Jessica Simpson Says ‘Nashville Canyon' EP Is About ‘Learning to Hear My Heart Again'
Jessica Simpson listened to her heart when it came to crafting her Nashville Canyon, Part 1 record.
'I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free. His eyes are on the sparrow and I know He watches me,' Simpson, 44, wrote via Instagram on Friday, March 21. 'God told me I needed to feel the fear and do it anyway as I'm moving into my truth while embracing the beauty of uncertainty. And so I did.'
According to Simpson, her newly released EP is 'the result of learning to hear my heart again, free from industry expectations.'
'It's about surrendering, letting my voice be my main guide, and trusting the journey ahead,' she explained. 'Always inviting God into the room where music creates itself, with a voice that communicates on a spiritual level of grace without fear and allowing the music to be my main voice.'
Jessica Simpson Says Ex Eric Johnson 'Supported' Her Making New Music in Nashville
Simpson concluded, 'Nashville Canyon: Part 1 is a FEELING. Now, with its release, I hope everyone that is meant to catch the vibes will wrap their heart and soul around it just like I have within their own journey.'
Simpson previously said that she took lyrical inspiration from her breakup with Eric Johnson — they separated earlier this year after a decade of marriage — while writing Nashville Canyon.
'I was out in Nashville and I had my heart wide open, I was in a very intuitive state and I had to ask some very personal questions on the home front,' Simpson recalled during a performance at Texas' Luck Reunion festival on March 14. 'I found out that my world had been turned upside down and that life was very different.'
She added at the time, "When we open our hearts, sometimes we're vulnerable and it just gets broken. Maybe sometimes we forget that we've been broken for a really long time, but when we meet ourselves, when we write, when we sing [and] when we connect with ourselves, we find all the answers.'
Jessica Simpson Can't Wait for Fans to Hear the 'Soundtrack to My Soul' Amid Eric Johnson Separation
Simpson and former NFL star Johnson, 45, had been together since 2010, going on to welcome daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, 5, as well as son Ace, 11. Us Weekly confirmed in January that Simpson and Johnson separated.
'Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,' Simpson told Us in a statement. 'Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.'
The next month, Simpson told People that Johnson was 'still very much a part of my life' as they focused on amicably coparenting their three children.
Nashville Canyon, Part 1 is out now.

Kate ‘in Disgust' of Harry Amid Reports Their Relationship Has ‘Dramatically Deteriorated' Under the ‘Influence' of Meghan
It's hard to keep track of all the feuds in the British Royal family at this point. King Charles is feuding with Prince Harry. So is Prince William. And it seems Prince William is also feuding with Prince Andrew. Everyone seems to be taking sides. And recently, there were reports that Kate Middleton was trying to fix her husband's relationship with her brother, Prince Harry, with whom she's always been close. Reportedly, that's not true anymore, if it ever was. Instead, it seems like she's just supporting her husband and his decisions regarding his brother. An unnamed source told Us Weekly that the Prince and Princess of Wales 'just don't understand why Harry doesn't stay quiet.' But there's more. According to Kinsey Schofield, host of the 'To Di For Daily' podcast, William is also upset about how Kate has been treated. More from StyleCaster Princess Alexandra Subtly Took a Side in Charles & Harry's Feud Amid Reports There's 'No Turning Back' in Their Relationship Prince Edward Could Predict 'Desperately Lonely' Harry's Future Amid Reports Charles' Funeral May Be the Last Time He Ever Sees His Family Again Related: Did William really cheat on Kate? 'Catherine has been nothing but supportive of her husband – and that's exactly why Prince William is so deeply hurt,' Schofield explained. 'His pain doesn't come from personal insults or headlines. It comes from his instinct to protect the woman he loves… But what cuts the deepest is Harry's treatment of Catherine. She's always loved him, always treated him like a little brother. That's the betrayal William won't forget… But Harry never seems to think about the consequences.' British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox New Digital that Middleton had been 'saddened' by the rift between the brothers. But she won't intervene. 'Catherine and Harry shared a fun humor and were often seen giggling together at events,' Chard explained. 'Sadly and upsettingly, Princess Catherine was dragged into the public negative narrative which was a real smack round the face for the kind sister-in-law who tried hard to be the peacemaker between the brothers.' Recent reports had indicated that, even though Middleton was upset at Harry's recent interview, she was trying to mediate between the brothers. 'Kate's deeply upset with Harry, but she's also frustrated that William and the rest of the family have allowed things to deteriorate this badly,' the insider said, adding that, 'It's heartbreaking for her to watch the family so publicly divided.' also reported that 'William is furious that Harry's speaking out again and doing interviews – he's convinced this isn't the end of it.' And Prince William has, therefore, given instructions to the rest of the family not to communicate with Harry. 