboxd, where one user wrote: 'The pace was perfect. The score was stunning. 'The acting was incredible, Fiona Shaw is such a talented actor. Emma Mackey is just an unreal actress too. 'I felt as if she was speaking to me and I shall carry these words with me the rest of my life. This was a film I watched at the right time in my life. A film I didn't know I needed till I had seen it. I wish I had words to properly express how much I adore this film.' And a final fan said: 'Beautiful adaptation of the book, felt it in my soul - the story, the characters, the setting.... so moving and so real.' Film fanatics should make sure they sign up to Mubi to check out this indie cinema gem, and many more movie masterpieces, in just under a month's time. Hot Milk will be released Friday, 22nd August on Mubi.

Wednesday season 2 bosses open up on Joanna Lumley's unrecognisable transformation
A whole host of new characters have been added to season two of Wednesday and fans were left stunned by Joanna Lumley's transformation in the Netflix show Wednesday season two will premiere on Netflix on August 6 and the show has been renewed for a third season. For the latest outing, a whole host of new characters have been added alongside Jenna Ortega, who has opened up on the pressures of filming the new season. Whilst the star-studded cast welcomes the likes of Lady Gaga and Steve Buscemi, the hit series will also see Joanna Lumley as Morticia's (Catherine Zeta-Jones) mother. The Absolutely Fabulous star and former model has collaborated with Tim Burton on two previous film projects - James and the Giant Peach and Corpse Bride. Wednesday showrunner Miles Millar said she was at the top of their list to play Hester, sharing: "The idea of bringing Hester, Morticia's mother, into the fold was something we were so excited about. "In the first season we introduced Fester, and then this season we thought, 'Let's introduce Grandmama.' "At the top of our list was Joanna Lumley. Joanna just inhabited this role. And the hair and makeup - she has this extraordinary wig." "Colleen Atwood, our incredible costume designer, designed these amazing costumes. "The first day on set when Joanna walked on, she just was Hester, and she nailed every single line, and it's just so delicious. "The Wednesday-Hester relationship is unique and different; you see a twinkle in both their eyes when they're together on-screen. I think everyone is going to fall in love with Hester." The 79 year old sent fans into a frenzy with her jaw-dropping transformation as she appeared in the show's trailer. The footage triggered a wave of reactions from supporters across social media platforms, with remarks describing her look as "perfect" and "fabulous". Writing on X, previously known as Twitter, one admirer commented: "Grandmama got a makeover." A second person posted: "Absolutely Fabulous! !" making reference to the performer's legendary Patsy Stone character. Alfred Gough, who co-created the programme, revealed that for the second series they were keen to explore a contrasting mother-daughter dynamic. He explained: "We see Hester and Morticia's relationship, and how there are similarities and differences between Morticia and Wednesday's relationship. "And of course, Wednesday and Hester get along great. Other than Fester, Grandmama is probably Wednesday's favorite person and the one she feels the most kinship with. "It's also somebody she can use against her mother. So it's a delicious family triangle to set up." Wednesday season 2 will premiere on Netflix on August 6
