Nanta leads delegation to Asia-Pacific Transport Forum in South Korea
In a statement today, the Ministry of Works said it received an invitation from South Korea's Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and aims to explore potential collaborations, technology transfer in ITS and the development of infrastructure built on advanced technologies.
As Malaysia's ITS Council chairman, Nanta is scheduled to attend the High-Level Roundtable Meeting on May 28 in Suwon Special City.
The roundtable is held alongside the Asia-Pacific ITS Forum 2025, which runs from May 28 to 30 at the Suwon Convention Centre.
'The meeting will gather ministers and leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange best practices and drive forward the ITS agenda and sustainable transport development,' the statement added.
'The high-level roundtable meeting will enable participating leaders and country representatives to strengthen global collaboration and chart a more inclusive path forward for ITS development,' the statement read.
The organisers are expecting over 10,000 participants and 196 exhibitors to attend the forum.
The ministry said the forum offers a valuable opportunity for Malaysia to showcase its national vision and strategies for sustainable mobility, driven by ITS technology.
The delegation will also engage with global industry players to share experiences and explore the mainstreaming of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics as effective solutions to transport and mobility challenges.
'This working visit is expected to further enhance Malaysia-South Korea ties, which date back to 1960, particularly in the areas of technology, infrastructure and smart transport innovation,' the ministry said.
South Korea is currently Malaysia's eighth-largest trading partner, with total trade at RM109.34 billion (USD23.94 billion) in 2024.

DBKL said it is committed to public engagement, transparency, and inclusive decision-making in urban planning. PETALING JAYA : New planning regulations for Kuala Lumpur will continue to require stakeholder consultation, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said today. DBKL said although formal objections to the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (PTKL 2040) no longer apply following its gazettement on June 11, it remains committed to best planning practices through the implementation of Rule 3 of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Planning Rules 2025, which mandates stakeholder consultations. It explained that such consultation is required for specific types of proposed developments, such as high-density projects or temporary developments, which require public feedback before approval is granted. 'Additionally, every approved development project in Kuala Lumpur is required to implement a communication strategy covering the pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases,' it said in a statement. 'This ensures that developers engage with nearby residents to clearly explain the planned development and the benefits it will bring to the local community.' DBKL said these measures reflect its ongoing commitment to public engagement, transparency, and inclusive decision-making in urban planning. It was responding to criticism by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok over the 'secret' gazettement of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Planning Rules 2025, which took place on June 13 and became effective three days later. Kok said the rules, which replace decades-old planning laws, weaken transparency and limit public objections to development projects. In its statement, DBKL said it remains dedicated to ensuring that the city is developed in an organised, inclusive, and liveable manner, with public input serving as a key foundation of its planning process. It also stressed that PTKL 2040's preparation was carried out transparently and in full compliance with legal provisions, with all stakeholders given the opportunity to provide input. It said it implemented a variety of publicity and public engagement methods to ensure broad community participation in line with Sections 14 and 15 of the Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982. The public participation period began on Jan 31, 2024, was extended twice, and ended on April 15, 2024, it said. During this time, DBKL said it hosted permanent and mobile exhibitions across Kuala Lumpur and conducted 13 public briefing sessions, including ones involving Kuala Lumpur MPs. It also said it went beyond the legal requirements by conducting more engagement sessions than required under the Federal Territory (Planning) Act. Fifty-one engagement sessions involving more than 1,500 individuals and groups were organised. The participants included academics, MPs, professionals, residents' associations, government bodies, and local authorities. These engagement efforts spanned several years and formats, and included early pre-consultation sessions in 2019, informal meetings with MPs in 2020, and technical meetings with 32 government bodies. DBKL also said it gathered feedback through online surveys from 300 residents' associations, hosted focus group discussions with 521 participants, held consultation sessions with MPs in 2023, and organised an open day for the draft amendment in May.

The ruckus began when Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) criticised a speech by Abdul Hadi Awang (PN-Marang) on the 13th Malaysia Plan, saying that it lacked policy points. He singled out a remark in which Hadi had blamed Pakatan Harapan, DAP and other parties for Kuala Lumpur's problems, calling it irrelevant to the document. Several PAS MPs, including Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) and Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang), jeered in response. RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) tried to raise a point of order but was drowned out by shouts and insults aimed at his party, DAP. One of the opposition MPs was heard saying 'Wherever DAP is in administration, there are problems.' Rayer subsequently asked if they would accept him calling PAS 'Parti Ajaran Sesat', prompting further uproar. Suhaizan Kayat (PH-Pulai), who was standing in to chair proceedings, struggled to restore order before Johari rushed in from his chambers and issued the MPs a sharp rebuke. 'There are schoolchildren here before us. From my chamber, I could hear insults and foul words. If we want this nation to progress, leaders must progress. Not like this,' Johari said. As Johari spoke, some opposition MPs staged a walkout, further drawing his ire. He reminded both sides, each with experience in government, to respect senior leaders and maintain civility during debates. Rayer later said that two PAS MPs had asked him to 'come out for a fight' before exiting the Dewan Rakyat. Police probing Parliament scuffle that left officer injured

Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. Section 353 provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, while Section 427 provides for a jail term of not less than a year and not more than five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. In a statement, Fadil referenced a video on TikTok which saw participants of a gathering 'provoking and forcefully breaching' police officers who were on duty during the event at Jalan Parlimen. He said police respected the public's right to express opinions and to assemble peacefully, and were committed to playing their role as a facilitator at such events. '(But) these rights should be exercised responsibly and prudently,' he said. 'Firm action will be taken against individuals or groups who instigate chaos or engage in excessive provocation.' Earlier today, FMT reported that more than 100 plantation workers from Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah and Johor marched from Taman Tugu in the capital to Parliament to submit a memorandum on housing and a draft bill making it compulsory for estates to provide homes for local plantation workers. Police blocked the group from gathering at Parliament's gates but later allowed the workers to hand over the documents to deputy law and institutional reform minister M Kulasegaran and opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan.
