How open is the Buccaneers' Super Bowl window ahead of the 2025 season?

USA Today25-07-2025
For the past five years, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a postseason fixture.
Now, entering the 2025 season, the question is no longer whether they're good. It's whether they're great enough to win another Super Bowl. And, just as importantly, how long their window to do so might stay open.
The short answer is yes; the window is still open. But it's not wide, and it may not be for long.
What keeps the window cracked is stability and stars. Baker Mayfield has emerged as a reliable franchise quarterback, playing the best football of his career under the Buccaneers' system. He's under contract through 2026. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin Jr. remain one of the most productive wide receiver duos in the league, and the offense returns all 11 starters for 2025.
If new coordinator Josh Grizzard can maintain offensive efficiency, Tampa Bay should again be in the top tier of NFC offenses. Defensively, the Bucs have made smart moves to remain competitive. Antoine Winfield Jr. is in his prime. Vita Vea anchors the line. Veteran Haason Reddick was signed to help with edge pressure. And in the 2025 draft, they added young difference-makers in Jacob Parrish, Elijah Roberts, and Benjamin Morrison, hoping to accelerate a soft transition on that side of the ball.
But here's the catch: many of the players keeping the window open are aging, nearing the end of their contracts, or both. Lavonte David is on what may be his final deal. Evans is signed through this season, but his long-term future is uncertain. And Mayfield, while currently cost-effective, could quickly shift into high-end cap territory if his performance justifies it.
Financial flexibility will be tested by 2026. Roster turnover is inevitable. And unless young players like Cade Otton and Emeka Egbuka take star-level steps, the talent gap between Tampa Bay and elite NFC teams could widen. So yes, the Super Bowl window is still open, but it depends on how well the Bucs draft, manage the cap, and develop a new generation of Buccaneers.

Report: Bettors are praying on the Saints' downfall more than any other team

These aren't the type of headlines you want to be reading in August, but it's where the New Orleans Saints are. An offseason of upheaval and several unconvincing seasons have forced the team into a rebuild they never wanted to engage. They have a new head coach with new assistants at almost every position group. They don't have a franchise quarterback. That might be the recipe for landing the top pick in the 2026 NFL draft. And that's a possibility bettors are buying in on. While the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants are also in the mix for teams expected to very, very bad this year, it's New Orleans drawing the most attention on the betting market. Per Mike Florio of NBC Sports, who cites data from DraftKings, "The Saints have drawn 46 percent of the bets and 52 percent of the handle. The Browns, in contrast, have 12 percent of the bets and 13 percent of the handle. The Giants, at 6-1, has 11 percent of the bets and 12 percent of the handle." Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is a proud man. The teams he's built have never lost enough games to pick first overall, and New Orleans hasn't picked top-five since 2006, after the Hurricane Katrina-impacted 2005 season ended with a 3-13 finish. His squad has only picked top-ten three times in his 22-year tenure as GM. But this year's forecast is dire. Kellen Moore is unproven as a head coach. Spencer Rattler didn't win any of his seven games last year but has clearly been a better option to start than 26-year old rookie Tyler Shough. The defense Dennis Allen built looked old and slow last season, and D.A. isn't around to call plays anymore. And the Saints face an exceptionally difficult start to the season. Their first four games include a road contest with the Buffalo Bills, Super Bowl favorites in the AFC, as well as three tough NFC West teams: at home against the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers, with a coast-to-coast trip to see the Seattle Seahawks. A 1-3 or 0-4 start isn't unlikely. Mathematically, very few teams start 0-2 and qualify for the playoffs. Losing most or all of those first four games might mean digging too deep of a hole for the Saints to climb back out of. And as we've seen here, a lot of bettors are counting on that being the case. It's on Moore and the team he's assembled this summer to prove them wrong.

49ers Land Surprising Odds in Micah Parsons Trade Sweepstakes

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The 2025 NFL season is coming up quickly, but Micah Parsons has stirred up the rumor mill in a huge way. After publicly requesting a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, plenty of speculation has been rising. One team viewed as a potential contender to acquire Parsons is the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, the 49ers missed the playoffs. Just two years ago, they made a run to the Super Bowl before being defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs. San Francisco wants to get back to the big game and win it. Making a blockbuster move to pair Parsons with Nick Bosa would be a huge step in that direction. San Francisco landed tied at No. 5 with the Arizona Cardinals. What Are the Odds for Micah Parsons' Next Team? Cowboys -300 Eagles +1000 Patriots +1000 Chargers +1500 Cardinals +1600 49ers +1600 Rams +1800 Panthers +2200 Jets +2500 Raiders +2500 Parsons would give the 49ers an even more intimidating defense. With Robert Saleh back in town as the team's defensive coordinator, San Francisco is hoping to get back to their defense-first mentality from a few years back. During the 2024 NFL season with the Cowboys, Parsons dealt with some injury issues and played in 13 games. He still racked up 43 total tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a defended pass. In 2023 with a full 17-game season, he racked up 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defended passes. Read more: Vikings Reveal Major J.J. McCarthy News Before Preseason Opener At 26 years old, Parsons would be a long-term pickup for the 49ers. He wouldn't come cheap, but he would be well worth the investment that it would take to get him. There is still a chance that Dallas refuses to trade Parsons and that the two sides work out a long-term extension. However, if he does force his way out from the Cowboys, San Francisco should be one of the teams trying to make an aggressive move for him. Expect to hear more news about Parsons in the near future. With his trade request now officially out in public, the rumors and speculation will continue gaining steam. For more on the San Francisco 49ers and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Sean Payton says Broncos can win Super Bowl, and he expects Bo Nix to become a top-5 QB

Sean Payton has big expectations for the Denver Broncos in 2025. After going 10-7 with a rookie quarterback in 2024 and qualifying for the playoffs as a Wild Card team, Payton expects quarterback Bo Nix and the entire squad to take a big leap forward this fall. 'The short-term goal is winning the division,' Payton said in a recent interview with Yahoo's Charles Robinson. 'But this is a team capable of winning the Super Bowl. I've coached six teams that I thought could win the Super Bowl. Some went to championship games, some to the playoffs. This is my seventh team that I think has that.' Denver had one of the best defenses in the NFL last season, led by cornerback Pat Surtain, the league's Defensive Player of the Year. This offseason, they added linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga during free agency and used their first-round draft pick to select cornerback Jahdae Barron. On offense, the Broncos' main weakness in 2024 was the ground game, and that should be improved this year after the team signed veteran running back J.K. Dobbins and used a second-round pick to add RJ Harvey. And, of course, Nix appears poised to take the next step after impressing as a rookie. 'He's going to be one of the top four or five quarterbacks in the league the next two years,' Payton told Robinson. 'That's what we're seeing right now. He doesn't take sacks. He's got exceptional arm strength. … He threw the longest ball — [67] air yards against Cincinnati. He can run. He can throw in funny body angles.' Nix topped 4,200 yards from scrimmage last fall and scored 34 total touchdowns and only took 24 sacks. Payton seems to think the QB will take a big leap over the next two seasons, and the coach has set Super Bowl expectations for his roster going into the 2025 campaign.
