Bahrain Showcases Leadership in Empowering Women and Youth

Bahrain continues to take bold steps in empowering women and youth under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, said MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, during his participation in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva. Speaking at a panel titled 'Women and Youth Participation in Parliament in Times of Polarization and Crisis', Salman highlighted Bahrain's success in creating a strong constitutional and legal framework that guarantees women's rights and supports youth engagement in national development. He noted that King Hamad's comprehensive reform project transformed this vision into practical policies and initiatives, ensuring fairness in opportunities, equality in rights, and active participation in public life. Over the years, Bahrain has continued to enhance its legislation to solidify the role of women and youth in society. The MP pointed to key milestones in Bahrain's journey, including the election of a female Speaker of the Council of Representatives during the fifth legislative term. He also highlighted the growing presence of women, particularly young leaders, in vital sectors such as health, sustainable development, tourism, and housing—evidence that empowerment in Bahrain has moved from a slogan to a lived reality. Salman praised Bahrain's model of combining political empowerment with institutional support and a conscious political will that views women and youth not as marginal groups, but as trusted partners in shaping the nation's future. He emphasized that Bahrain's parliament has launched several initiatives to amplify youth voices, including continuous dialogue, institutional support for their proposals, and legislative mechanisms that reflect their aspirations. During the global conference, Salman called on parliaments worldwide to strengthen constitutional, legal, and political guarantees for the participation of women and youth, describing them as true partners in policymaking, decision-making, and maintaining social stability. He stressed that empowering these groups is not a symbolic gesture, but a strategic necessity for sustainable stability and broader public participation in an era of growing challenges.
