Virgin River Star Hints at Major Change for Mel in Season 7: ‘I Wonder Why…'
When Virgin River returns for Season 7, Mel is ditching her flannel tops and cozy sweaters for a very different look — scrubs!
Alexandra Breckenridge posted an on-set story to Instagram on Monday, where she gave eager viewers a sneak peek at what her character will be up to in the near future, and it raises more questions than it answers.

'Is there something different about me today that you've noticed?' Breckenridge says in the video. 'Something… scrub-like? I wonder why Alex could be wearing scrubs. I wonder what's going on. I guess you're just going to have to wait until Season 7 to find out, won't you? She's getting her nurse on!'
So, what does all of this mean? Mel has worked as a nurse practitioner since Virgin River premiered in 2019, but she tends to dress pretty casually on the job, rarely (if ever) rocking scrubs. I'm thinking there are two possibilities here: With Doc's practice now under investigation, it's possible that Season 7 will find Mel seeking employment at another medical facility, maybe even working as a nurse at the hospital in Clear River.
But since I don't want anything to take the residents of Virgin River away from the titular locale, my preferred possibility is that Mel is scrubbing in to assist with the birth of Marley's baby — you know, the one she wants Mel and Jack to adopt? If that's the case, Breckenridge just gave fans a sneak peek at a major milestone in her and Jack's relationship.
Beyond that, we'll just have to listen to Breckenridge and wait until Season 7 comes out for official confirmation. It's still anyone's guess when that will be, but Breckenridge suggested that it could be as early as this year. (My money's still on 2026, but I like her optimism!)
What do you think these scrubs mean for Mel's future? A new job? A new baby? Drop a comment with your best guesses and biggest hopes below.

Modern Family star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons has brought back her famous Lily audio to come out as bisexual. Fans loved the iconic usage of the audio as the eighteen-year-old artist announced her sexuality to the world. Aubrey Anderson-Emmons embraced her Modern Family character's iconic line in real life. The actress, who played Lily Tucker-Pritchett in the iconic ABC sitcom, announced she's bisexual in an Instagram reel celebrating Pride Month. Using audio from Lily's memorable 'I am gay' scene, Anderson-Emmons told followers, 'People keep joking so much about me being gay when I literally am (I'm bi).' It is a sentimental occasion for many viewers who watched Anderson-Emmons grow up on the beloved ABC sitcom from 2011 to 2020. Gushing over the reel-to-reel legacy of Modern Family, a fan commented on IG, 'Coming out to this audio is truly iconic.' Another echoed the emotion, saying, 'Mitch and Cam are gonna be so proud.' A Reddit user summarized the Modern Family fandom's feelings, noting, 'I can just imagine this episode of Modern Family and Cam somehow quietly squealing, crying of happiness and support, while Mitchell fidgets with excitement. Happy Pride, Aubrey!' Anderson-Emmons made her acting debut at the age of three when she joined the Modern Family's Season 3 cast in 2011. Within a year of her TV debut, she made history as the youngest nominee and recipient of a Screen Actors Guild Award. File Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo June 17 (UPI) -- Steve Martin and Alison Brown performed their single "5 Days Out, 2 Days Back" with Tim O'Brien on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday. Martin, 79, played the banjo with Brown, while O'Brien sang and performed on the mandolin. The group performed in front of a country road backdrop as O'Brien sang about how the guitar had been a "northern star." Martin wrote the song, which was released March 28. "Martin's lyrics tell a story familiar to all touring musicians of balancing life on the road with the pull of loved ones at home," an official synopsis reads. The song was released alongside a music video that shows clips of highways and snippets of the artists performing together. Martin posted a photo of himself and Brown with a smiling Kimmel on Instagram. "Stern-faced me and Alison Brown on Kimmel tonight," he captioned the image. "I lightened up eventually." Martin and Brown will release a collection of songs later this year. In addition to his music, Martin stars with Martin Short and Selena Gomez on the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. Martin discussed the show in his interview with Kimmel, confirming that filming has finished on Season 5.
