Aamir Khan opens up about naming his dog Shah Rukh, calls it a childish phase

India Today01-07-2025
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has addressed one of the most controversial moments from his past - the time he jokingly said he had named his dog 'Shah Rukh'. The remark, which had sparked outrage and fuelled rumours of a feud with Shah Rukh Khan, is now something Aamir looks back on as part of a 'childish' phase. In a recent interview, he spoke about how their once-tense relationship has mellowed into friendship over the years.advertisementSpeaking to India Today's sister channel, The Lallantop, Aamir said, 'Actually ek period tha jab Shah Rukh aur main ek dusre ke liye kaafi kuch bol rahe the. Shayad woh naakhush the mujhse (Actually, there was a time when Shah Rukh and I used to say quite a lot about each other. Maybe he was unhappy with me,) because I don't talk about others in my interviews. Anyway, let's leave all that behind. Shah Rukh is a good friend of mine. When our careers started, there was natural competition between us. But that faded away 10–15 years ago, at least from my side, and I think from his side as well. It was childish behaviour.'He added, 'Shah Rukh aksar mujhpe mazak karta rehta hain naa har saal jab award function hota hai, main toh jaata nahi hoon. Toh har saal mazak woh mujhpe karte rehte hain (Shah Rukh often jokes about me every year during award functions, since I don't attend them. So every year, he keeps making fun of me.)' advertisement
Once seen as rivals with films like '3 Idiots' and My Name Is Khan releasing just months apart, the two stars now share a friendly bond. Aamir has even spoken about their off-screen camaraderie, often alongside Salman Khan. 'We often make plans to catch up, and we never stop at one drink. It's usually till morning, 7 am, not just with Salman but with Shah Rukh too. This has happened eight to 10 times till now,' he shared. While Aamir and Salman last worked together in the 1994 cult comedy 'Andaz Apna Apna', fans of Bollywood's three Khans have long hoped see the three together on screen. Aamir recently confirmed that conversations have taken place, and the trio is simply 'waiting for the right script' to bring that dream to life.- EndsTrending Reel

Shah Rukh Khan once ADMITTED he deserved National Award for 'Swades' over Saif Ali Khan's 'Hum Tum': 'I should have got it'

Shah Rukh Khan finally received the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in 'Jawan', ending a 33-year wait. Known as one of the biggest names in Hindi cinema, Shah Rukh had delivered several praised performances over the years. But despite his immense popularity and acting range, the National Award had always stayed just out of reach. Fans and critics have often said that Shah Rukh should have won the honour back in 2005 for his role in 'Swades'. However, the award that year went to Saif Ali Khan for his work in the romantic comedy 'Hum Tum'. Years later, a video that resurfaced on reddit showed Shah Rukh himself addressing it. Shah Rukh Khan addressed the snub In a video from a past event, Shah Rukh was on stage with director Kunal Kohli and anchor Mandira Bedi. Kunal asked him about his favourite films, and Shah Rukh answered in his usual witty and kind-hearted way. He said,"See, main dil ka bahut acha hoon. Saari filmein achi lagti hain, saare hero ache lagte hain, saari heroine achi lagti hain, har cheez achi lagti hai (I am good by heart. I like all films, all heroes, and all heroines). I am a simple-minded person; I like everything, including your films. I have loved them all." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 30 Beautiful women who lived 80-100 years ago Undo Khan praised Kohli's films during the chat Shah Rukh then complimented Kunal Kohli's work, especially 'Fanaa' and 'Hum Tum'. His actor won the National Award for Hum Tum when I think I should have got it, but that's another story." The long wait ended with 'Jawan' win In 2025, Shah Rukh finally won his first National Film Award for Best Actor for 'Jawan'.

Viewers split as Aamir Khan takes Sitaare Zameen Par to YouTube instead of OTT

Every time takes a professional call, it tends to split the crowd – fans, followers, and critics alike. His latest controversy? The YouTube release of Sitaare Zameen Par. At the time of its release, Aamir had stated his film would not be released on any OTT/digital platform. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now His stand was widely appreciated as it seemed to prioritise the larger interests of a struggling industry and audiences over his role as producer and actor. With the film doing well in multiplexes, he was felicitated for his seemingly charitable move. Cut to a press conference on July 30, Aamir announced that Sitaare Zameen Par would be released on YouTube under a pay-per-view model for just `100 and had apparently turned down a `100-crore offer from a streaming platform for the digital rights of his film. This decision has divided netizens and stakeholders on the ground. Some are accusing Aamir of misleading the audience and disrupting the industry's conventional release model: theatrical release first, followed by OTT for home viewing. Others are defending him, claiming YouTube is the original – and still the largest – OTT platform, and that offering the film as a paid title post-theatrical run is a bold, innovative step rather than a betrayal. Hansal Mehta in fact has lauded his approach, as it gives him greater 'creative control'. A timeline of Aamir's stance on OTT release March 9: Speaking against the prevailing OTT-first mentality, Aamir had said, 'We're telling our consumers that you can come and consume our product (film). If you don't, we'll bring it to you in eight weeks (through OTT platforms ), when it will be free of cost as you've already paid for it (through subscription). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now I don't know how to sell a product twice. Earlier, I used to watch movies because I had no option. Now, it's dependent on a fancy for films. So we've killed our own business model.' June 19: Multiplex Association of India (MAI) praised Aamir. 'Aamir Khan has always been a filmmaker who puts the audience first. His decision to bring Sitaare Zameen Par exclusively to cinemas is a significant show of confidence in theatres and the shared magic of the moviegoing experience. Indian exhibitors thank Aamir Khan for standing by theatres,' said Kamal Gianchandani, President of MAI. July 3: In response to his felicitation by theatre owners, Aamir told ANI,'Since I haven't sold the OTT rights and our film is not releasing on OTT, isliye shayad All India Theatre Owners have decided to felicitate me for the step that I have taken. I am happy that they thought about it.' July 30: Aamir apologised for the YouTube release at the press conference. For bypassing OTT giants, he said, 'When I release a film after 8 weeks on a subscription model, people aren't buying my film. They're only subscribing to the OTT platform. It wouldn't matter if a person wants to watch the film or doesn't after subscribing to the platform. It has always been my dream to reach every Indian at a reasonable price so they can afford it,' he added. On his YouTube strategy, he told PTI, 'This is my private cinema chain. Think of it like Aamir Khan Productions has opened a new cinema chain, which is in everyone's house and in everyone's pocket... And that is why I am doing this. I got good offers from OTT channels. But I don't want those ₹100–125 crore from OTT channels. I want to earn ₹100 from my audience. I prefer that more.'
