UNC basketball won't pursue talented shooting guard UNC is out on this transfer portal shooting guard
The North Carolina Tar Heels are still seeking a few additions to their 2025-26 basketball roster as the offseason continues on. UNC does have to fill some production with the departures of Elliot Cadeau, RJ Davis, Ian Jackson, Drake Powell, and Jae'Lyn Withers.
While they have added a few key pieces, the search continues on. However, they will not be pursuing one guard who is available in the portal.
After news broke that Florida has ended its pursuit of USC guard Desmond Claude, many felt like the Tar Heels were an easy connection. But that didn't last long as Joe Tipton of On3 put that rumor to rest stating that UNC is not involved for Claude.
The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 15.8 points per game last season for the Trojans and is one of the top guards in the transfer portal. He would fill a need for UNC despite the program already bringing in a few guards.
However, with Tipton's news it does signal that either his NIL price is too high or the Tar Heels are just not interested as it is in Claude.

Kate Martin shines again in Valkyries blowout win

After scoring just seven points during her 14 minutes of action in the Golden State Valkyries' (3-5) loss to the Phoenix Mercury (6-4) on Thursday, former Iowa women's basketball star guard Kate Martin once again put on an impressive performance in the team's Sunday night 95-68 blowout win against the Las Vegas Aces (4-3) from Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif. The former Hawkeye played a season-high 26 minutes of action off the bench for Golden State, where she recorded 12 points on 5-of-11 from the field and 2-of-7 from 3-point territory, while picking up seven rebounds and one assist. Through efficient shooting and superior defensive efforts against the Aces, Martin was able to close out her night with the team's second-best +/- rating with +30. Martin's next opportunity to showcase her offensive skillset will be on Monday, June 9, when the team travels to Arena in Los Angeles, Calif., for a 9 p.m. CT matchup vs. the Los Angeles Sparks (3-6). The game will be a part of the WNBA Commissioner's Cup slate and be available on WNBA League Pass (free preview). Advertisement We occasionally recommend interesting products and services. Former USC guard Desmond Claude commits to Washington

Former USC guard Desmond Claude commits to Washington Back in April, USC men's basketball star guard Desmond Claude made headlines when he surprisingly entered the transfer portal. On Sunday, Claude found a new home: He is headed to the Pacific Northwest to join Big Ten foe Washington. Claude is not the first Trojan transfer to depart for the Huskies this offseason. In May, Washington hired away USC assistant coach Quincy Pondexter. Shortly following that move, another high-profile Trojan transfer, Wesley Yates III, also announced his commitment to the Huskies. Here is what Huskies Wire had to say about the addition of Claude: 'As the Huskies scoured the country for a seasoned, high-impact wing to round out the rotation, the 6-foot-6 senior, who was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention for the 2024-25 season, is the perfect fit. Although he shot just 30.7 percent from long range last season, which has been one of Sprinkle's biggest points of emphasis throughout the offseason, Claude led the Trojans with an average of 15.8 points and 4.2 assists per game, adding 3.5 rebounds per contest while bringing several much-needed aspects to the roster.' With Claude and Yates both departing Southern California for Seattle, next season's matchups between USC and Washington should certainly be interesting. The Trojans and Huskies are slated to face off twice next season—once at Galen Center, and once in the Pacific Northwest.
