No place to sit for Ashwini Choubey at Bihar BJP meet & the Chandigarh dinner that's sending ripples

The Print6 hours ago
Choubey, the former Union minister who was left out of Modi 3.0, left many party colleagues stunned last May when, on the first death anniversary of the late Sushil Modi, he said the former deputy CM 'died early due to ill-treatment by a senior party leader'.
Senior BJP leader and former Buxar MP Ashwini Kumar Choubey is going through tough times. At the party's state working committee meeting in Patna last week, he walked up to the stage but left after he did not find a place to sit, it is learnt. The meeting, convened to chalk out a strategy for the Bihar polls, was opened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Akhilesh & Jayant no longer friends?
On 1 July, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav received birthday wishes from leaders across party lines, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, Apna Dal (Soneylal) chief Anupriya Patel, and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) president O.P. Rajbhar.
However, conspicuously absent from the list of names was Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary, once a close friend of Akhilesh.
The two fell out after Jayant, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha, walked out of INDIA bloc and joined hands with the BJP, for which he was rewarded with a berth in PM Modi's Council of Ministers.
Akhilesh, SP insiders say, feels betrayed by Jayant. The two have even stopped communicating with each other these past few months. The unease also extended to SP ally Pallavi Patel of Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) who wished Akhilesh a happy birthday, but did not receive a response on 'X'. In contrast, her sister and Union Minister Anupriya Patel, despite being an NDA ally, received an official 'thank you' from the SP handle.
Dinner party sets off speculation
A dinner hosted by Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh at his daughter Arti Rao's official residence in Chandigarh recently has set political circles abuzz in Haryana. The gathering was attended by 12 MLAs, including 11 from the BJP and one from the Congress. They were mostly from the Ahirwal region.
The Congress MLA was Manju Chaudhary from Nangal Chaudhry, who defeated former minister Abhe Singh Yadav, a close aide of former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in the 2024 Assembly elections. Chaudhary had publicly claimed Rao's support during her campaign, as she did in 2019, adding intrigue to her presence.
As the news of the dinner became public, some of these MLAs, including Sunil Sangwan, Mukesh Sharma, Krishan Kumar and Om Prakash Yadav, promptly paid a visit to CM Nayab Singh Saini's residence in Chandigarh. Rao later said his daughter had been allotted an official residence in Chandigarh and he invited people close to him for a dinner to mark the occasion. Rao, whose chief ministerial ambitions remains unfulfilled to this day, has been frequently taking jibes at Khattar, who is now a Union minister, and his successor Saini.

Beijing fumes at presence of Union Minister Rijiju, Arunachal CM Khandu at Dalai Lama's birthday celebrations

New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) China today fumed at the presence of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu at the birthday festivities of the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, and protested against remarks made by some of them regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. The Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong, in a statement posted on his X handle, said the issue of the reincarnation and succession of the Dalai Lama 'is inherently an internal affair of China'. 'It has been noted that some Indian official recently made some remarks regarding the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. 'Chinese government opposes any attempts by overseas organizations or individuals to interfere in or dictate the reincarnation process. 'Xizang is an inalienable part of China's territory. Tibetan Buddhism traces its origins to China's Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.' 'The primary regions where Tibetan Buddhism is practiced are within China. The lineage of the Dalai Lamas took shape and evolved within China's Tibet region. 'The conferment of their religious status and titles is the prerogative of the central government of China. 'The reincarnation and succession of the Dalai Lama is inherently an internal affair of China. The Chinese government upholds the principle of independence and self-governance in religious affairs and administers the reincarnation of Living Buddhas, including that of the Dalai Lama, in accordance with the law. 'No interference by any external forces will be allowed.' Earlier this week, China had protested against Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju's remarks that the decision on the incarnation of the Dalai Lama would be taken by the established institution and the leader of Tibetan Buddhists himself and no one else. Days ahead of his 90th birthday, the Dalai Lama had announced that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue. Rijiju, in posts on X today, after attending the 90th birthday celebrations of the Dalai Lama, said: 'I feel privileged to attend 90th birth anniversary celebrations of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. It feels like a deeply personal journey of reverence and gratitude.' '90th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh - a deeply spiritual gathering graced by His Holiness, along with Head Lamas of all Tibetan Buddhist & Bon traditions.' BJP state chief accused of ‘grabbing' minority college; party denies charge

Patna: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor and the family members of Sardar Moleswar Singh, the founder of Mata Gujri Medical (MGM) College in Kishanganj, on Sunday held a press conference at the party office here. They alleged that the BJP state president Dilip Kumar Jaiswal has taken control of the MGM, a minority Sikh college, "through illegal, unlawful means and irregularities at every level". Kishor, the architect of Jan Suraj, further alleged that Jaiswal has taken control of the MGM College, where he once worked as a clerk, using various tactics over the past 25 years. "Through Kartar Singh, the son of the college's founder Sardar Moleswar Singh, he first ousted another family trustee, Gurudayal Singh, from the trust, and then pressured Kartar to leave Kishanganj," Kishor alleged. Demanding resignation of Jaiswal as the BJP chief, Kishor said the rightful ownership of the college should be given to the family of the true owner, Sardar Moleswar Singh, and considering the seriousness of the matter, BJP's state president should immediately resign from his position. He said BJP's top leader, PM Narendra Modi, should respond to this entire issue. "On one hand, BJP leaders talk about conduct and character, while on the other hand, their state president has taken control of a minority college," Kishor said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Addressing the press conference, Sardar Moleswar Singh's son, Gurudayal Singh, and daughter, Amrit Kaur, alleged that Jaiswal first deceived our father and then tricked us out of the trust. "We have been fighting this battle for many years, but no one supported us. However, Kishor has now raised the entire issue and assured us that he is with us in this fight," they said, adding, "This matter should be investigated by the CBI and ED. " Reacting over the allegations, BJP media in charge Danish Eqbal, in a written statement, said: "The allegations made by Kishor against Jaiswal are completely baseless, unfounded, and malicious. There is absolutely no truth in these accusations. It appears to be a deliberate conspiracy aimed solely at tarnishing the personal image and reputation of Jaiswal." "In the coming days, Jaiswal will address these allegations in detail through a press conference, where facts and evidence will be presented before the public. While political differences may exist, it is highly inappropriate to malign someone's credibility without any basis or proof," the BJP functionary said.
