Hollyoaks star David Tag engaged after popping the question in romantic Ibiza proposal

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Former Hollyoaks star David Tag, who played Sylver McQueen on the soap from 2018 to 2022, has announced he and girlfriend Abi Harrison are now engaged after he popped the question
Hollyoaks star David Tag has announced his engagement to Abi Harrison after popping the question in a very romantic way.

The actor, who played Sylver McQueen on the Channel 4 soap from 2018 until 2022, is holidaying in Ibiza with his girlfriend Abi Harrison and took her down to the beach during a sunset on the Mediterranean island where he got down on one knee. He posted a series of photos on Instagram and a short video which showed that beauty therapist Abi immediately accepted his proposal and they shared a kiss in front of the ocean.

Alongside the post, David wrote: "This years Ibiza turned out to be a bit more eventful than normal," and a flurry of his former co-stars rushed to send their congratulations. Former Waterloo Road actress Chelsee Healey - who stars as David's on-screen sister Goldie McQueen on Hollyoaks - wrote: "Omg congratultions so so happy for you - and James Sutton, better known to soap fans as John Paul McQueen, simply wrote: "YESSSSSS!!!!!" and emblazoned his post with a series of red heart emojis.

Former I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Of Here! campmate Owen Warner, who found fame as Romeo Nightingale on Hollyoaks, wrote: "Congrats big man [red heart emoji]", and was joined by other co-stars such as Isabelle Smith, Nikki Sanderson and Bethannie Hare, who also sent their congratulatory messages. The couple have been together since 2019, and they moved in together at the onset of the COVID-19 lockdowns the following year.
In 2021, they welcomed baby Reuben to the world, and it was then that the idea of marriage was first spoken about. Even though it has taken a few years for the pair to actually get engaged, they admitted at the time that tying the knot was something they hoped would happen eventually. Asked if they have discussed getting engaged, they didn't shirk the question. Abi added: "We both want to get married, but there's no pressure."

At the time, the couple even noted that there could even be more children on the way sometime in the future. David said: "We instantly made ourselves broody again when he came out and we saw how cute he was! We would like more than one."
The actor admitted he's been feeling some 'dad guilt' after returning to work just 10 days after Reuben was born. He told OK!: "It's been completely life-changing but we've taking it in our stride, especially Abi. I've been at work a lot of the time but Abi has taken it on like she's done it all before.
"The labour was just over three hours. It was really good and really quick – well, really good for me, maybe not so much for Abi!" In 2023, the couple announced they were expecting their second child and son Kaspar arrived in September of that year.

Prior to landing his signature role on Hollyoaks, David appeared in a single episode of ITV's soap Emmerdale before joining the Channel 4 drama in a regular role. His character arrived having been released from prison following the murder of his abusive stepfather, and his storylines featured him trying to build a relationship with his sister after nearly 20 years behind bars. In early 2022, David bowed out of the long-running show, which is gearing up to celebrate his 30th anniversary, when his alter-ego died in an explosion at the Pateserie. Since leaving the serial, he has appeared in an episode of Meet the Richardsons and has been a regular in pantomime during the Christmas season.
However, behind-the-scenes he was in pain and suffering from varicose veins, and only opened up about the issue after he had quit the serial. Appearing on This Morning with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, David revealed a small vein began to appear more than ten years ago. He went on: "When it got hot or when it got cold it was painful, and to touch it was quite sensitive."
The actor revealed he was particularly impacted when trying to play with his kids and while training in the gym. Recalling being on set, David said: "A lot of the times I would take my clothes off for certain scenes, and I would try and hide it."
"I wanted to do the scenes so I would just position myself in a certain way so they couldn't see it," he continued, saying he was "a little bit embarrassed of it". David sought treatment after realising it 'wouldn't go away', and as the size of the vein increased, he realised: 'This is getting out of hand, I need to get it sorted.'
The star underwent a treatment involving laser on both his legs, which left him wearing stocking-like clothes and unable to train for a week. 'Now, you wouldn't even be able to tell it was there,' he said, revealing his confidence has since increased.

