Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans splits from fiancée weeks after proposing

The opera singer hinted that his relationship with business owner Liz Brookes was "not healthy"
Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans has revealed he's parted ways with his fiancée Liz Brookes, just weeks after popping the question during a romantic Moroccan getaway.

The Welsh opera singer hinted at an "unhealthy" relationship in a Facebook Live broadcast on Saturday, August 2, and confessed he's already dipping his toes back into the dating pool.

Rumours of the couple's split started circulating last month when eagle-eyed fans spotted that Wynne had removed his engagement announcement from Instagram and stopped following Liz on social media.

It now seems their romance has come to a definitive end. Insiders confided to the Daily Mail that the split was triggered by Wynne's hectic schedule since he decided to launch his own restaurant in his hometown of Carmarthen, whilst also kicking off his own radio show, set to be based in the eatery, reports the Mirror.
The source disclosed: "Wynne and Liz called off their engagement a few weeks ago. The strain of his new business ventures led to a major disagreement.

"Initially, there was hope they would reconcile once the bad feelings subsided, as they had broken up before and managed to mend things.
"But with Wynne actively seeking new dates and publicly labelling the relationship as 'not healthy', it's safe to say they've permanently split this time."
The Mirror has reached out to Wynne Evans' representatives for a statement.

Liz, who operates a thriving events business in Wales, initially encountered Wynne in 2024 when he entertained guests at one of her company's corporate gatherings.
She became a familiar face in the audience throughout his Strictly journey, frequently supporting him from the sidelines and posting encouraging messages across social media platforms.

Wynne had previously credited Liz with motivating his fitness regime ahead of his BBC appearance, telling a podcast presenter: "I go out running with my girlfriend and stuff and I feel much better for it".
Wynne popped the question to Liz in June, documenting the special moment on Instagram with a collection of photographs, including a detailed shot of her engagement ring.
He wrote alongside the post: "Big news... I got engaged! This weekend in Morocco, somewhere between the couscous, the camels, and me limping around the souks like a man with no spatial awareness, I proposed to Liz - and she said yes! (No take-backs, I've checked.)".

"She's clever, she's kind, she's got excellent taste in men. Absolutely no idea how I pulled that off, but here we are! Feeling very lucky, very happy, and just a tiny bit smug."
The pair's split arrives during a challenging year for the Go Compare star, who was axed by the BBC earlier this year following a contentious "spit roast" remark during the Strictly live tour.

While Wynne subsequently clarified the phrase related to fellow contestant Jamie Borthwick rather than presenter Janette Manrara as initially reported, he maintained he was compelled to issue an apology and has since severed ties with BBC Radio Wales.
He has subsequently launched his own internet radio programme and established a wine bar and eatery called Welsh House by Wynne, which he pledged would feature MasterChef -style dishes on the menu as a tribute to his stint on the cookery programme.

Magda Szubanski breaks down in tears in moving acceptance speech as she is inducted into the 2025 Logies Hall of Fame

Magda Szubanski broke down on Sunday night as she gave an emotional acceptance speech via video call during her 2025 Logies Hall of Fame induction. The comedian, 64, was unable to attend the event in person because she is immunocompromised as she undergoes treatment for stage 4 cancer. But that didn't stop the Kath and Kim star from bringing the audience to tears with laughter and sadness as she graciously accepted the honour. 'I am so sorry I cannot be there. I do have a good excuse this time, normally I don't come because I can't be bothered getting out of my pyjamas,' she said. 'This time there really is a reason. I want to say first of all, let's get this out of the way, I have not been awarded this honour because I have the cancer.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I am getting this because of 40 years of hard work. Lobbying, bribing, threatening, whatever it took. Finally it has all paid off,' she joked. Magda then struggled to contain her emotions as she thanked her friends, fans, and supporters. 'The love and support that I have felt, like a tsunami, from the Australian public, it has been overwhelming and I have to tell you, it really helps,' she began. 'I did not think I was going to cry,' she then added as she teared up. 'When I go online and look at those messages, every time, my heart lifts. And I feel that much stronger to deal with the cancer. 'So thank you for the love that you are pouring my way, I really feel it.' A wave of A-list stars stepped out to help induct Magda into the Hall of Fame on Sunday night. Today Extra co-host David Campbell introduced the segment, with Magda being the godmother to his daughter Betty, seven. Stars who shared their tributes included big names like Hamish Blake, Dannii Minogue, Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, and Poh Ling Yeow. The Irwins, Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, and Kathy Lette were also among many others who shared kind words for the Australian star. Marg Downey accepted the award on her behalf. Magda is the fifth woman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since it was introduced in 1984. She has joined the likes of Ruth Cracknell, Noni Hazlehurst, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and Rebecca Gibney. Two months ago, Magda revealed she had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She appeared on camera with a shaved head to reveal the shocking news after beginning her treatment for cancer. 'Hello, my lovelies. So, the head is shaved in anticipation of it all falling out in a couple of weeks because I have just been diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive, very serious lymphoma,' she said. Magda also revealed she has started treatment in Melbourne called the Nordic protocol, which treats mantle cell lymphoma by shrinking the tumours with a combination of drugs administered in five phases. It's known as the Nordic regimen based on its clinical trial sites in Denmark and Norway. The actress explained she will be 'lying very low' due to her weak immune system.

