FRESH off the completion of its first flagship development in Johor Baru, property developer Linbaq Holding Sdn Bhd is all set for its next venture – a 80.9ha project in Iskandar Puteri.
Linbaq Holding chairman Tan Sri Lau Yin Peng said their next flagship project, Ascent Park, has a gross development value of over RM5.6bil.
'The project will be rolled out in three phases, with the first phase alone covering over 24.2ha of land.
'It will feature double-storey homes and shoplots and is set to launch in the third quarter of this year.
'We will be focusing on this project, located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), for the next three to six years.
'We believe it is poised to ignite the next wave of property interest,' he said.
Lau highlighted that the upcoming development would also emphasise sustainable green living, as it would be anchored by a 2.02ha central park.
Lau says the project obtained its certificate of completion and compliance in mid-May.
The project has obtained GreenRE certification ahead of its launch, emphasising the developer's dual commitment to sustainability and quality living.
GreenRE is a green building certification body formed by Real Estate and Housing Developers Association Malaysia.
Lau shared details of the new project in his speech during a lighting-up ceremony and appreciation dinner to celebrate the completion of Space Residency in Taman Abad, Johor Baru.
The 500 guests who attended included corporate partners and those who had supported and assisted the project until its completion.
'Space Residency is Linbaq Holding's first flagship development,' said Lau.
'We overcame two-and-a-half years of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and bounced back.
'When the project was introduced in 2019, we sold all units before it was even topped off, reflecting the strength of the Johor property market.'
Lau added that the project officially obtained its certificate of completion and compliance in mid-May.
Linbaq Holding deputy chief executive officer Grant Kok Chun Siong said the company had also successfully handed over Phases One and Two of Kaze Hill, a mixed development in Ulu Tiram.
'We will continue to raise the bar and create greater value for our customers and communities,' he added.

Johor reaps success as agri giant

JOHOR BARU: Johor contributed the highest value of agricultural output nationwide, with sales reaching RM27.2bil last year, says a state executive councillor. Johor agriculture, agro-based industry and rural development committee chairman Datuk Zahari Sarip (pic) said the figure was based on the 2024 Agriculture Census presented by the Statistics Department. He said the data was shared during the National Agriculture Exco meeting, which was chaired by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu in Putrajaya recently. 'The meeting served as an important platform to align key policies and proposals to advance the agricultural and agri-food sector across the country,' he said in a statement yesterday. The Buloh Kasap assemblyman said Johor's strong performance reaffirmed its position as a national agriculture powerhouse and a critical contributor to food production and food security in Malaysia. Zahari also said the state government would remain committed to ensuring that the agriculture sector continues to grow. He added that Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has repeatedly stressed the need for continuous efforts to boost the sector as a key part of the state's development plan. 'As part of the Johor Budget 2026, we will focus on empowering the target groups involved, such as farmers, livestock breeders, fishermen and agri-entrepreneurs,' he said. Zahari also said that during the meeting, he had raised the importance of food security within the broader framework of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) development. Zahari said food security was a key focus area under the JS-SEZ initiative, adding that efforts would include promoting high-tech agricultural practices. 'Our goal is to scale up the production of quality and competitive agri-food products by embracing innovation and sustainable methods,' he said. In recognition of Johor's role, Zahari said the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry has approved a special allocation of RM23.4mil for the state. 'The funds will be used to implement 20 programmes and agricultural projects throughout 2025, with the aim of accelerating development and improving farmers' livelihoods. 'The state government is grateful for the support and will ensure the effective and smooth implementation of all initiatives under this collaboration,' he said. Zahari also said that he had called for improvements in disaster assistance management, especially for farmers, breeders and fishermen affected by floods and other natural disasters during the meeting. He said that faster aid delivery would enable them to resume affected projects quickly and safeguard their income sources and output capacity. 'The state government will continue giving its full commitment to elevating the agriculture sector in line with the Maju Johor agenda,' he added.

OCBC sees Johor as trade hub linking ASEAN with China

JOHOR BAHRU: OCBC Group views Johor as a strategic investment and trade hub that connects ASEAN and China, and is ready to expand its role in supporting the growth of various key sectors in the state. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this was conveyed during his recent meeting with the top management of the financial institution, during which they also discussed the potential for broader cooperation in the context of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) development. 'Given the strength of its network in both (ASEAN and China), OCBC is ready to support the growth of key sectors such as logistics, manufacturing, infrastructure, fintech, and digital economy,' he said in a post on his Facebook page today. According to him, OCBC's expertise in cross-border financing, wealth management, and digital transformation makes the institution a highly valuable strategic partner in attracting high-quality investments into Johor. He added that such collaborations could further boost Johor's competitiveness at the regional level and contribute to the development of a sustainable and inclusive economic ecosystem, in line with the state's development agenda that is focused on innovation, talent, and high-value investment. Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz also stated that OCBC's commitment to increasing its workforce in Johor --particularly hiring local graduates with a starting salary of between RM3,200 and RM3,600 -- is aligned with the aspirations behind the establishment of the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC). He said this demonstrates OCBC's seriousness in offering high-value jobs, which will help ensure that the development of the JS-SEZ is supported by competent local talent. JTDC is a strategic initiative aimed at developing local workforce talent in Johor who meet industry needs, ensuring the local talent pool is skilled, competitive, and responsive to market demands. Previously, OCBC Group announced in a statement that it had invested over RM11 billion in various businesses in Johor since early 2024 as part of its commitment to support the development of the JS-SEZ.
