Strictly Come Dancing superfans have been reacting to the news that Spanish pro dancer, Gorka Marquez, will not be dancing with a partner when the 2025 series returns. With just weeks to go before the show returns with a new raft of celebrities, Gorka has confirmed he won't be dancing competitively this year due to commitments in his home country.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday (August 6), during the second week of rehearsals ahead of the pre-recording of the group numbers set to feature throughout the upcoming series, Gorka revealed he was returning as a judge to the Spanish version of Strictly, Bailando con las estrellas, for a second series, reports the MEN. Sharing the news on Instagram on Wednesday (August 6), the 34-year-old said: "I am happy to announce that I will be back for season two of BAILANDO CON LAS ESTRELLAS as a judge from September.

"Due to the filming dates this means that I won't be competing with a partner this year in Strictly but I will be a part of lots of the group numbers and will be back for final weeks of the show to support the rest of my fellow pros and their celebrities in what is going to be an AMAZING SERIES."
"As always thank you for all The love and support and remember! Keep dancing!!!" His fiancée Gemma Atkinson was quick to respond, saying: "Vamos! Very proud."

His Strictly co-stars were also quick to show their support while fans shared how gutted they were that he won't be competing this year.
@allthingskps_ said: "Noooooo! Strictly won't be the same without you! I hope you enjoy every minute of it!" @wendysmith3076 commented: "Gutted wanted you to win."
@staceyhorton_ wrote: "Gutted , always love to see u with a partner but least we will still see u in the group numbers." @sjhnce replied: "Congratulations and very well deserved too. It won't be the same without you on Strictly."

Currently, there are no celebrities confirmed for the BBC One dance contest's 2025 series. It was earlier this year that the broadcaster confirmed which professional dancers would be back on the dance floor this year.
For the upcoming series, professional dancers Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez and Luba Mushtuk will take to the floor once more.
They'll also be joined by Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola.

And when the pro line-up was confirmed, it was also revealed that two brand new professional dancers will be making their debut, and the newcomers have since been revealed as So You Think You Can Dance champion Alexis Warr and Australia's Dancing With The Stars' Julian Caillon.

Nicola Walker dealt major blow as Scottish BBC series axed

It has been axed after two series, with the BBC confirming that there are no plans to make any more episodes Nicola Walker's Annika will not be making a comeback for a third series on the BBC, it has been revealed. ‌ The 55-year-old star brought DI Annika Strandhed to life across two series of the detective drama, and left fans delighted. ‌ Nevertheless, UKTV, which broadcasts the programme on U+Alibi and BBC, has announced that despite the series concluding with a cliffhanger, there are no current intentions to create additional episodes. ‌ A representative informed "We are incredibly proud of the success of Annika on U+Alibi, but there are no current plans for a third series." Annika originated from the BBC Radio 4 audio drama, Annika Strandhed, where Nicola also voiced the principal character. ‌ The programme was renowned for its distinctive style, with the Marine Homicide Unit detective regularly breaking the fourth wall to speak directly to viewers. The drama saw Annika leading the fictional Glasgow-based Marine Homicide Unit, with the cast consisting of Katie Leung as DC Blair Ferguson, Jamie Sives as DS Michael McAndrews, Ukweli Roach as DS Tyrone Clarke and Kate Dickie as DCI Diane Oban. The star-studded cast also included Doctor Who star Varada Sethu joining as DC Harper Weston in season two, while Paul McGann played Annika's love interest Jake Strathearn, and Silvie Furneaux was her daughter, Morgan. Annika's axe comes despite its impressive Rotten Tomatoes rating, with an 83% score and a 96% audience rating. "Wow, just wow. Bring on season 3," one fan commented. ‌ Another said: "The marvellous Nicola Walker never disappoints, another great British crime drama. Scottish setting is beautiful." Someone else praised: "Oh my god this show is so underrated, it's so funny and Nicola Walker just makes it a 10/10." Another echoed: "I love this show. It is so understated but the humour really catches you unawares and I find myself laughing sometimes before I realise why. The breaking down of the four wall brings helps the viewer feel as if they are included and during those moments in which Annika speaks to us I find myself learning new things which is unusual for a crime show." ‌ Nicola previously admitted it took some time to get used to the unconventional way of bringing viewers insight into Annika. She said: "With most characters there is so much subtext. But there is no subtext with Annika because the subtext is her talking directly to you and telling you what she feels. By the end, we are going to know her as well as she knows herself. ‌ "On the first day, I kept stopping and laughing. It felt so wrong. But by the end, I was so into it, I was flicking looks at the camera all the time. I'm very worried about my next job now – 'Why does she keep looking down the lens?' It might have ruined me for the future!" But she explained the device was essential when it came to adapting the original audio drama. She said: "When he started talking about a television series, my first question was, how would you populate the world which has previously only been in Annika's head? Nick [Walker, writer] said immediately, 'We're going to break the fourth wall!' "So, she still has Norwegian heritage, she is still an outsider, and she still has a different way of coping with life and work, but the hook is the fact that this is the only detective series where the audience is the silent sidekick. We are in cahoots with her." Annika is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

But he's been working with Scottish bass player/composer Daniel Bowden and the rest of the Fergus McCreadie Trio alongside composer Howard Drossin on the soundtrack of his new film - and Daniel shared an image of him hanging out in a studio, with Spike getting his hands on a Queen's Park scarf. Daniel shared the picture and said: "Some highlights from the craziest week ever… last November we had the privilege of playing on the soundtrack of the new Spike Lee film 'Highest 2 Lowest' in NYC. "It was an incredible experience working and hanging with Spike and Howard Drossin (and everyone else involved in the production) - definitely a highlight of my career so far! "The film stars Denzel Washington and Asap Rocky and is coming out this September in cinemas and on Apple TV. Check it out! "There is also a soundtrack album, which features an EP of trio tracks we recorded for the film. That comes out 15th of August!" Scots jazz artist McCreadie also shared an image of the gang hanging out with the star, writing: "Spike came to Edinburgh to meet us at Edinburgh Jazz Festival in 2024 then we went over to NYC in November to record Stony Gate for the film, as well as a bunch of other cues for the film, what a ridiculous trip it was!"
