Chappell Roan Challenges Music Exec Who Criticized Her Grammys Speech to Match Her Donation to Struggling Artists

Yahoo07-02-2025
In addition to being Best New Artist, Chappell Roan has already made a name for herself by being as outspoken as she is talented. So it should come as no surprise that she has a response to that viral op-ed think piece that criticized her Grammys acceptance speech.
'Mr. Rabhan, I love how in the article you said, 'Put your money where your mouth is.' Genius! Let's link and build together and see if you can do the same,' the 'Good Luck, Babe!' singer shared on Instagram early Friday morning. She herself offered $25,000 to 'struggling dropped artists.'
Roan's message came two days after The Hollywood Reporter published a guest column from music executive Jeff Rabhan, harshly titled 'Chappell Groan: The Misguided Rhetoric of an Instant Industry Insider.'
In it, Rabhan accused the 26-year-old pop star of being 'far too green and uninformed' to speak on controversial matters such as health care and livable wages for developing musicians. He even wrote that 'her Grammy speech was a hackneyed and plagiarized script of an artist basking in industry love while broadcasting naïveté and taking aim at the very machine that got her there.'
Naturally, the 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess' Grammy winner was not going to let those insults fly after honing her craft for the last decade in order to become an overnight success story.
'Will keep everyone updated on the much awaited response! And I will show the receipts of the donations,' Roan continued. 'In the meantime, here are some artists that deserve more love and a bigger platform.'
She indeed went on to list four up-and-coming singers' Spotify pages in order to pay it forward: Hemlocke Springs, Sarah Kinsley, Devon Again and Baby Storme.
Apart from winning Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards, Roan also performed her hit song 'Pink Pony Club' and was nominated for six awards in total on Sunday.
'Labels, we got you, but do you got us?' she famously concluded her speech. Only time will tell.

Gal Gadot Says Snow White Flopped Because Of Israel

Let's not mince words: Disney's recent live-action remake of Snow White was a bit of a disaster. The reviews weren't great, and the box office performance was worse — grossing $205 million against a budget that hovered between $240 and $270 million. The film performed so badly that Disney reportedly halted production on any more live-action remakes at the time. The reason for why the film didn't do well really depends on who you ask. It is worth noting that there was rumors of "tension" between Snow White stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot during the film's press run, and that Rachel had received backlash for her support of the Palestinian people. Gal — who served in the Israeli Defense Force for two years — recently gave an interview on Israeli TV (via The Wrap) where she commented on Snow White's reception, and why she think the film underperformed. One notable comment: Despite the previous reports of tension, Gal said that she had a good time filming with Rachel. "We laughed, talked, and had fun," she said of her working relationship with her costar. Gal went on to claim that despite her belief that Snow White "would be a huge happening in all kinds of industries and also in Hollywood, is that there's a lot of pressure on celebrities to bring up things against Israel,' seemingly suggesting that pressure to speak against Israel contributed to Snow White's box office performance. 'You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what's happening [in Israel] and what the reality is here, but in the end people decide for themselves,' she added. 'I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office.' OK then!

Billie Eilish Leaps Up The Billboard Charts

Billie Eilish is wrapping the latest leg of her Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour. In August, she only has two dates scheduled in Japan, then several weeks off before she picks back up again in the United States for another venture around the country. Excitement seems to be building among her American fans as Eilish's entire catalog of albums grows in the U.S., and she rises on almost every tally on which she appears. Hit Me Hard and Soft Lives Inside the Top 40 Of course, Hit Me Hard and Soft is her biggest project at the moment. The Grammy-nominated set is her most recent release, and the one that's still being promoted by multiple singles. Hit Me Hard and Soft appears inside the top 40 on every ranking, as it jumps from No. 48 to No. 37 on the Top Album Sales chart. The set can also be found at No. 20 on the Billboard 200, and it almost reconquers the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list as it climbs from No. 3 to the runner-up spot. Hit Me Hard and Soft is a non-mover on the Top Streaming Albums roster, where it sits at No. 18, and it is once again in charge of the Top Alternative Albums ranking. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Happier Than Ever Eilish's first two full-lengths, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Happier Than Ever, live on a trio of tallies — and the same three at that. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? appears in lower spots, but it manages to break back onto the Top Alternative Albums chart, coming in at No. 23. The studio effort that helped introduce Eilish to a massive audience almost fell off both the Billboard 200 and Top Rock & Alternative Albums rankings last week, as it sat at Nos. 199 and 50 in second-to-last and last place just a few days ago. This time around, it leaps to No. 182 on the all-encompassing ranking of the most consumed sets in the country, and it grows by five spots on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster. Happier Than Ever Surges Back into the Top 40 Happier Than Ever also improves its standing, and just like Hit Me Hard and Soft, it finds its way back into the top 40 on one list. On the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, Eilish's sophomore full-length leaps 10 spaces north to No. 38. Over on the Top Alternative Albums ranking, it jumps into the top 20, pushing from No. 24 to No. 18. Happier Than Ever gains quite a bit of ground on the Billboard 200, as last time around it sat only a few spaces ahead of When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? at No. 193. Now it surges almost 40 spaces to make a home at No. 153. Consumption of Billie Eilish's Music is Up – Mostly Luminate reports that both Happier Than Ever and When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? gained in terms of total consumption from one frame to the next. Happier Than Ever moved 10,000 units last week, up 12.5% from the period before. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? managed just under 9,200 equivalent units, a growth of almost 4%. While Hit Me Hard and Soft may be Eilish's top performer, it actually sees its total number of units moved decline by a little more than 3%, though it still managed 23,300 equivalent copies in the U.S. in the most recent tracking period.

Ozzy Osbourne Replaced At No. 1 By One Of The Bestselling Rock Albums Of All Time

Even if Fleetwood Mac's album Rumours disappeared from the charts forever, it would likely always be regarded as one of the bestselling and top-performing releases of all time. Thankfully, the pop-rock classic never fully fades from the Billboard rankings and, in fact, often beats out many new projects from current stars. Rumours is on the rise yet again across a variety of Billboard charts in America, and this week, the Grammy-winning set returns to the summit on multiple lists at the same time. Rumours Returns to No. 1 on Several Charts Last week, Rumours sat at No. 2 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. Now it turns around, and the Fleetwood Mac blockbuster regains control over both of those rosters, which are built around general consumption and focus on only the rock side of the music industry. Only a Few Weeks at No. 1 Rumours has spent the same length of time on both tallies, as it's now up to 440 frames on each list. The set has racked up half a dozen stays at No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums ranking, and just five on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, which is slightly more competitive, as alternative titles are also included. The Essential Ozzy Osbourne Falls from No. 1 Last week, The Essential Ozzy Osbourne commanded both rock rankings, as Americans continued to rediscover Osbourne's work following his death in July. This frame, that compilation of many of his greatest solo smashes dips to third place on the Top Rock Albums ranking and to No. 5 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums list. Rumours Climbs on Almost Every Billboard Chart Rumours rises on three other Billboard charts, as it ascends to No. 8 on the Vinyl Albums list and No. 18 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales roster. The decades-old title, which is nearing its fiftieth birthday, holds at No. 19 on the Top Streaming Albums tally — the only list where it doesn't advance.
