Approve BC quota bills or face ‘political tsunami' in '29: Revanth to Modi
on Wednesday launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the Centre of deliberately stalling the approval of Telangana's 42% Backward Classes (BC) reservation bills.

He warned Telangana's BC empowerment model and a bold quota expansion would turn into a political tsunami and "wash away the Modi-led BJP into the Bay of Bengal."
Revanth's remarks came during a dharna—dubbed 'BC Poru Bata'—held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, which saw participation from a wide spectrum of INDIA bloc parties, Congress ministers, MPs, MLCs, MLAs, and prominent BC leaders. While Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi were not present as they had gone to attend JMM leader Shibu Soren's funeral on Tuesday night, they deputed senior party leaders and MPs to show solidarity with what Revanth described as a 'historic moment' for BCs.
Revanth declared, "If PM Modi wants to remain in office, he must ensure the approval of the two BC reservation bills. Telangana's BC community is prepared to sacrifice everything for this cause. If Modi fails, the OBCs will bring down his govt and make Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister."

Revanth also questioned the rationale behind the Centre's objection to the state-specific legislation. "We are not asking for a piece of land in Gujarat or its ports. We're only demanding the right to implement 42% reservations in Telangana—for our people, in our state. Who gave you the authority to crush this mandate?"
He dubbed Modi the "biggest enemy of the BCs" and didn't spare state BJP leaders either, calling out Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, and Telangana BJP chief N Ramchander Rao for their 'silence'.

"With what face will you go to BC voters now? You didn't even join this dharna. Have you aligned with Modi to block BC empowerment?" he asked.
Revanth also targeted the BRS for its past decisions, blaming former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao for capping overall reservations at 50% under the Panchayat Raj Act, 2018. "We've moved an ordinance to scrap that cap. It's now pending with the President," he said.
Taking a swipe at the BJP's 2029 ambitions, Revanth responded to party MP Nishikant Dubey's comments that Modi will again be the PM face.
"Let Modi contest 2029. Rahul Gandhi-led INDIA bloc will defeat him decisively, and the BJP won't cross 100 seats," he claimed.
He invoked Rahul Gandhi's slogan 'Jitni hissedari, utni bhagedari' (proportional representation for social justice), warning political consequences for those who ignore it. "No matter how powerful, if anyone opposes Rahul Gandhi's vision, Telangana will mark the death of their political career," the CM said.
Revanth alleged that the BJP's continued delay is a deliberate attempt to suppress the aspirations of BCs. "The BC quota bills are pending with the President for the last four months. If we don't get an appointment with her tomorrow (Thursday), it will confirm BJP's 'anti-BC' bias," he said.
Calling himself as a 'crusader for social justice,' Revanth added, "Over 300 chief ministers have led different states in India, but I am proud to be the one who conducted a caste survey and passed 42% BC reservations. I thank my cabinet colleagues and Rahul Gandhi for their unwavering support."

Bengaluru: The opening of the new Yellow Line section of the Bengaluru metro has sparked a row between Karnataka's Congress government and the BJP and senior BJP leader Tejasvi Surya invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has called him a "boy in a hurry", accusing him of announcing the details and sending the invitation without consulting the state government. Tejasvi Surya has hit back, calling the Deputy Chief Minister "ageist' and "insensitive" and said theirs is a "politics of delay". "I am part of a young generation in India that wants reforms today -- not in some distant future," Mr Surya told NDTV in an exclusive interview. "He (Shivakumar) may have no urgency because he comes from a party that represents the politics of delay," he said. The metro, he added, is a requirement for thousands who have to spend two hours in public transport just to reach their office. "This is the situation and the Deputy Chief Minister says what is the urgency... A two-km flyover in my constituency took 8.5 years to complete. I am not okay with that," he added. The Congress, he has alleged, delayed the inauguration six times. "Recently, the seven MLAs of the Yellow Line area, two MPs, our district president, and hundreds of public members... all worked hard, protested, and demanded the inauguration be done by August 15," he said. Earlier, giving reporters a ride in the new metro line, Mr Shivakumar had said Rs 7,610 crore has been spent on the line that covers 19.5 km. "The clearances to operate this have come only on July 31. Our poor young MP who is inexperienced has been in a hurry but we can't do that. The technical clearances came only on July 31. Today is August 5 and the Prime Minister has been given time to inaugurate this on August 10," he told reporters. Mr Surya accused the Congress of trying to take credit for a project for which they had little contribution. "As soon as it was announced that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Metro line on Aug 10, yesterday they (the Congress) started publicity tours. The work on this Metro line began in 2018 and was supposed to be completed by 2021. Some problems occurred due to Covid-19, and some due to land acquisition. Even then, neither Congress nor anyone else came forward to help," he told reporters earlier. "During the Covid-19 period, BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government was in power. Even during Covid-19, civil works happened under our (BJP) government. There were problems in calling workers, so we met former CM Yediyurappa and he released additional funds. Much work was done. Later, during former CM and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai's tenure, we (the BJP) completed 95 per cent of the civil works. Their (Congress) government didn't even appoint a full-time Managing Director for BMRCL," Mr Surya alleged.

Shiv Sena minister lands in trouble over Rapido sponsorship after crackdown on firm
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena Minister Pratap Sarnaik has found himself embroiled in controversy over allegations of misusing his ministerial position to pressure Rapido, a bike taxi service provider, into sponsoring his son's Pro Govinda League 2025 event. According to the allegations, in July, Sarnaik booked a Rapido bike under a pseudonym from Mantralaya. When the bike arrived, he questioned the rider about operating without state government permission. He then reportedly called Rapido's manager, threatening to file an FIR and take strict action. However, instead of pursuing legal measures, Sarnaik allegedly secured sponsorship from Rapido for the Pro Govinda event, organized by his son, Purvesh Sarnaik. Maharashtra Congress Legislative Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar accused the minister of staging a crackdown on Rapido only to later strike a deal for sponsorship. Wadettiwar claimed that while the state faces financial constraints for critical projects, Sarnaik has demonstrated how to extort funds for personal events. In response, Sarnaik denied any wrongdoing, stating that connecting the Pro Govinda event with politics was "wrong." He claimed he had taken action against Rapido on July 2, while the sponsorship was finalized on May 26—before the alleged confrontation. "I fearlessly acted against the company even though it was sponsoring my son's event. Instead of appreciating this, some are opposing it unnecessarily," he said. His son, Purvesh, also denied any link between his father's actions and the sponsorship, asserting that the deal was secured a month prior. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar criticized Sarnaik for misusing his ministerial authority, calling it a breach of his oath. "CM Fadnavis must investigate this seriously and take appropriate action," Pawar said. The controversy has sparked a political row, with opposition leaders demanded Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis take action against Sarnaik for exploiting his authority for personal gain.
