Time of India4 days ago
Pedro Pascal
has become the center of a new viral trend—but this time, it's not all praise. Known for his gentle charisma and internet-friendly persona, Pascal is now the subject of a meme wave that's equal parts admiration and skepticism, sparked by footage of him interacting with co-star
Vanessa Kirby
during press for
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
.
What many initially saw as a comforting gesture—Pascal gently holding Kirby's hand—quickly morphed into something else on social media. On X (formerly Twitter), clips of the moment gained millions of views, transforming Pascal into the face of so-called "
hot girl anxiety

The term plays on Pascal's history of openly discussing his anxiety and how he uses physical touch to ground himself. In 2023, he told The Last of Us co-star Bella Ramsey that placing a hand on his chest or staying close to someone helps him manage anxiety in high-stress settings.

But online sentiment shifted. What began as wholesome praise turned into meme fodder, with users questioning why Pascal's anxious behavior seemed to surface primarily around female co-stars. While some continued to celebrate his vulnerability, others began scrutinizing his actions, suggesting they might be performative or selectively applied.
Live Events
Debate intensified, with some comments delving into more serious territory—raising concerns about personal boundaries and the implications of his gestures, regardless of intent or sexual orientation.

Adding clarity, Vanessa Kirby spoke out during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, saying, 'He does have anxiety, and he's been open about it… But the way he holds your hand or anchors you? That's him being protective, not anxious.'
Memes
Commenting on the issue, one X user wrote, "When you know there's something weird about Pedro Pascal but you can't prove it."
A Pascal fan backed him saying, "Nobody had an issue when Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson were making out on their press tour but Pedro Pascal is getting crucified for being affectionate to his co-star. Mind you, we don't even know Pedro's sexuality nor should we but women are comfortable around him."

Pascal's online appeal has long been tied to his reputation as a respectful, emotionally intelligent figure. From Game of Thrones to The Last of Us, his candid interviews and genuine demeanor have endeared him to fans. Yet, as internet culture often goes, adoration can quickly pivot to criticism. The rise of the "hot girl anxiety" meme may hint at a turning point in how audiences view Pascal—still beloved, but under closer scrutiny. Whether this shift is significant or just another moment in the internet's endless celebrity cycle remains to be seen.

‘Salman Khan was holding my throat with a real knife,' recalls Ashok Saraf as he opens up on a terrifying incident on the sets of ‘Jaagruti', says, 'Aise aadmi kisi ko yaad nahi rehte'

Veteran actor Ashok Saraf, fondly remembered for his impeccable comic timing and for the iconic television show 'Hum Paanch' amidst many movies has also done a negative role in his career, This was for the 1992 Salman Khan starrer Jaagruti. But what was meant to be just another scene turned into a terrifying real-life incident, one that Saraf says he will never forget. 'Jaagruti' starred Karisma Kapoor opposite Salman. In a chat with Radio Nasha Official, Saraf opened up about a near-fatal moment while shooting a tense scene. The actor revealed that while filming, a real knife was used, and things went awry when Salman Khan gripped his throat a bit too hard. 'He was holding my throat with a knife and it was a real knife. Uski jo nok hoti hai vo kaat ke gayi aise… As soon as we started saying the dialogues, I tried to escape from his hands. Salman zor se daba rahe the and then I said, 'Dheere se dabaao, katt raha hai yahan par,'' Saraf recalled. Despite the warning, the shoot continued. Saraf tried to suggest a safer way to hold the knife, but the camera angle didn't permit a change. 'He then asked me what he should do, maine bola ulta pakdo na. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo He said that the camera is facing towards us, dikh jaayega usme, then maine socha chhorro.' Saraf added that he's unsure whether Salman even remembers the incident, quipping, 'Aise aadmi kisi ko yaad nahi rehte, bhool jaate hain.' Jaagruti, also starred Shiva Rindani, Pankaj Dheer, and Prem Chopra apart from Salman and Karisma. Despite the scare, he continued working with Salman in several hits like 'Karan Arjun', 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya', and 'Bandhan.'

'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' turns 2: Karan Johar on Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi's kiss in the film: Might make a love story on them— Exclusive!

Two years have passed since Karan Johar 's vibrant and heartfelt directorial comeback 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' hit the screens, yet for the filmmaker, it still feels like it happened just yesterday. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, Karan opened up about what the film means to him, the towering talent he collaborated with, and what lies ahead. 'This is one film I am very proud of' 'It seems like just yesterday! I must say this is one film I am very proud of,' says Karan, reflecting on the milestone anniversary of 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', which completes two years on July 28. On par with 'My Name Is Khan' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' When asked if the film ranks alongside his other celebrated works, Karan responds with unmistakable pride. 'It is right up there with 'My Name Is Khan' and of course my first directorial 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', which remains special as it brought a smile to my father (the eminent producer Yash Johar)'s face. Our production house was suffering huge deficits when I made 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. It brought a huge financial respite to my dad.' Dharmendra reacts to his kissing scene with Shabana Azmi in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' Gratitude for the ensemble cast Karan, known for his keen eye for both drama and grandeur, holds 'Rocky Aur Rani…' close to his heart — not just for its sweeping romance and colourful storytelling, but for the actors he got to work with. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cimanggis: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo 'I look back with immense gratitude at the experience of getting to work with those tremendous actors. Ranveer and Alia, of course. But more importantly, I got to work with the great Shabana Azmiji and Dharamji and that phenomenal actor from Bengal, Tota Roy Choudhary, for the first time. That is a career high for me. As for Jayaji (Bachchan), I have had the rare privilege of working with her on several occasions. She agreed to play a character with grey shades in 'Rocky Aur Rani…' And she pulled it off swimmingly.' 'That kiss deserves its own film' The film, known as much for its bold emotional choices as its flamboyant tone, also made headlines for the surprising and tender kiss between Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi — a moment that sparked wide conversation. Karan laughs, acknowledging the unexpected buzz: 'There is a separate love story there. I may one day make a film on their love story in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'.'