'Worst show on TV' is ending and its biggest critics are full of regret

And Just Like That… Sex and The City fans will no longer be tormented by its divisive revival. Creator Michael Patrick King has confirmed that And Just Like That, which has regularly been branded 'the worst show on TV',is coming to an end after its third and current season. In a statement shared on Instagram, King wrote: 'And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end. 'While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. 'Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. 'SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. 'It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.' Despite the relentless backlash and calls for it to be over, viewers who have spent three seasons 'hate-watching' are still absolutely crushed. And Just Like That hater Tom Zohar wrote on X: 'PLEASE I DIDN'T MEAN ALL THE THINGS I SAID ABOUT YOU I LOVE YOU PLEASE DON'T LEAVE.' Another fan who loved to hate-watch, Felipe, tweeted: 'conflicted because the show is objectively terrible but i'd still watch 10 seasons of it.' Pop Culture Instagram account Deuxmoi commented: 'See what happens when you complain!!!!!' Others said they 'felt sick' and were 'devastated' but there was also a large sector of the And Just Like That audience who breathed a sigh of relief. Sex and The City was an instant movement when it launched in 1998, making Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Miranda Hobbes, (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte Yorke (Kristin Davis) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) four of the most loved women of the decade. Their influence has hardly faltered almost 30 years later. In 2021 the girls were back – well, without Samantha due to Cattrall's fall out with the rest of the cast – in And Just Like That, the reboot so many longed for but never thought would happen. The excitement was unrivalled but soon fizzled out when Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte were criticised for being unrecognisable to the women fans adored and watching Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) felt like a punishment when we'd all been so patient. The latest series was praised for getting back on track but it also came with bizarre misfires. In one episode, Lisa Todd Wexley's (Nicole Ari Parker) dad died from a stroke. Fans noted that she claimed he'd already died back in season one. Producers did explain the issue, insisting the father mentioned in season one was her stepfather but fans weren't satisfied with the response. Parker shared a series of iconic Carrie moments and said the columnist with the wardrobe worth millions 'dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.' Davis, who starred as Charlotte for 27 years, wrote: 'I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. 'And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever.' And Just Like That is available to stream on NOW. Got a story? Peru Two drug mule Michaella McCollum insists she's changed ahead of Celeb SAS challenge

EXCLUSIVE: Michaella McCollum is trying to move on from her Peru Two past and make her kids proud on TV this weekend If there is one women who might be equipped to take on the toughness of an SAS challenge, it is Michaella McCollum. It's been more than a decade since drug mule Michaella made headlines as one half of the so-called Peru Two. ‌ On 6 August 2013, Michaella McCollum and Melissa Reid were arrested at Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru. Their luggage contained £1.5m worth of cocaine. ‌ Michaella had been convinced to attempt to smuggle the drugs from Peru to Spain by a man she met in Ibiza. But it was a decision that would see her go on to spend three years behind bars in one of South America's toughest prisons before being granted early release. Her interview comes after Channel 4 breaks silence after Gogglebox couple suddenly dumped from show. ‌ Looking back, Michaela admits that having messed up when she went to jail for drug smuggling left her so terrified of making another mistake she became so cautious and stuck in her ways. Signing up to Channel 4 's SAS was her way of giving her a push to take back control of her life. 'I feel like in my younger days, I made lots of mistakes, so then I was really cautious of doing things, because I didn't want to mess up again. I didn't want to mess up, I didn't want to make any more mistakes. ‌ "But we can't live life like that, because we're always going to make mistakes, we're always going to make bad choices, obviously not as bad a choice as I made previously, but it's okay to make a mistake. 'I had got to the point where I was just refusing to do a lot of things because I was scared. What if I mess it up? What if I take this job and it doesn't work out? What if I move to this place and it doesn't work out? I was just a little bit afraid of making those decisions. I felt stuck. So I guess that was the main thing for me, to try and learn to overcome that. ‌ 'I was at the point in my life where I was just stuck in my comfort zone, and I thought this is a good way to break those barriers and do the things that scare me, and maybe that will help me in the future with decisions and just different things in life.' Now 32, she is stepping back into the spotlight in the new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, alongside the likes of Rebecca Loos and Conor Benn. The celebs take part in the most gruelling phase of Special Forces selection, directed through by an elite team of ex-Special Forces soldiers including Chief Instructor Billy Billingham. ‌ First she had to learn to swim before heading onto the show, then face a grilling from the SAS team and even fight her co-stars and take on a range of other challenges. Michaela knows she will always be known as one half of the Peru Two but Michaela hopes being on the Channel 4 series will show people a different side to her. ‌ She told the Mirror: 'It's so easy to sit at home and judge somebody when somebody's whole life is tearing apart. So I feel like it was important, I guess, when I got there, to show that I'm not just that girl who went to prison. "I'm a mother, I'm a human, I make mistakes. This is what we are and this is what we're here to do. So I hope it does change the public's opinion, but if it doesn't, it doesn't. 'I did that show for me, I wanted to improve myself and push myself. There's gonna be people that will always have their opinion. There'll be people that will always judge me for that(smuggling). But I'm not just that. ‌ "I hope it kind of, softens the image so people get to see me in a different light.' And having spent three years in the notorious Ancon 2 jail Michaella endured horrendous living conditions, physical violence, and while battling the legal system and learning to survive in an environment that was as hostile as it was brutal. ‌ Following her release in 2015, Michaella sought to rebuild her life in Northern Ireland, earning a degree in International Business Management from Ulster University in 2023. She also found a new passion for fitness, using it as a tool to reclaim control over her life. She regularly delivers motivational talks about personal transformation, overcoming adversity, and the dangers of coercion. Her experiences, both in prison and in navigating the challenges that followed, have made her a sought-after speaker for law enforcement and community groups. Away from the show She's a single mum to two twin boys and Michaela says they are going to be shocked when they see what she did on the course. She can't wait for them to see her in action and realise that behind the glam exterior is a tough cookie. ‌ She said: 'I spoke to my kids about the show, and they didn't want me to do the show, because they were like, 'You're going to die.' 'I'm like, 'I'm not going to die' And like, 'No, because this is really bad, and you're going to break your nails.' I'm like, 'It's fine. I can break my nails. It's okay'. ‌ 'But I think I had these conversations with them, obviously they're only seven, but I had these conversations with them after. So I think when it does air, to show them that, because obviously they don't see that side of me, to show that I am capable of doing that, and that it's okay. "They'll think it's super cool to jump off a speedboat onto a helicopter. They're going to see that mum is an action hero! I'm a single mum, so it's just me in my household. They always say mum doesn't do boy stuff but I hope when they see this and what I did I'll be like, "Yeah, you see me? I can do what boys do too.' Asked if she has learned anything from the experience, on top of all the other experiences she had had in life, she added: 'I mean, they're incredibly strong, resilient people. You don't normally meet people that are faced with the challenges and the things that they have to do. "And I guess when you listen to them and you talk to them, you realise that the things that you worry about in your everyday life really don't freaking matter. The things we're stressing about every day, they don't matter when you have people like them in the Army or SAS. What they have to go through when they are in times of war, you don't really understand that.'

