PM Modi to inaugurate last segment of Metro 3 in August: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis
Describing Metro Line 3 as an 'engineering marvel,' Mr. Fadnavis said the project overcame significant geological and logistical challenges during its execution. 'We came from under the Mithi River and have built metro stations in congested areas like Girgaon. Only two stations remain, and once completed, Line 3 will be fully operational,' he said.
Following the inauguration, Mr. Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde undertook a ride on the newly completed stretch. The 9.77-km segment, comprising six stations, received safety clearance earlier this week from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety. It will be opened to the public from Saturday.
The Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor (Metro Line 3) is the first fully underground metro project in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The first phase, linking Aarey to BKC, became operational in October 2024. The final stretch, from Acharya Atre Chowk to Colaba (Phase 2B), spans 10.99 km and includes 11 stations, ultimately connecting Cuffe Parade to the city's central business districts.
'Since 2022, we have accelerated the execution of all metro lines. By next year, 50 km of new lines will be added, followed by another 50 km the year after, significantly enhancing public transport in the MMR,' Mr. Fadnavis said.
According to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (MMRCL), the fully operational Line 3 is expected to serve approximately 13 lakh passengers daily, with each eight-coach train accommodating up to 2,500 commuters. Since its launch, the Aarey-BKC stretch has recorded a cumulative ridership of over 41.6 lakh, with a daily average of 20,030 passengers.
Seamless connectivity amid urban challenges
The newly inaugurated section connects key commercial hubs such as BKC and Worli with cultural landmarks including Siddhivinayak Temple, Mahim Dargah, Mahim Church, Shivaji Park, and several prominent theatres. The estimated travel time across the stretch is 15 minutes.
The construction faced multiple hurdles, including complex tunnelling under rocky terrain, coastal regulation clearances, traffic management in dense urban areas, land acquisition, and permissions for mangrove and tree felling. Officials stated that despite these constraints, the corridor promises to alleviate congestion along the Western Express Highway and suburban railway lines, while enhancing multimodal connectivity in Mumbai.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 clock 200 million rides in 39 months
Mumbai: Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 recorded more than 200 million passenger journeys since their launch in April 2022, according to data shared by Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The milestone was reached in just over three years of operations, with current daily ridership averaging over three lakh. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said the numbers reflected a shift in how Mumbai commutes. "The 200 million ridership milestone proves that the people of Mumbai have embraced the Metro as their trusted companion," he said. The two elevated corridors—Line 2A from Dahisar (West) to Andheri (West), and Line 7 from Dahisar (East) to Gundavali—were introduced to ease congestion on the city's western arterial roads and rail networks. Officials say steady improvements in service frequency, punctuality, and integration have contributed to the increase in ridership. Deputy chief Mminister Eknath Shinde said, "This isn't just a mobility achievement—it's a quality-of-life transformation. With every Metro ride, we move closer to our vision of a connected Mumbai, where no citizen is left behind." Rubal Agarwal, managing director, MMMOCL, said, "Our operational teams work round the clock to ensure safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. We're now focusing on the next frontier—enhancing service frequency, onboarding digital ticketing tools, and ensuring last-mile connectivity." Metropolitan commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee called the 200 million mark a strong validation of the agency's efforts. "A consistent monthly growth of 4–5% in ridership reflects how Mumbaikars are steadily opting for smarter travel choices. This is not just a number. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now It reflects how well-executed projects can change a city's transport narrative," he said. MMRDA officials said the ridership trend on these lines will help guide future planning, with several upcoming corridors expected to transform east-west and north-south connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Key milestones on the lines were reached on April 2, 2022, when the lines recorded 19,451 passengers on a single day; on Jan 27, 2023, when total journeys hit one crore (10 million); on May 28, 2024, when the 10 crore (100 million) mark was reached; on Jan 4, 2025, the number reached 15 crore (150 million), on July 8, 2025, a record three-lakh-plus passengers travelled on the lines in a single day; in Aug 2025, the network crossed 200 million total journeys.

Tesla To Open 2nd India Showroom In Delhi's Aerocity On August 11
New Delhi: Tesla is set to expand its presence in India's electric vehicle market with the launch of its second retail outlet in the country. The new Tesla Experience Centre will open on August 11 at Aerocity's upscale Worldmark 3 complex in the national capital, catering to customers in the national capital region -- a key hub for India's electric mobility push. This opening comes less than a month after Tesla inaugurated its first showroom in Mumbai on July 15 at the Maker Maxity mall in Bandra Kurla Complex. The high-profile Mumbai launch was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who praised Tesla's entry into the state and invited the company to set up R&D and manufacturing facilities there. The Aerocity facility, currently in the final stages of construction, is expected to command a monthly rent of around Rs 25 lakh. Images of the nearly completed outlet have already surfaced on social media -- highlighting the brand's premium positioning in India. Tesla is presently offering one model in the Indian market -- the Model Y -- priced from Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two versions: a standard rear-wheel drive with a 60 kWh battery offering a WLTP-certified range of 500 km, and a long-range rear-wheel drive variant with a 75 kWh battery delivering up to 622 km on a single charge. Deliveries will be prioritised for buyers in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, with vehicles transported on flat-bed trucks directly to customers' homes. The company has also updated its website to allow vehicle registration across all states and union territories, expanding access beyond its initial launch cities. While Tesla lists its full self-driving (FSD) feature as an optional extra for Rs 6 lakh, the advanced capability will be introduced in India at a later stage. The debut of Tesla's Indian website coincided with the Model Y launch -- signalling the company's readiness to scale operations despite challenges in EV infrastructure and policy.
