Aaron Rodgers drops biggest Steelers hint yet in long free agency saga

New York Post24-05-2025

Aaron Rodgers dropped a hint about his NFL future last weekend.
During a live interview with rapper Mike Stud, the former Jets quarterback fielded a question from a young football fan in the crowd on whether he'd ever play for the Bears.
And his answer was telling.
'No, but I believe there's a team that might play in Chicago this year for a road trip,' Rodgers said.

Unsurprisingly, Rodgers stopped short of naming the team when asked to be more specific.
'I don't know, I'm not sure, I'm going to check it out,' Rodgers said with a smile.
Another fan asked the 41-year-old what the entire football world is wondering: If he is 'going to the Steelers.'
'You never know,' Rodgers replied.
Pittsburgh, a destination Rodgers has long been rumored to be heading to this offseason, will go to Chicago to play the Bears during Week 12 of the 2025 season.
Aaron Rodgers dropped a few hints but wouldn't say where, or if, he's playing in 2025.

The Bears also welcome the Vikings next season, who were in the mix for Rodgers earlier this year, but appear ready to hand the starting quarterback job to J.J. McCarthy.
New Orleans, which could be in the market for a veteran quarterback after Derek Carr's retirement, will also visit Chicago, though they're far from the contender Rodgers is presumed to be seeking.
The latest comments from Rodgers come a month after he said that people in his inner circle were dealing with 'difficult stuff' on 'The Pat McAfee Show,' leading to him delaying a decision on his football future.
'I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,' Rodgers said. 'I'm just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedent at this point.
During a conversation on 'The Joe Rogan Podcast' this week, Rodgers revealed that someone near him is dealing with cancer.

4 Trey Hendrickson trade offers emerge from NFL insiders

Are the Cincinnati Bengals still open to trading Trey Hendrickson? The NFL's reigning sack leader requested a trade at the outset of the offseason, mainly because the Bengals haven't offered to give him a pay raise that reflects his status as one of the NFL's best pass-rushers. Yet, that standstill has continued, and Hendrickson's camp has even threatened to sit out of games, if not the entire season. Of course, that result is not a solution anyone wants, especially Hendrickson, who's already 30 years old. Advertisement Recently, ESPN's panel of NFL insiders came up with a string of four trade scenarios involving Hendrickson. Let's dive into those Hendrickson trades. Jeremy Fowler proposes Trey Hendrickson trade to Indianapolis Colts Bengals trade: Hendrickson Colts trade: 2026 second-round pick, 2027 fifth-round pick This idea is interesting, considering the Colts hired former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo this offseason. Essentially, that gives the Colts a strong level of familiarity with a potential impact player, reducing the risk of trading valuable draft picks. Dan Graziano outlines Hendrickson trade to Bills Bengals trade: Hendrickson Bills trade: 2026 second-round pick The Bills are annually trying to reach the Super Bowl, and acquiring Hendrickson increases their chances of accomplishing their goal. Would the Bengals be willing to deal with a direct playoff competitor? Ben Solak projects Hendrickson trade to Lions Bengals trade: Hendrickson, 2026 fifth-round pick Lions trade: 2026 second-round pick, 2027 fourth-round pick (upgrades to third-round pick based on performance escalators) Advertisement The Lions have been seeking a partner-in-crime to play opposite Aidan Hutchinson, and we can't think of a better solution than Hendrickson. Solak wonders if Hendrickson would be the caliber of run defender the Lions typically prefer, but their interest in boosting the pass-rush could win out in the end. Seth Walder's Hendrickson trade sends him to Commanders Bengals trade: Hendrickson Commanders trade: Jer'Zhan Newton, 2026 third-round pick, 2027 seventh-round pick Newton was just the 36th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, so his inclusion here is interesting. However, the Commanders have since signed Javon Kinlaw and Eddie Goldman, plus they still have Daron Payne too. Yet, the Commanders do have a strong need to boost their pass-rush, and Hendrickson would be a wondrous solution. Las Vegas Raiders: 3 players who could turn into training camp holdouts, including Jakobi Meyers

