Vijay Sethupathi, Nithya Menen's Thalaivan Thalaivii To Release On THIS OTT Platform?
The story blends themes of love, familial bonding and comedy, offering an emotionally rich and entertaining experience.
Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen's latest romantic comedy-drama Thalaivan Thalaivii has been winning hearts. The film was released in theatres on July 25, 2025. Now, reports suggest that the film's OTT streaming rights have been acquired by Amazon Prime Video. The film is directed by Pandiraj, known for Etharkkum Thunindhavan.
The Times Of India has quoted the latest reports mentioning that a major streaming platform has bought the rights of the film. It will release on Amazon Prime Video. However, neither the makers nor streaming platform has confirmed the news.
The story blends themes of love, familial bonding and comedy, offering an emotionally rich and entertaining experience. Audiences have already begun responding positively, with social media flooded with praise for the film's feel-good narrative, relatable characters and warm performances. The film also features comedian Yogi Babu in a special role and the music by Santhosh Narayanan has been widely appreciated for adding emotional depth and charm to the storyline.
Although the film was initially announced to have a Telugu version titled Sir Madam, its release status remains unclear. While the Tamil version opened in theatres as planned, tickets for Sir Madam are yet to be listed in Telugu-speaking regions. So far, there has been no official confirmation from the makers about whether the Telugu version will see a delayed theatrical release or skip theatres in favour of a direct OTT premiere. Industry insiders speculate that the team may have chosen to avoid a box-office clash with the big-budget Telugu film Hari Hara Veera Mallu.
Vijay Sethupathi has an exciting lineup of films beyond Thalaivan Thalaivii. Up next is Gandhi Talks, an experimental silent comedy-drama written and directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar. The film co-stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Arvind Swamy, Mahesh Manjrekar and others and has already made history as the first Indian silent film to be screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Nithya Menen will next be seen in Idly Kadai, a Tamil-language drama directed and co-produced by Dhanush under his home banner, Wunderbar Films, in association with Dawn Pictures. The film pairs Nithya with Dhanush in the lead and features a strong ensemble cast including Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, Parthiban, P. Samuthirakani and Rajkiran.

Wells' iconic The War of the Worlds has crash-landed on streaming—but not quite in the way fans expected. Released by Universal Pictures on July 30, 2025, the film stars Ice Cube and Eva Longoria, and is directed by Rich Lee. Interestingly, this sci-fi thriller had wrapped up filming five years ago, only to be quietly dropped on Amazon Prime Video with no prior buzz or latest retelling follows government officer Will Radford, who is on the hunt for a rogue hacker when Earth is suddenly invaded by mysterious alien machines. These extraterrestrials aren't after humans—they're feeding on data, growing stronger by targeting data centers. The hacker, shockingly, turns out to be Radford's estranged son, who reveals that a secret government system may have lured the aliens to Earth in the first place. Father and son must race against time to shut it down and save the film's reception, however, has been nothing short of brutal. With a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it has joined the ranks of the platform's most poorly reviewed films. Variety slammed it as 'disastrous,' while The Telegraph gave it a single star, calling it 'silly' and 'shoddy.'The backlash is especially sharp when compared to earlier adaptations of Wells' classic. The 1953 film, directed by Byron Haskin, remains a beloved sci-fi staple with an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 7/10 rating on IMDb. Steven Spielberg's 2005 version, starring Tom Cruise, was also well-received, earning a 76% Rotten Tomatoes rating and 6.6/10 on film, the story found success in other formats too. Only 45 films have a zero score on the reviews aggregator site and War of the Worlds is one of two 2025 films to make the cut. The other one is Alarum. Empire magazine stated, "A risible attempt to modernise classic science-fiction by adding WhatsApp and political chicanery. This thin, frenetic, soulless adaptation is misguided moviemaking cubed."The critic at UK's Daily Telegraph wrote, "It is silly, shoddy and features far too much of rapper-turned-leading man Ice Cube staring at a computer screen while looking as if he's working through a reasonably urgent digestive ailment." Variety's critic added, "It's not entirely clear what to make of Ice Cube in a job like this. The rapper has two expressions: a resting scowl and nuclear overreaction, neither of which suggest the sort of individual the government would trust with the technology to eavesdrop on anyone he sees fit."

Fuji Singer KWAM 1 Placed on No-Fly List After Airport Drama Unfolds
Last Updated: The drama unfolded during boarding for a flight to Lagos on Tuesday when aviation security personnel asked KWAM 1 to hand over a flask, suspecting it contained alcohol Popular Nigerian fuji singer King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as KWAM 1, has been placed on the country's no-fly list following a dramatic confrontation at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The directive, issued by Nigerian Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, comes after KWAM 1 allegedly blocked a ValueJet aircraft from taxiing on the tarmac. The drama unfolded during boarding for a flight to Lagos on Tuesday when aviation security personnel asked KWAM 1 to hand over a flask, suspecting it contained alcohol. The singer reportedly refused and allegedly spilled the contents—later confirmed as alcohol—on one of the officers. He was subsequently deboarded. Video footage circulating on social media, including one shared by Keyamo, shows KWAM 1 attempting to physically obstruct the aircraft as it began to move. The singer had to crouch to avoid being struck by the plane's wing. In a social media post on X Thursday, Keyamo confirmed that the singer stood in front of the aircraft on the tarmac, blocking its taxiing, after being denied boarding. Keyamo condemned the entire episode as 'a case of temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides," and likened KWAM 1's behaviour to a hostage situation. 'From all the details so far received, my preliminary impression is that it was obviously a case of temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides which could have led to serious fatalities," the Nigerian minister noted. Keyamo further emphasised that whether the flask contained water or alcohol was irrelevant compared to the seriousness of blocking an aircraft. 'It is the physical blockage of the aircraft from taxiing that is the reprehensible conduct here which akin to a hostage situation," he added. Following the incident, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority also suspended the licences of both the captain and pilot involved. KWAM 1 is an iconic figure in southwest Nigeria, renowned for his traditional fuji music—a genre rooted in the Yoruba community. He is also a close affiliate of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, having performed at numerous party rallies and the presidential inaugural ball in May 2023.
