ENG vs IND: Rishabh Pant provides update on foot injury, to begin rehab soon

India vice-captain Rishabh Pant has provided an update on his foot injury after being ruled out of the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batter took to social media on Sunday to thank fans for their support and confirmed that he will begin rehabilitation once the fracture in his right foot heals."Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%," Pant wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love." advertisement Pant suffered the injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test in Manchester after inside-edging a reverse sweep from Chris Woakes onto his foot while batting on 37. He immediately collapsed in pain, prompting medical staff to rush onto the field. After terror attacks, India vs Pakistan at Asia Cup to go ahead—can govt step in? Not yet

The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is gearing up for another high-voltage installment at next month's Asia Cup, but the announcement of the clash has already triggered public outcry. The key question floating around: can the Indian sports ministry step in to stop the match? Not at the moment. The massacre briefly brought India and Pakistan to the brink of a military confrontation. Now, just a few months later, the two cricketing nations are scheduled to face each other in a tournament led by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi. Despite the strong emotions, the sports ministry has no jurisdiction over the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as things stand. 'As of now, the BCCI does not come under the purview of the sports ministry as the National Sports Governance Bill is still to be passed. So, the ministry doesn't have a say, but we will wait and see how the BCCI responds to public sentiment,' a ministry official told PTI. Live Events Former defence intelligence chief Lt Gen (Retd) KJS Dhillon is among those urging a boycott of all sporting ties with Pakistan. But Sourav Ganguly, ex-BCCI president and Indian captain, while condemning terrorism, has pushed for sport to continue uninterrupted. 'Sport should go on,' he said. The sports ministry has made its position clear: bilateral sporting ties with Pakistan are off the table. But multilateral events like the Asia Cup are governed by international charters. India, eyeing a bid for the 2036 Olympics, is especially mindful of the Olympic Charter, which bars political discrimination. That's why Pakistan was allowed to send athletes for events held in India, and why India is unlikely to block their participation in return. Cricket is now part of the Olympic fold and is set to debut at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. However, the Asia Cup is not governed by the ICC. It's a property of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), currently headed by the PCB. This year's tournament has a marquee India-Pakistan clash lined up for September 14, with two more potential face-offs if both sides progress. Broadcasters are betting big on these matches—and not without reason. Sony Network paid a hefty USD 170 million for an eight-year broadcast deal with the ACC. If India and Pakistan don't square off, those viewership numbers and ad revenues could take a serious hit. That, in turn, could impact ACC's earnings—and by extension, the funding of its 24 member boards, many of whom rely on these revenues for development. BCCI's own coffers may be large enough to absorb the blow, but smaller nations would feel the pinch. So what about the new sports bill? The National Sports Governance Bill, introduced in Parliament just last week, contains a clause that could, in theory, give the sports ministry the power to step in. It allows the government to 'impose reasonable restrictions' on Indian teams' international participation when 'necessitated by extraordinary circumstances' and 'in the national interest.' But the bill is still working its way through Parliament. It hasn't been passed by both Houses, nor received the President's assent. Until that happens, it doesn't have the force of law. And until then, the BCCI remains autonomous. 'The scenario changes when that happens. But as of now, it is status quo. It is the BCCI's call,' the ministry source said. India and Pakistan haven't played a bilateral series since the 2008 Mumbai attacks. But they've regularly clashed in multi-nation tournaments like the World Cup and Champions Trophy, events that draw millions of viewers and advertisers alike. Vindu Dara Singh Slams Pakistan For Fostering Terrorism: ‘Shame On Those People'

Vindu Dara Singh spoke about India's match against Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup. He also slammed Pakistan for harbouring terrorists on its soil. Ever since the deadly attack in Pahalgam, India's relations with Pakistan have deteriorated. Amid the ongoing tensions between the two countries, Son of Sardaar 2 actor Vindu Dara Singh spoke strongly against Pakistan's role in fostering terrorism. The 61-year-old actor also weighed in on the ongoing debate following the announcement of the Asia Cup fixture between the two nations. In the Asia Cup 2025, India is placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan. The two countries will face off against each other on September 14. Singh shared that sports should bring people together. 'We all know whatever has been going on, but sports is a different field," Vindu told ANI. Vindu Dara Singh On Pakistan The actor further urged Pakistan to stop harbouring terrorist groups on their soil as it would ultimately lead to their global isolation. He added, 'Pakistan needs to realise that they are losing out by doing wrong to India… We want peace, but they need to initiate this time. They are the ones who cause the problem. India has never attacked any country first. Shame on those people in Pakistan who support terrorism." Vindu's comment came just days after the announcement of the Asia Cup 2025 fixture between India and Pakistan. The tournament, organised by the Asian Cricket Council, is scheduled to take place from September 9 to September 25 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Initially, India was supposed to host the tournament. But the recent military tensions between the countries following the deadly attack in Pahalgam has forced the authorities to organise the tournament at a neutral venue, the UAE. The terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22 claimed the lives of 26 people. Post the attack, India launched a series of precision strikes under Operation Sindoor in May to destroy terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The two countries were involved in a military conflict before a ceasefire was announced on May 10. What's Vindu Dara Singh's Next Project? The actor is set to appear in the comedy film Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and Sanjay Mishra. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film is set to be released theatrically on August 1. The movie will also feature Mukul Dev posthumously. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