Like most NFL teams, the Las Vegas Raiders opened mandatory minicamp this week. While some clubs practiced without key players seeking new deals, the Raiders didn't have that issue. Still, they should work on extensions with a few veterans to avoid holdouts at training camp. Late in May, Las Vegas made AJ Cole the league's highest-paid punter, signing him to a four-year, $15.8 million extension including $11 million in guarantees. As an All-Pro-Pro Bowler in three of the last four seasons, he earned that extension. Advertisement Other extension candidates haven't achieved leaguewide accolades in recent seasons, but they deserve a pay raise based on their position market. Here's a breakdown of three Raiders who could hold out for a new deal if the front office doesn't extend their contract before training camp. Offensive tackle Kolton Miller Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Kolton Miller skipped an early portion of the Raiders' offseason program. Yet he's participated in practices through OTAs and attended mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. He told reporters that he wants to stay with the team long term. Last offseason, Miller underwent shoulder surgery and needed time to work his way into form. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed five sacks in the first two weeks of the regular season but only gave up two more for the remainder of the campaign. Even without any All-Pro or Pro Bowl accolades, Miller is a quality left tackle, and the Raiders should reward him with a new deal. Advertisement Currently the 13th highest-paid left tackle set to make $18 million this year, he could command over $22 million annually with at least $50 million in guarantees. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images After Davante Adams took an escape route out of Las Vegas, Jakobi Meyers took over the lead wideout role to complement rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who led the team in most receiving categories last season. He caught 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns. Still the lead playmaker in a relatively young receiver room, Meyers is an underpaid lead wideout. Set to make $11 million this year, he's 29th among wide receivers in annual salary. During OTAs, Meyers chose to keep contract talks between himself and the organization. Advertisement 'Yeah, I want to be here, for sure,' he said to reporters. 'But that's all I could really say on it right now. That's business between us and the top floor. So, I'm just going to hold that one down for now.' Meyers' contract situation should be a priority in Las Vegas. He has no guaranteed money in the final year of his deal. He could command $15-20 million annually following his most productive campaign. Kicker Daniel Carlson Daniel Carlson may celebrate a new deal with fellow special-teams player AJ Cole if the Raiders want to pay their kicker before he enters free agency in 2026. In a contract year, Carlson can force the conversation with a holdout to speed up the process. Advertisement Carlson's conversion rate on field goals has declined since he made 94.3 percent of his attempts in 2020. Despite that, Las Vegas Review-Journal's Vincent Bonsignore believes Carlson could be in line for an extension. In 2024, Carlson converted on 85 percent of his field goals, though four of his six misses were from 50-plus yards. Based on that context, the Raiders may believe that his conversion rate will trend in the right direction with an offense that can move the ball more efficiently than their recent units. 5 best Jaire Alexander landing spots after release from Green Bay Packers

After failing to reach a contract resolution that would have reduced his salary to less than the $16.15 million he's set to make in 2025, the Green Bay Packers are set to release Jaire Alexander. The Packers tried to trade him first, but teams weren't willing to pay Alexander's current rate either. So, now that he's on the open market, the other 31 teams can freely negotiate with the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback at a fair market rate. But which teams are still in need of another starting cornerback? Here's a quick list of five potential landing spots for Alexander. Carolina Panthers Credit: Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images The Carolina Panthers are fresh off having the worst defense in NFL history. They've taken steps to improve upon last season, but finding Jaycee Horn a proper running mate would be ideal. Alexander may have just played a total of 14 games in the past two seasons, but if he's healthy, the Panthers could luck into a Pro Bowler. Jaire Alexander could come in and immediately be the best of the bunch, as long as he stays healthy. Alexander has recorded an interception in seven of eight seasons as a pro, which should give the Raiders a reason to take a chance on him. Related: Predicting NFL playoff teams and Super Bowl 2026 winner Miami Dolphins Credit: JIM RASSOL/THE PALM BEACH POST / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Miami Dolphins are on the verge of parting ways with Jalen Ramsey, which means they'll soon need another starter capable of making plays on the ball. Alexander is a perfect 1-for-1 replacement, considering his tendency to create turnovers. Plus, the Dolphins have former Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry on staff. Los Angeles Rams Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The Los Angeles Rams are one of several teams rumored to have interest in a trade for Ramsey, but if they strike out, how about Alexander? The Rams are clearly interested in adding another high-end cornerback, and Alexander can be signed immediately. Related: Want more Rams coverage? Visit Minnesota Vikings Credit: Wm. Glasheen-Imagn Images If Alexander wants to stick it to his former team, what better destination than landing with the Minnesota Vikings? Plus, they have former Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine on staff, giving Alexander some immediate flexibility. Alexander would slot in opposite of Byron Murphy, giving the Vikings two Pro Bowl cornerbacks to lead their secondary. Advertisement Related: Want more Vikings coverage? Visit Related Headlines
