The Delhi High Court on Thursday stayed the release of the film Udaipur Files : Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder until the Union Government reviews a revision application filed against the movie's certification. The stay order comes after the petitioner, Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind , approached the Court seeking reconsideration of the Central Board of Film Certification 's (CBFC) approval of the film. The petitioner had argued that the content of the film could disturb communal harmony and urged for the certificate to be withdrawn.'The petitioner has been relegated to pursue the revisional remedy. Until the plea for interim relief is decided, the release must remain on hold,' the Court stated in its order.Udaipur Files, which is based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan's Udaipur allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous, was scheduled to release in theatres on July 11. The film has drawn public attention due to the sensitive nature of the incident it depicts. The assailants had later released a video claiming the murder was in reaction to the tailor allegedly sharing a social media post in support of former BJP leader Nupur Sharma after her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed. The case was probed by the National Investigation Agency and the accused were booked under stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act ( UAPA ), besides provisions under the Indian Penal Code. The trial is pending before the special NIA court in Jaipur. The High Court's direction means the release will now depend on the Centre's decision on the revision application filed under the Cinematograph Act . The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is expected to examine the matter. No new release date has been announced.

HC issues notices against illegal pubs, restaurants
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday questioned the police about the action taken against the bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants in the city that are allegedly operating illegally and serving liquor without a proper licence. The court issued notices to the Delhi government and the city police, asking them to file responses containing details of such bars, pubs, and restaurants. 'The affidavit by the respondents should also contain the details of action taken in case the bars, pubs and restaurants mentioned in the petition are found violating the provisions of law,' the court said while listing the matter for hearing next on August 27. Petitioner Mahtab Khan has claimed that bars, restaurants, clubs and pubs in the city are operating illegally, without the L-16 licence and pointed out that these establishments are prohibited from operating and selling alcohol after 1 a.m. without possessing the licence. The plea states that these establishments are located in areas where fire tenders cannot reach in case of an accident, as some of them do not have an appropriate approach to the road. The petitioner's counsel submitted that despite highlighting the illegality through a representation, the authorities have failed to take any action and stop these establishments from operating after the permitted time limit.

Land-for-jobs case: Supreme Court refuses to defer Lalu Prasad's trial
The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea filed by RJD president Lalu Prasad seeking deferment of trial court proceedings in the land-for-jobs case against him. Lalu moved the SC seeking directions to the trial court to adjourn proceedings till the Delhi High Court concludes hearing his petition to quash the case. Refusing to put brakes on the proceedings in the lower court, a division bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh clarified that the trial court's framing of charges in the case would not render Lalu's quashing petition in the HC infructuous. "We are not passing any order. Taking note of the apprehension, we say framing of charges will not make the pending petition before the HC infructuous," the bench said. Refusing to put brakes on the trial, a division bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh on July 18 had said it would ask the Delhi HC to decide Lalu's plea that seeks quashing of the CBI case. The apex court then asked the high court to decide Lalu's plea expeditiously. Live Events ET had reported earlier this month that Lalu had moved an application in the trial court seeking to summon old records of the land-for-jobs case investigated by the CBI. The CBI has already concluded its arguments on framing of charges against Lalu, his kin and other co-accused.
