Derrick White Gets Real on the Boston Celtics Offseason Moves

USA Today5 days ago
When a team begins retooling the roster, we always think about how those changes are going to impact the on-court product and what the viewing experience is going to be like. We seldom wonder what impact it's going to have in the locker room, as players lose close friends and suddenly have a new group of personalities to integrate into the ecosystem.
That's exactly the position the Boston Celtics roster has found itself in this summer. Out went Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet, and (likely) Al Horford. In came Anfernee Simons, Luka Garza, Josh Minott, Hugo Gonzalez, Amari Williams and Max Shulga. That's a significant amount of turnover for one summer and will undoubtedly change the dynamic behind the scenes.
In the debut episode of his "White Noise" podcast, Derrick White provided some insight into what it means for a player when one or more of their teammates get traded, and how players move forward despite the surrounding upheaval. White also shared his thoughts on his former teammates and the bond they all shared after winning a championship together.

Could the Boston Celtics still sign free agent big man Charles Bassey?

Could the Boston Celtics still sign free agent big man Charles Bassey? It seems that earlier reports hinting at the former San Antonio Spurs reserve center heading to Europe to sign with Serbian ball club Partizan may be premature, per recent reporting from Celtics Blog's Noa Dalzell. But is is also unclear as to whether or not Boston's front office is looking to bring on the Sin City Celtics standout, despite Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens singing his praises after a strong showing in the NBA's 2025 Las Vegas Summer League. The team's tenuous status as a first apron team might also be playing a role in any decisions about Bassey to Boston. Might there be a potential partnership to be had here, or is this a case of fans latching on to a summer league star that ultimately is not likely to pan out? Also the host of the CLNS Media "You Got Boston" podcast, Dalzell took some time on a recent episode of her show to talk it over. Check it out below! Celtics point guard Derrick White hosts annual basketball camp in Colorado

Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White hosted his annual basketball camp in conjunction with Hillside Connection, a group founded by Terrell Brown that was created to promote the sport in Colorado Springs, this past Saturday (Aug. 2). The Celtics floor general took some time out of his offseason schedule to host nearly 100 youths at the camp at Sierra High School, per the Gazette's Marcus Hill. White leaned into NBA defense and the principles he conducts himself with while playing it to a rapt audience, but the Colorado native isn't just there to teach another generation of prospective players how to elevate their individual games at this stage of their engagement with the sport. "Coming back to the Springs where it all started for me is special," said the Celtics floor general. "Camps like this are a great way to play basketball and have fun or meet a new friend. You might learn a new technique you can take home and show your friends. " "It's a great way to get out here and meet new people and have fun while doing it," suggested White. "I'm from Colorado, and they can see a kid from Colorado made it and say, 'Why not me?'," asked the University of Colorado - Boulder alum rhetorically. "I saw Chauncey (Billups) do it and I know it's possible. Hopefully one of these kids sees me and what I've managed to accomplish, and they'll think it's possible to reach their dreams, whatever that might be."
