Julia Garner is set to return to the screens with Marvel's upcoming movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The actress, ahead of the big release, has reacted to the backlash she has been receiving for the portrayal of Shalla-Bal in the Pedro Pascal starrer.
Initially, when Garner joined the cast of the MCU film, fans believed that she would be playing the female version of Silver Surfer.
However, when it was revealed that the Inventing Anna star would portray the role of the immortal Empress of Zenn-La and lover of the Silver Surfer/Norrin Radd, the actress was trolled by the fans online.
Julia Garner's reaction to fans calling her out for playing Shalla-Bal
In conversation with the BBC, Julia Garner claimed that she was going to do her job, despite the negativity. The actress explained, 'I'm just going to still do my job, and also it's Shalla-Bal so it's different.'
However, the fans went on to resonate with the character soon enough, as the trailer of the film was dropped, and the trolling immediately died down.
Further in the talks, the movie star shared, 'I was just happy that people are resonating with it, just like any other project. So I'm grateful to be at this dance, to be completely honest with you.'
As for Shalla-Bal, the character was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1968. However, her live-action role had never previously appeared on the screen.
Speaking about her character to Entertainment Weekly, the actress shared, 'I knew who the Silver Surfer was, and I got to know the Silver Surfer more when I signed on to the project. I really dived in.'
She further added, 'I read a lot of the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer comics before starting the project, and I knew that this Fantastic Four was going to be told in a very different way than even the other movies.'
For Fantastic Four, Garner and Pascal are joined by Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be out in theaters on July 25.

Queen Elizabeth II's fashion to go on show in Palace exhibition

London, July 22 (UNI) The Buckingham Palace has planned a major exhibition of the changing fashion of the late Queen Elizabeth next year. There will be about 200 items, including dresses and jewellery, hats and shoes, in what is claimed as the biggest ever display of the late Queen's clothing. The exhibition, featuring items from her childhood through to the decades of her long reign, will coincide with the centenary of her birth. Among the items in Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style will be her wedding dress, made in 1947 by the designer Sir Norman Hartnell, reports BBC. One of the earliest surviving pieces from her wardrobe is a silver lamé and tulle bridesmaid dress, that she wore at the age of eight in 1934 at the wedding of her uncle the Duke of Kent. The late Queen's more everyday clothes will also be on show, including riding jackets, tartan skirts and headscarves. UNI XC SS

Kevin Feige hints at future recasting of Iron Man and Captain America: ‘Hard for anybody to do that'

Kevin Feige recently hinted at future recasting of Iron Man and Captain America, citing Bond and Superman. During a press roundtable at Marvel's headquarters in Burbank, California, for the upcoming Marvel film 'Fantastic Four', Feige addressed that they may, in the future, recast Iron Man and Captain America. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has hinted at the possibility of recasting two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most iconic roles — Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America — in future projects. Speaking about the evolving nature of long-running film franchises, Feige referenced the recent reshuffling in other major cinematic universes as precedent. 'Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond,' Feige said, referring to the new producers of the Bond franchise. 'David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case.' Feige acknowledged the challenge of replacing beloved actors who have defined roles for a generation. 'I think it's hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great [job in a] role. How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?' While the Marvel boss was open about the potential future of Iron Man — originally played by Robert Downey Jr. — and Captain America — played by Chris Evans — he remained vague when asked about the return of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their popular roles from the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). 'I think there is more fun to be had with both of those characters, but we'll see where,' Feige remarked. The comments suggest Marvel may be preparing audiences for a new era of the MCU, one that could eventually include fresh faces in legacy roles as the studio looks to sustain its multi-decade storytelling universe.