Murray Bartlett on ‘Murder at the Patel Motel': ‘It is a double-edged sword'

Murray Bartlett, who won our hearts as Armond in The White Lotus, and as Frank in The Last of Us, plays Gareth in Maulik Pancholy's comedy podcast, Murder at the Patel Motel. He also appears as the disgraced puppeteer, Brian, in Season Two of Nine Perfect Strangers. 'They're similar, in a way,' says Murray over a video call from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA. 'Both have a mystery at the centre of it. The difference with Nine Perfect Strangers is we got to be in amazing locations in Germany and Austria, with a wonderful cast of people that I got to work with in person.' Past traumas Both characters, the 54-year-old actor said, are dealing with trauma from the past that holds them back. 'They both have to be backed into a corner before they reveal themselves. It is not easy for them to face or talk about it or be vulnerable around.' The absence of visuals is both liberating and challenging, according to Murray. 'It feels uncomplicated to have one sense to hone in and focus on. There are fewer distractions. It gives you a strong focal point. It's an interesting process where you've only got the audio so you become ultra aware of how you can play with that in interesting ways to tell the story.' With a look There are some scenes, Murray says, which you wish you could just do with a look. 'You have to find a way to do it with sound. It's a double-edged sword, it is a challenge, but it also makes you creative. There's something thrilling about that.' Voicing a character in an audio-only format calls for a similar approach to his work in television or film, Murray says. 'There are certain subtleties that you can do visually without saying things that you can't use in audio. You have to make sure you're getting the character and the story across effectively through audio.' Rich world The world of audio is so rich these days with podcasts and audiobooks, Murray says. 'It's an exciting genre to step into. We are now used to listening to content in the way that we used to listen to radio plays. I was familiar with the genre and how you can bring subtlety into audio in a way that you might when working on film and television visually. Murder at the Patel Motel is comedy, so you can be a little broader, and play with sound in a comedic way.' Having known Maulik for a long time, Murray immediately said yes to playing Gareth, Maulik's character, Milan's, partner. 'I love the idea of this small town in Montana where there's this Indian American family, and the kind of world that surrounds them. Maulik told me about this network of Indian American families who run motels around the Midwest of America, which I was unaware of.' Grounded in reality Comedy is challenging as it should be grounded in reality, Murray comments. 'You don't want it to be totally untethered. This show has a definite reality to it, and there are some poignant moments. As an actor, you want to have fun with the comedy, while making sure that these feel like actual characters, with moments of reflection, poignancy and connection.' Murray says the cast did different takes and versions of certain scenes. 'When they were editing, they had some choices to get that balance of comedy, drama and mystery right.' Occasional improvisations While the cast mostly stuck to the script, Murray says there was improvisation too. 'With audio work, you don't work with the other actors. I was lucky, because Maulik was leading this project and was in all the recording sessions. We were reading the scenes together in real time. He encouraged improvisation when it felt right. We did the scenes as scripted, but then would do takes where we play around.' There are scenes where it made sense to improvise, Murray says. 'With 10 episodes, the recording sessions were long, and once you start to settle into the character, you get a sense of what else you might be able to offer as the character. Maulik was collaborative and encouraged us to stay with the script to make sure that we were telling the story properly, but also to inhabit our characters and play with it.' Close to home The podcast touches on themes of identity, family and returning home, all of which resonated with Murray. 'No matter where a story is culturally, environmentally, or geographically, there are universal things about family that we can all relate to — complex, unsettling, challenging, and funny things.' Murray was intrigued with the 'wonderful specifics' about Indian American families that he got to learn through the podcast. 'A lot of us, particularly in the arts, who grew up in small towns, have the same experience that Milan has. We tend to be the black sheep of the family. I went halfway around the world to pursue the work that I love.' Highlights the contrast When you return home, Murray says, there are all these wonderful, difficult and comic things that happen. 'The dynamics highlight the contrast you feel between the person you've become and the 17-year-old you were when you may have left,' Murray says laughing. Hoping that listeners to Murder at the Patel Motel laugh a lot, Murray says, 'There are some beautiful things about being disconnected from family and the complexity of trying to reconnect. A lot of the characters have secrets or parts of themselves that they're not in touch with, or hiding. And through the course of the show, secrets come out and the characters have to look at and face who they are.' If Gareth had a secret hobby, Murray says he would probably fancy himself a popstar. 'I would imagine when nobody's home, he would get out the karaoke machine and sing in the mirror,' he says laughing Murray's favourite scene in the podcast was when his finger gets partially cut off by an axe. 'It was fun to be able to scream and let loose,' he says, laughing uproariously. Murder at the Patel Motel is available on Audible