'He's made it clear to the rest of the family that they should keep their distance from the Sussexes, because anything shared could be turned against them,' the report also said. According to Royal expert Hilary Fordwich, all of this only adds to the strained relationship between Middleton and Prince Harry, who used to be close. 'Princess Catherine and Prince Harry's relationship has dramatically deteriorated over recent years,' Fordwich claimed. 'There is a huge sense of betrayal and broader frustration, as well as a massive cultural clash. How Harry has changed under the influence of Meghan Markle has been baffling both to the royal family and beyond.' 'Catherine, in particular, is deeply wounded by Harry's media disclosures airing family grievances and betraying any family loyalty while dismissing royal values. Catherine was once the peacemaker between the feuding brothers. She often encouraged William to reconcile,' she also said, adding, 'However, after years of futile efforts, she has now thrown her hands up in disgust, stepping back from any role of attempting to mediate a reconciliation since the rift between the brothers kept widening.' The drama continues, and it doesn't seem like it'll get better anytime soon. Nara and Lucky Blue Smith Are Expecting Another Baby—Less Than a Year After Saying They Were ‘Done'
Model and content creator Nara Smith first crossed paths with fellow IMG model Lucky Blue Smith in 2019. Within a year, the two had quietly tied the knot, started a family, and begun building the life that would later turn them into one of TikTok's most recognizable couples. While they've kept many details of their personal lives private, both have occasionally opened up online or in interviews about their relationship, family life, and being in the public eye. Since their wedding in 2020, they've welcomed three children together and amassed a massive following across social media—largely due to Nara's cooking-from-scratch videos, often shot in their home kitchen. Below, a full timeline of their relationship so far. Nara and Lucky met during Milan Fashion Week while both were working as models. Shortly after, Lucky initiated contact by messaging Nara on Instagram. According to the couple, they moved from texting to a seven-hour phone call—and have spoken daily ever since. 'There hasn't been a day since that day that we've not been talking,' Nara shared in an April 2025 Vogue interview. 'I messaged Nara on Instagram, we started texting a little bit, I was very slow at texting,' Lucky revealed in the interview. 'I like to take my time with what I'm going to say.' Nara quipped, 'Five business days?' That fall, they made their relationship public on Instagram. Lucky reportedly proposed to Nara in 2019. Nara later revealed she developed a crush on Lucky years earlier after seeing him appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 'After we got married I was thinking about our journey and realized that at 15 I saw an Ellen interview with Lucky and had a crush on him but then forgot about it until later 😭,' she wrote in a December 2024 Instagram post. Nara and Lucky got married in a small beach ceremony in California. Nara shared a video from the day captioned, 'I married my best friend today.' The couple welcomed their first daughter, Rumble Honey Smith. Nara shared the news on Instagram with the caption, 'little baby angel Rumble Honey 10/7/20.' Nara gave birth to their second child, a son named Slim Easy. For his birthday the following year, she posted a video of a homemade donut tower to mark the occasion, writing, 'Can't believe how quickly time flies and how I've got a 2-year-old best friend now.' Their third child, daughter Whimsy Lou, was born. Nara announced her arrival on April 11 with a short video captioned, 'Our little angel has arrived!' The couple said they are not planning to have more children. 'Yep, I'm done,' Nara said in a GQ video, echoing Lucky's sentiment. They explained that while they originally envisioned a larger family, three children now feels like the right number. Nara and Lucky attended the Ralph Lauren Spring 2025 show in the Hamptons as part of New York Fashion Week. Lucky walked the runway, and the couple shared a few moments on camera together. Around the same time, they revealed plans to move to the East Coast, explaining in a TikTok video that they're hoping to settle somewhere quieter with more space for gardening and raising their family. Nara posted a throwback clip of Lucky's 2019 proposal to mark their five-year engagement anniversary. In the caption, she reflected on how their life has unfolded since, writing, 'I wish I could tell 18-year-old me just how beautiful life would become.' Nara and Lucky revealed they are expecting their fourth child. In a reel posted to Instagram and TikTok, Nara approached Lucky in a flowing cream blouse and skirt before gently cradling her growing baby bump. Lucky placed a hand on her stomach and kissed it as they smiled toward the camera. 'Our little surprise,' she wrote in the caption, adding 'baby 4 loading...' over the video. The announcement came nearly a year after the couple said they were done having children. They've yet to share how far along Nara is or the baby's gender. This story will be updated.
