Farmer Wants A Wife winner calls out the show's producers for 'sad' change

Yahoo02-05-2025

Farmer Wants A Wife returned to screens this week with four brand new farmers embarking on a quest to find their true love. While the first two episodes have been well-received on social media, many fans have said they're hopeful that this season won't be as 'drama-filled' as previous years.
Ever since the series was rebooted on Channel 7 in 2020, viewers have complained that the once-wholesome reality show has become too similar to Married At First Sight thanks to certain controversial storylines and scandalous moments. Daisy Lamb, who found love on the show last season with Todd Melbourne, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she agrees the show needs to tone down the level of drama and return to its original format.
'It's definitely the producers that chase that. The farmers are always so nervous when they go into it, and they just want an easy time, but drama sells,' she shares. 'People watch it for the drama, and it's just really sad that that's the way that Channel Seven has felt the need to go rather than just keeping it to the original first 12 seasons or something. They were so wholesome and just a really great watch.'

Daisy says she's hopeful Australia 'will get sick of it eventually', but doesn't think it will happen anytime soon after millions of people tuned into last year's finale.
'If nothing changes with the audience and the viewers, then nothing will change with their production either,' she asserts.
Daisy's 2024 co-star Sophie Trethowan recently told Yahoo Lifestyle that she was disappointed so many wholesome scenes of herself and Dustin Manwaring falling in love were edited out of the show.
'I guess everyone loves a bit of drama, and that's why people do stay tuned in, but there are a lot of people who do just really like those genuine love stories. I know for me and Dustin, there was so much that didn't go to air that wasn't drama-filled. They were just really nice moments,' she shared.
'I guess it is a drama reality love show at the end of the day, but you do see lots of comments where people just want to see those genuine love stories, and I feel like a lot of things get left out.'
Farmer Corey told Yahoo Lifestyle before the new season premiered that he went into the experience knowing that 'every farm would have their own challenges and drama along the way', but believes it's 'natural' rather than produced.
'There's always going to be a little bit of drama, maybe a little bit of cattiness along the way and antagonism amongst the girls, because they're all there and they're all trying to compete for your attention,' he remarked.
'They all want you at the end of the day. So I think naturally, there is going to be a little bit of drama. But I think it's all mainly natural drama and girls overthinking and getting in their heads and getting anxiety, things like that, when it comes to it.'

Meanwhile, Farmer Thomas said he was 'pretty lucky' that his contestants got along during filming and developed strong friendships, so he didn't experience any drama himself.
'I guess they didn't want to do anything to upset the other ladies, so they were very respectful to each other,' he added. 'I don't know if they had some little meeting or code or something that they were going to go on, but I do respect them for playing true to themself and not trying to hurt someone for their own benefit.'

Live updates: Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' trial coverage

Update: Date: 13 min ago Title: What Jane said on her final day of testimony yesterday Content: 'Jane,' one of Sean 'Diddy' Combs' accusers testifying under a pseudonym, concluded her testimony yesterday after undergoing cross-examination and redirect questioning. Here's a look at what she said on her last day on the stand: 'Breaking point': Jane testified again about the physical altercation she and Combs had in 2024 over a woman she believed Combs was spending time with on a trip. 'At this point, I had just reached my breaking point in the relationship,' she said. Jane testified that after things escalated, she called the woman from Combs' phone and the two traded insults. She said Combs also FaceTimed his assistant, Jonathan, who told Jane that the other woman did not go on the trip. Confusing cycle: Jane testified that the reason she sent Combs affectionate text messages after the 2023 Turks and Caicos trip, which she had previously described as disappointing, was because of a confusing cycle in which Combs would 'shower' her with 'love and affection,' with 'sexual exploitation in between.' She said she was able to 'compartmentalize all the bad stuff' and focus on 'the good parts.' Other women: When asked why she brought up 'hotel nights' to Combs during discussions about other women in his life, Jane testified that she was trying to express, 'Why do I have to be degraded in order to be with you?' Becoming emotional, she added that she was trying to say, 'Why do I have to break all my boundaries and compromise on myself … but they can still experience you in the way I want to?' Rent threats: Jane testified that she began telling Combs she didn't want to participate in 'hotel nights' in 2021 but became more vocal about it in 2023. She said that by 2023, Combs had been paying her rent for several months and would often mention her rent in connection with 'hotel nights.' Jane added that Combs threatened to stop paying her rent 'in all different types of ways.'
