What action taken against illegal dyeing units? NGT seeks report in 3 months
Noida: The National Green Tribunal has directed the Ghaziabad DM to submit an action plan against illegal dyeing units within the next three months. The tribunal was told that power supply to some units operating without consent to operate (CTO) has already been disconnected. The tribunal was disposing of the original application filed by Prem Nagar residents welfare association (RWA), Loni, on Aug 5. The NGT formed a joint committee on Oct 24 to verify the claims. After multiple inspections, the committee submitted its report in two parts on March 31 and Aug 4, 2025. Out of the 286 industrial units pointed out in the complaint, as many as 37, comprising 34 dyeing units and three electroplating units, were found to be operating either without consent to operate (CTO) or releasing chemical waste into the drain without any treatment. Appearing before the tribunal, the committee informed that the power connection to 30 such units was disconnected by the distribution company, and similar action will be taken against the remaining seven in the presence of officials of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The joint committee found that the illegal units have not installed any effluent treatment plants (ETPs) for the treatment of wastewater generated from the dyeing and washing processes. The untreated wastewater is being directly discharged into the Indirapuri drain through local drainage systems, which ultimately leads to the Yamuna River, causing serious environmental pollution. The tribunal comprising chairperson justice Prakash Srivastava, judicial member justice Sudhir Agrawal, and expert member Dr A Senthil ruled that it has been pointed out that the issue of Indrapuri drain, which outflows in the river Yamuna, is under consideration along with the other drains in OA No. 6/2012 and that Ghaziabad DM will ensure that a proper time-bound action plan within three months "He will ensure the preparation of such a time-bound action plan within three months from today and will submit an action taken report before the Registrar General of the Tribunal by email," the tribunal ruled while disposing of the matter. Bilaspur teen murders minor friend over mobile gaming dispute
Raipur: A frantic 15-day search for a missing teenager in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh ended in a chilling revelation that the 13-year-old boy was brutally murdered by his friend over a dispute concerning a mobile phone used for online gaming. The deceased, Chinmay Suryavanshi, a Class 8 student from Bharari village, went missing on the evening of July 31. The search concluded tragically on Friday when residents reported a foul stench near the village's old, abandoned school building, leading to the recovery of Chinmay's decomposed body inside a classroom. Investigators found Chinmay's body inside a locked classroom. Police responded swiftly with forensic experts and a dog squad. "The body was in a highly decomposed state. We have sent it for postmortem examination," said Naresh Chouhan, investigating officer of Ratanpur police station. According to Chinmay's parents, he left home around 4:30 pm but did not return. Over the past two weeks, his parents and relatives conducted an extensive search, visiting neighbours, consulting relatives, and lodging a missing person report. Desperate, they printed pamphlets featuring Chinmay's photo and offered a Rs one lakh cash reward for information leading to his safe return. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo His father, Ajay Suryavanshi, stated that they had feared foul play from the outset. "We suspected someone had lured him away. We felt completely helpless after routine follow-up with police and getting no lead," he told reporters. Police reported that the investigation took a shocking turn after detaining Chhatrapal Suryavanshi, 19, a close acquaintance from the same village. During interrogation, Chhatrapal broke down and confessed. He admitted that both he and Chinmay were heavily involved in mobile gaming, but his parents had recently confiscated his phone. When Chhatrapal asked Chinmay to lend him his device to continue playing, Chinmay refused. Enraged, Chhatrapal allegedly strangled him to death and dragged the body to the deserted school building, where he locked it to conceal the crime. "Interrogation has confirmed that the murder took place over a dispute involving a mobile phone. The victim's handset has also been recovered from the accused and he was arrested," said Bilaspur Additional SP Archana Jha. The building where Chinmay's body was found had been unused for the past 10 months. A new school structure was constructed in the village last year, and classes were moved there. Chasing followers, Mauganj teen's fake suicide shock triggers police panic
Bhopal: In a bizarre bid for social media fame, a 17-year-old girl from Mauganj district caused a panic when she posted a reel appearing to show her swallowing poison — only for police to find out she had actually ingested common salt. The reel, uploaded from Madha village in Hanumana area, was captioned 'Pyaar ki khushi ke liye… good bye' and showed the minor drinking water mixed with a white powder. The clip raised urgent concerns of a suicide attempt, prompting the cyber cell and district police to take swift action. "The video came to our attention through cyber cell monitoring. We traced her location and immediately dispatched a police team. It was soon revealed that the minor had staged the entire act to seek attention," said additional SP Mauganj Vikram Singh on Saturday. When police arrived, the teenager confessed that she had swallowed salt, not poison, and admitted her online reels were not gaining popularity, motivating her to create the stunt. Hanumana police station in-charge Anil Kakre said, "Within an hour of the video's upload, we had located her and reached her. She then admitted the truth. The whole episode lasted approximately 2–3 hours on Aug 13." "We released her after counseling and cautioning her," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Officials expressed concern that such reckless stunts not only fuel rumors but also waste valuable police and administrative resources, urging people to avoid creating dangerous content for the sake of 'likes' and 'followers'. The incident itself has gone viral, with many condemning the obsession with digital fame that triggered a panic. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