Hollyoaks tour cancelled ahead of huge anniversary over 'low ticket sales'

The upcoming Hollyoaks Live tour has been dropped by its promoters, who are said to have 'over-estimated' the appeal for the production, which is external to the TV show A huge tour for a major TV show has been dramatically axed due to low ticket sales. Hollyoaks Live, which is an external production from the Channel 4 soap opera, was expected to hit the road, giving fans an insight into the popular programme but bosses have been forced to pull the plug. ‌ But while a string of famous faces from the show had signed on the dotted line to meet with fans, the production, which was due to take place in October, will no longer be going ahead. ‌ Soap stars including Nick Pickard, Kieron Richardson, Jorgie Porter, Gary Lucy, and Ashley Taylor Dawson were set to meet fans who had splashed out a whopping £161 for meet and greet tickets, allowing them to ask burning questions about their favourite TV show. It comes after reports Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set for new 'goldmine' offer - but could face issue. ‌ However, sources have claimed that bosses behind the production had "overestimated" the appeal for the show, which was due to take place in Manchester, Glasgow and London, had been left with no option but to cancel the entire tour. "The promoter massively over-estimated the appeal a live stage show would have to Hollyoaks' core audience," a source said. They went on to tell The Sun: "The ticket prices were incredibly high for a show that's popular with teenagers. ‌ "The decision was made to pull the tour rather than have a loss-making venture with empty theatres." But those who purchased tickets for the events will be offered refunds at their points of purchase. It's understood that the tour was organised by an external production team, with Hollyoaks and Channel 4 having very limited involvement in the planning. A spokesperson for the tour said in a statement: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned theatre events with Maple Tree Entertainment featuring Hollyoaks cast are not going to take place as planned. "We are sad to disappoint those who had purchased tickets but they will be refunded via the venues." However, it's a stark contrast for ITV soap, Coronation Street, which is going ahead with a live theatre tour. ‌ Long standing cast members from the Manhcester based soap opera will appear at theatres across the nation to discuss their time on the show, in a production which has been billed An Audience with Coronation Street. Fans will pay more than £30 with the promoters promising "behind-the-scenes secrets, share hilarious stories, and relive heart-warming moments from the iconic ITV show". Hosted by This Morning's resident soap expert, Sharon Marshall, the show promises to be filled with laughter, nostalgia, and "more than a few jaw-dropping surprises!" ‌ Each event will feature five Coronation Street stars live on stage, including a surprise Corrie legend. The line-up will vary at each venue, with fan-favourite cast members including Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), with more names to be announced soon. Additionally, former show legends will also appear on stage. The tour will start in September and includes dates in London, Sheffield, Manchester and Glasgow. Promoters say in the first half, the audience will be treated to an intimate and lively interview session with some of Corrie's most beloved cast members. Ever wondered what goes on between takes? Curious about those off-screen friendships and real-life dramas? This is your chance to hear all the gossip straight from the source. The second act will feature a Corrie legend who will appear on stage and talk about their time on the ITV show.
