José Mourinho Accused of Racism After Calling Galatasaray ‘Monkeys'
The claims erupted after Monday's fiery 0-0 game in the Turkish Süper Lig, though Galatasaray has yet to specify exactly which comments triggered the outrage.
Fenerbahçe are still in the title race and trailing Galatasaray by just six points as the season heads into its final stretch.
The controversy exploded when Mourinho, 62, slammed Turkish referees and accused Galatasaray's bench of 'jumping like monkeys' after a heated first-half incident — words that instantly set social media ablaze.
'Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people. Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric,' Galatasaray said in a statement.
The Istanbul-based club vowed to file criminal charges and report Mourinho to UEFA and FIFA.

But Fenerbahçe quickly fired back, calling the racism accusations 'baseless' and accusing Galatasaray of trying to manipulate public opinion.
'A post-match remark made by our Coach, Jose Mourinho, has been deliberately taken entirely out of context and distorted in a misleading manner,' the club replied in a statement.'The expression used by Jose Mourinho was solely intended to describe the excessive reaction of the opposing team's technical staff to the referee's decisions during the match. These remarks cannot, under any circumstances, be associated with racism.'

The Portuguese manager, who took charge at Fenerbahçe last June, refused to hold back in his post-match press conference, lambasting the Turkish referees and even putting forth the idea that foreign officials should take charge of every game in Turkiye.
'I went to the referee's dressing room after the match,' Mourinho said. 'I told them 'this match was a disaster.''
Mourinho, known as the 'Special One,' is no stranger to controversy. He's been fined, suspended, and has been constantly at war with officials throughout his glittering career, which has seen him win two UEFA Champions League cups, two Europa Leagues, and league titles across top championships in Europe. Real Madrid Takes Fight Over Barcelona-Villarreal US Game to FIFA
La Liga's plan to stage the December match between FC Barcelona and Villarreal in Miami has met strong opposition from Real Madrid, who say the move threatens the competition's integrity. The Spanish top-flight's president, Javier Tebas, has been pushing to take a La Liga fixture to the United States as part of efforts to expand the league's global reach. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has approved the proposal to hold the Barcelona-Villarreal game in Miami, with final authorisation now awaited from UEFA. Comunicado Oficial. — Real Madrid C.F. (@realmadrid) August 12, 2025 Both Barcelona and Villarreal have shown support for the idea. However, Real Madrid have issued a formal statement criticising the decision to move the fixture away from Villarreal's home stadium, El Madrigal, without consulting all clubs involved. Real Madrid's statement said: 'The integrity of the competition requires that all matches be played under the same conditions for all teams. Unilaterally modifying this system breaks the equality between competitors, compromises the legitimacy of the results and sets an unacceptable precedent that opens the door to exceptions based on interests unrelated to strictly sporting matters, with a clear impact on sporting integrity and the risk of adulterating the competition.' The club also argued the move breaches the principle of territorial reciprocity, where teams play one home and one away game against each other. Real Madrid have taken the dispute to football's governing bodies. They have written to FIFA, UEFA and the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD), requesting that the match not be authorised unless there is unanimous agreement from all clubs in the league. Their statement outlined three specific actions: A request to FIFA to refuse authorisation without the consent of all participating clubs. A request to UEFA to urge the RFEF to withdraw or deny the request, citing a 2018 rule preventing domestic league matches being played outside the country except in exceptional circumstances. A request to the Higher Sports Council not to grant administrative permission without unanimous consent. Real Madrid concluded: 'Real Madrid reaffirms its commitment to respecting the national and international rules that guarantee the fairness and proper functioning of official competitions, and will defend their compliance before all competent authorities.' La Liga and the clubs involved have yet to respond publicly to Real Madrid's objections, leaving the future of the Miami fixture uncertain. The episode raises questions over how far leagues should go to pursue international expansion at the potential cost of sporting fairness. Real Madrid's resistance suggests a clear divide within Spanish football over the balance between commercial interests and competition integrity. It remains to be seen whether UEFA and FIFA will back La Liga's ambition or uphold Real Madrid's defence of tradition. For now, fans will wait to see if Miami hosts its first La Liga game this December or if the fixture stays on Spanish soil. Tags: BarcelonaFIFAFlorentino PerezReal MadridVillareal

Aboutrika: ‘FIFA Complicit if Israel Plays On'
Former Egypt international Mohamed Aboutrika has called on FIFA and UEFA to suspend Israeli teams and athletes, and to remove the 2026 World Cup from the United States, because of the Israeli genocide in Gaza. Speaking on Sunday during a television appearance analysing the Community Shield match between Crystal Palace and Liverpool, Aboutrika said: 'There are 760 Palestinian athletes martyred by Israel, including 420 footballers, while 140 football facilities have been destroyed.' He criticised what he saw as double standards: 'FIFA and UEFA stopped Russia over its war on Ukraine. When will the Israeli occupation be stopped? We don't want just words, we want real action.' The 2026 World Cup is scheduled from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by 16 cities across Canada, Mexico and the United States — the latter staging the majority of matches, including the final at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium. Aboutrika argued that the tournament should be taken away from the US, accusing Washington of direct complicity with Israel. 'Do not celebrate with the real estate broker (referring to former US president Donald Trump) on the podium at the Club World Cup final, with hands stained with Palestinian blood,' he said. He added: 'France, Britain and Germany are starting to wash their hands of Israel's crimes. This is an occupation, and there is a resistance defending its land. If FIFA and UEFA are serious, they must ban Israeli teams; otherwise, they are complicit — as are we if we remain silent.' According to Gaza health authorities, Israeli military action since October 7, 2023, has killed 61,430 Palestinians, injured more than 153,000 and displaced hundreds of thousands, amid widespread destruction and famine.

Mohamed Salah Condemns UEFA Over Silence on IOF Killing of Palestinian Footballer
Rabat – Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has accused UEFA of ignoring the truth about the death of Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid, after the European governing body posted a tribute that failed to mention he was killed by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The 41-year-old, known as the 'Palestinian Pele,' was shot dead on Wednesday when the IOF opened fire on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza, according to the Palestinian Football Association (PFA). Obeid, born in Gaza, was married and the father of five. He captained the Palestinian national team and played 24 international matches, becoming a source of pride for a people under siege. UEFA's post on X read: 'Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the 'Palestinian Pele'. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.' The message offered no mention of the IOF attack or the fact that he was targeted while unarmed. Salah responded sharply: 'Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?' The PFA reports that since the start of Israel's genocide on Gaza, 662 people from the sport and scouting sector have been killed, including 321 linked to football. In the first weeks of the genocide, Salah urged world leaders to act to open humanitarian corridors into Gaza and 'prevent further slaughter of innocent souls.' Recently, Israel's security cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to occupy Gaza City as part of their ongoing genocidal campaign. In a statement early Friday, Netanyahu's office said the army would move to seize the city while claiming it would provide humanitarian aid to civilians forced outside combat areas. For Palestinians, the plan means more massacres, more rubble, more graves. Hunger has already claimed nearly 200 lives as Israel seals Gaza's borders and turns starvation into a weapon of war. Over 61,000 Palestinians are dead, entire families wiped from existence, and no one knows for sure how many remain trapped in Gaza amid a relentless and unchecked genocide that keeps raging on.
