Clash of the Titans: Mamelodi Sundowns face-off with Orlando Pirates as MTN8 semi-final fixtures confirmed

Although Orlando Pirates got their season off to the perfect start with a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City in their MTN8 quarterfinal over the weekend, it was not all good news. The bad news for Pirates is that they will now have to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final of the competition. Though Pirates are defending champions in the competition, there's little doubt they would have preferred to avoid the league champions in their pursuit of more cup glory. In fact, Sundowns were the most convincing victors in the first round of the MTN8 as they ran out 4-0 winners over a hapless Richards Bay over the weekend.

All Blacks pick ONE uncapped player everyone is talking about

New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson on Monday named one uncapped player in his squad for the Rugby Championship, which begins this month when the All Blacks play back-back Tests in Argentina. Chiefs flanker Simon Parker was included for the first time for the opening match against the Pumas in Cordoba on August 16. 'Simon Parker had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality that we are looking forward to working with,' Robertson said. 'He has the ability to play blindside or No 8 and has gained experience in a number of New Zealand representative teams, so we believe he is ready for the step up.' Robertson named three uncapped players as injury cover – prop Tevita Mafileo, scrumhalf Kyle Preston and versatile back Leroy Carter. Tyrel Lomax, Luke Jacobson, Cam Roigard, Noah Hotham and Caleb Clarke will not travel because of injury. 'While we are clearly disappointed for our men who are currently recovering from injuries, that has also created opportunities for a number of deserving players,' Robertson said. 'These players have earned the opportunity through consistent performance, and we know that they will take this chance. 'It is also fantastic to have Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi returning from their injuries, as well as welcoming Peter Lakai, Finlay Christie and Josh Lord back into the group.' It points to a seriously impressive level of continuity that 66.6% of those who started in Yokohama also started in the showpiece four years later. Percy Montgomery was the first Springbok to reach a century of caps. Overall, his tally of 102 appearances places him seventh in the all-time reckoning. Only Eben Etzebeth, Victor Matfield, Bryan Habana, Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit and Jean de Villiers have more. Active players Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit and skipper Siya Kolisi are the standout candidates to enter the GOAT debate alongside Montgomery, Habana and Matfield. We've been spoiled for choice over the years. Willie le Roux is the eighth member of the club after recently bringing up 100 caps against Italy in July.
