Directed and written by Pandiraj, the emotional drama about two passionate yet conflicted lovers collected Rs 4.15 crore (India net) on its opening day, according to early estimates reported by Sacnilk.
Tamil audiences show up in large numbers
On its release day, Friday, July 25, 'Thalaivan Thalaivii' reportedly recorded an overall 47.00% occupancy across Tamil Nadu.
Morning shows saw an occupancy of 30.14%. It steadily climbed to 41.95% in the afternoon, 46.54% in the evening. The occupancy peaked to 69.38% during the night shows.

Chennai leads with highest turnout
Chennai led with the highest occupancy at 60.50%, with night shows in the city hitting 84%. Other cities such as Madurai (49.25%), Coimbatore (43.75%), and Pondicherry (39.25%) followed closely.
Bengaluru, while slightly lower at 33.75%, still showed encouraging numbers with a notable increase during evening and night shows.

71st NTBR mascot unveiled
Kottayam: The lucky mascot for the 71st Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR), featuring a rowing 'Kakka Thampuratti', was unveiled by minister Veena George and actor Kalidas Jayaram at an event in Alappuzha on Saturday. The race will take place on Aug 30 at Punnamada Lake. The emblem, depicting 'Kakka Thampuratti' rowing a boat, was created by S Anupama from Vattayal, Alappuzha. Fefka, SAMAM seek police action against Vinayakan
Kochi: Film Employees Federation of Kerala (Fefka) and Malayalam playback singers' organisation SAMAM have demanded police action against actor Vinayakan, who hurled abuses at singer K J Yesudas in a Facebook post recently. Though the award-winning actor removed the post, criticism has been widespread against him from various quarters since then. Strongly condemning Vinayakan's post, the Fefka music directors' union demanded strict legal action against him for "insulting Yesudas publicly". "Despite coming from a challenging social and economic background, Yesudas rose to become a revered figure in music. Insulting such a great artist is a disgraceful act," said a statement by the union. "Beyond film songs, Yesudas is celebrated for popularising Carnatic music. His contributions to music are invaluable, having sung in almost every Indian language. Every Malayali takes pride in Yesudas and no artist can tolerate hearing him being insulted publicly," it said. SAMAM also issued a statement against Vinayakan on Saturday.