EastEnders' Lorraine Stanley used weight loss jabs to lose 6.5st but changed her mind

Lorraine Stanley, who played Karen Taylor in EastEnders, has opened up about her 6.5st weight loss EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley has become almost unrecognisable from her character Karen Taylor, the endearing yet perpetually scruffy mum she portrayed on the BBC soap from 2017 to 2024. ‌ The 49-year-old actress has shed an impressive six and a half stone over two years and next month will walk down the aisle after a two-year engagement to her fiancé Mark Perez, with whom she shares daughter, Nancy, nine. ‌ But transforming her body hasn't all been plain sailing. As well as expressing her excitement about her upcoming wedding, Lorraine has revealed the secrets behind her remarkable weight loss, which was aided by jabs. ‌ "I'm 50 next year and I'm feeling great," Lorraine told the Mirror. "I looked 20 years older when I was bigger. I certainly felt it anyway... I've lost 6½st. I weigh 8st now. "If you look at my little wrists and ankles, this is the weight I should have been. I should be a thin person. And I always was, until I hit my late twenties. ‌ "I'm not going to lie, nor am I promoting it, but I had weight-loss surgery two years ago. I had a gastric sleeve. I went to Harley Street. I didn't go to a clinic in Turkey or anything. "In saying that, I've had friends who've gone to Turkey and had great experiences, but I didn't trust that process. So, yeah, I went to a London clinic, paid an awful lot of money and had it done. "It's hands-down the best thing I've ever done – both for me and for my family." ‌ Lorraine said she was "missing out on so much" due to her size. She "so big" that she couldn't chase her daughter up the road or play football with her outside, until the weight loss surgery "changed everything". Lorraine said the "lightbulb moment" was when she was watching an episode of EastEnders she was in and she could "barely look at herself". ‌ "The person on screen was unrecognisable to me," she said, before explaining her experience with weight-loss injections. "I'd tried Wegovy before opting for surgery," the soap star admitted. "I have friends on different weight-loss jabs and they work for them. I'm not against them, but for whatever reason I feel like I got immune to them. "It got to the point where I was injecting myself and eating at the same time. I was thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?' So I decided that was it, time to get this surgery booked." ‌ Lorraine said she is "healthier, fitter, and [surgery has] changed her mindset for the better". "It has been hard, though," she noted. "You've got to work at your portions. You don't want to overeat as you can stretch the gastric band. And you don't want to do that as you've paid good money for it. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. "But for me – and this is totally personal – it's the best thing I could have done." On a potential return to EastEnders, she added: "Maybe – they didn't kill me off. But right now, I wouldn't. I'm enjoying Nancy. On EastEnders, I missed a lot of milestones. Now I'm like her personal taxi driver... I've gone for a few auditions. I haven't got anything yet, but I will. And if I don't, I don't mind that either. I'm so happy being a mum."

BBC to investigate cocaine use by Strictly Come Dancing stars

Reports suggest the Strictly stars' drug use was discussed on the BBC dancing show, according to The Sun, and law firm Pinsent Masons has been appointed to lead the investigation. The Strictly cast members involved in the investigation have not been named by the news outlet. Tomorrow's front page: Strictly cocaine probe - BBC's law firm inquiry into two stars READ MORE: According to reports, the allegations were made in a legal submission by law firm Russells in March on behalf of former contestant Wynne Evans, who was dropped by the BBC after using 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly tour. Others have also reported drug use on the show, according to The Sun. A BBC spokesperson said: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' This latest investigation comes after the BBC launched a review into Strictly in 2024, centred around allegations of bullying and harassment against former professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, made by his former dance partner Amanda Abbington. This included the introduction of a chaperone who is present 'at all times' during training room rehearsals. EastEnders star James Borthwick was also suspended from the BBC after a video emerged of the actor using a disabled slur on the set of the dance programme.
