Report is lodged against Principal

Published on: Tuesday, August 12, 2025 Published on: Tue, Aug 12, 2025 By: Ahmad Apong Text Size: SIPITANG: A police report has been lodged against the Principal of SMK Agama Tun Mustapha, Kinarut, following allegations of obstruction to the investigation into the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir and failure to comply with mandatory reporting procedures. Sipitang District Police Chief Supt Awang Suanda confirmed that they received the report by lawyer Jeffriden Baudi (pic) amid mounting public pressure for accountability in the case. Advertisement The report, lodged at the Sipitang police station, alleges that the Principal not only treated the student's death as a minor incident but failed to comply with the Ministry of Education's circulars requiring immediate reports to authorities and the Ministry in cases of serious injury or death at schools. Jeffriden raised additional concerns about the absence of a post-mortem examination before Zara's burial, despite the case involving an unnatural death on school premises. 'This situation raises concerns about potential attempts to eliminate crucial evidence that could reveal the true cause of death,' he said. He said if proven guilty under Section 201 of the Penal Code, offenders face imprisonment of up to seven years and fines. The public is urging police and the Attorney General's Chambers to ensure all parties involved in obstructing the investigation face trial without compromise, with hopes that authorities will take decisive action in response to the growing public outcry. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
