Cardinals 20, Chiefs 17: What we saw from Arizona on offense
The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday night in their preseason opener 20-17. The starters played a little more than a quarter, but it was the backups who rallied back from a 14-3 deficit to win.
As a team, they had 355 yards of offense, 24 first downs and converted 4-of-9 third downs.
What can we take away from the offensive performance?
Cardinals 20, Chiefs 17: Takeaways on offense
The Cardinals rushed for 140 yards on the evening, which should be expected. Of the 140 yards, 51 came late from Zonovan "Bam" Knight in the final quarter as the Cardinals ran the clock out. The Cardinals expect to have a strong rushing attack shared between James Conner and Trey Benson.
When quarterback Kyler Murray was in the game, the offense ran smoothly. He had only one incompletion. He completed passes to five different receivers. However, as sometimes the problem was last season, they didn't turn either of their two drives into touchdowns. Murray threw an interception and then they had to kick a field goal after Benson could not pick up a third-and-one run play.
Brissett and the second-team offense went three-and-out on their first drive, and he was hit twice in three plays. But he led the Cardinals to two touchdowns, giving them the lead. He was exactly what fans expect — steady and efficient. He even used his legs once to set up the second touchdown.
While Brissett was hit twice in the first possession he played, the pass protection was good. The Chiefs finished with only one sack and three quarterback hits, meaning the sack Clayton Tune took and the two hits Brissett took in thet three-and-out were the only ones of the game.

Trey McBride fantasy football preview 2025: Stats, season outlook, predictions
Rotoworld Staff, Trey McBride 2025 Fantasy Football Snapshot McBride commanded one of the league's highest target shares in 2024, trailing only Malik Nabers and Drake London. Marvin Harrison Jr.'s growth as a sophomore could impact his ceiling in AZ's offense. Touchdown regression should work in McBride's favor, giving him a strong chance to repeat as a top-tier fantasy tight end. Get personalized fantasy football insights based on your league settings with FantasyLife+. Your league is unique, your advice should be too. Head to and use code ROTO20 for 20% off. 2024: 15 weeks of edging led to McBride finally scoring a touchdown in Week 17. Before that, he did everything else for this offense, with seven 10-target weeks and three 100-yard games. The Cardinals simply had nothing else remotely successful going in the passing game in 2025, and thus they fed McBride handily – he had over 25 percent of their targets. Only Malik Nabers and Drake London had more. What's changed: McBride got paid, but now we have to reckon with an Arizona offense that seems bent on changing with Drew Petzing emphasizing pre-snap movement this offseason. Marvin Harrison Jr. showed up to early OTAs and minicamp looking like Cleatus the FOX Robot. Michael Wilson grows another year. There's not a for-sure target threat for McBride, but Harrison flipping him into the No. 2 target on the team would be rough for his chances of repeating as a top-2 finisher at the position. 2025 Outlook: We think McBride will be juuust fine. And he can offset some target regression by catching more touchdowns in 2025. Brock Bowers he ain't, but it's hard to find anyone else we'd rather bet on at the position than McBride. **Projections from Spotlight Sports Group Go to: All players | QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs

ESPN's Computer Predicts Winner Of Chiefs vs. Chargers Week 1 Game
ESPN's Computer Predicts Winner Of Chiefs vs. Chargers Week 1 Game originally appeared on The Spun. Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season will be here before you know it. The Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in the first Friday night game of the 2025 NFL regular season. Kansas City and Los Angeles will be playing overseas in Brazil. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. E.T. on Friday, Sept. 5, with the game airing live on YouTube. Ahead of the Week 1 showdown between the AFC West foes, the ESPN computer model, Football Power Index, released its pick for the game. ESPN's computer model likes the Kansas City Chiefs to take down the Los Angeles Chargers in their first game of the season. The Football Power Index is giving Kansas City a 56.9 percent chance of winning the game. Meanwhile, it's giving Los Angeles just a 42.8 percent chance of pulling off the upset on that Friday night. It could be the final ride for Travis Kelce, who announced earlier this year that he would be playing at least one more season. "I think the biggest thing is that I f------ love playing the game of football," he said. "I love playing. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year. I don't think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I've been in years past. I want to give it a good run. I got a bad taste in my mouth in how I ended last year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was to the people around me. "I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility, in the community, and it's home for me now. I don't want to leave that life yet. I put in a lot of hard work and I put in a lot of focus into being the best that I can for K.C. Last year it didn't end well for us. I just feel like there's a responsibility in me to play out the contract that I initially signed, to give Kansas City and the Chiefs organization everything that I've got, and that's what I'm going to do, man." Kickoff between Kansas City and Los Angeles is set for 8 p.m. E.T. on Sept. 5. Kyle Shanahan: Brandon Aiyuk's return could be Week 5, could be Week 10, won't be Week 1
The 49ers don't know for sure when wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be ready to return from last season's knee injury. But it should be around the middle of the season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said today that there's still a range of potential outcomes, but Week Six is a potential target date he's thinking of, not just for Aiyuk to make his 2025 debut, but also for quarterback Kurtis Rourke and safety Malik Mustapha, both of whom are also recovering from knee injuries. 'I kind of view all those guys around the same time, whether it's Mustapha, whether it's Rourke, or whether it's Brandon,' he said. 'I always see them around Week Six, which means that could be Week 10, it could be Week Five, but that's the area where I start thinking about it, which is a long ways away. I know it's not Week One or anything like that, so it's something I'm not really thinking about too much.' Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL on October 20 of last season in a game against the Chiefs. The 49ers' Week Six game is against the Buccaneers on October 12, so if that's Aiyuk's return date, he would have missed just under a full year. The 27-year-old Aiyuk was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in 2023, but in 2024 his production had declined before his season was cut short. The 49ers will hope to get the 2023 version of Aiyuk back in 2025, even if they have to wait until several weeks into the season.
