Audit Dept adopting village and school near Tuaran

By: Bernama Text Size: Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi. - pix Bernama KOTA KINABALU: The National Audit Department is strengthening its role in community development by adopting a village and school near Tuaran this year under the Madani Adopted Village and Madani Adopted School programmes. The department announced that the Kampung Topokon and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Topokon were the respective village and school involved in the programmes, with allocations of RM1 million and RM100,000. Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi chaired the coordination meeting between various federal and state government agencies at Wisma Audit Sabah, here, Saturday. 'Following its successful implementation in 2024, the Government has expanded the programme to 200 villages throughout the country in 2025. 'The effort is in line with the whole-of-government approach that stresses on cross-agency cooperation to ensure quick and efficient service delivery to the public,' the department said in a statement, adding that the Auditor-General presented appointment letters to departments and agencies involved during the meeting. The scope of the adopted school programme would focus on upgrading the canteen to provide a safer and comfortable dining environment for pupils, while the adopted village programme would have four main areas, including upgrading the multipurpose hall, the futsal and open basketball courts, school facilities and community programmes. Court of Appeal upholds Sarawak homebuyers' right to claim from booking fee date
KUCHING: The Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling that late delivery compensation for homes in Sarawak should be calculated from the date the booking fee is paid, not the date of the sale and purchase agreement (SPA). In a unanimous decision on Thursday (August 24), a three-member bench, comprising Datuk Azimah Binti Omar, Datuk Wong Kian Kheong and Datuk Ismail Brahim allowed an appeal by the Sarawak Housing Tribunal against developer Lien Dak Development Sdn Bhd, awarding costs of RM10,000. The judgment followed the Federal Court's precedent in the PJD Regency case and the RJ Realty cases in Sarawak. The dispute began when buyers Wong Sii Hieng and Ng Siew Eng complained to the Tribunal in 2021 over the late delivery of a Rock Road property purchased in 2016. The Tribunal ruled in their favour, but the High Court later quashed the award. The Court of Appeal has now reinstated the Tribunal's decision, reinforcing homebuyers' rights. Separately, the Court allowed Sentoria Borneo Land Sdn Bhd to discharge its legal team in an ongoing appeal involving purchasers of Borneo Samariang Resort City serviced apartments. The Tribunal, represented by the Sarawak State Attorney-General's Chambers, is defending its awards under the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Ordinance 2013. The case will return for case management on September 12, 2025.

Sultan Nazrin opens Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge in Kuala Kangsar
KUALA KANGSAR: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has inaugurated the Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge at Dataran Manong here. Sultan Nazrin and the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, arrived at 11am on Thursday (Aug 14), accompanied by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and his wife Datin Seri Aezer Zubin. Also present were Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Public Works Department (JKR) director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail. In his speech, Nanta said the 300m-long Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge and 3km-long connecting road now link Pekan Manong and Kampung Seberang Manong, reuniting two communities that were once separated by a river. "The construction of this bridge not only improves mobility for the people but also strengthens community ties, stimulates the growth of tourism, trade, and agriculture sectors, as well as opens more economic opportunities for residents in the surrounding areas," he said. "I believe that with the cooperation between the federal and state governments, more high-impact development projects can be implemented in Perak for the well-being of its people," he said. The Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge, a project under the 11th Malaysia Plan costing more than RM37mil, was completed on Oct 25, 2019. – Bernama
