Report: Lloyd Howell charged NFLPA for strip club visits
ESPN reported Friday afternoon that an union-hired outside investigation into Howell found he submitted expense reports charging the union for two visits to strip clubs.
One report from November 2023 showed a charge of more than $700 for a car service that took Howell from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Tootsie's Cabaret – "the world's largest strip club spanning over 76,000 square feet," according to its website – in Miami Gardens around 10:30 p.m.
Howell reportedly hired the driver to "wait seven hours outside" before taking Howell back home to Sunny Isles Beach at 6 a.m., according to a receipt, as reported by ESPN.
NFL, NFLPA EXPLAINER: What to know about grievances, Lloyd Howell, next steps
Earlier this year, Howell again traveled to a strip club on the union's dime, ESPN reported.
This time, he and two employees visited Magic City in Atlanta as part of what the expense report called a "Player Engagement Event." He and the employees spent a reported $2,426 that night "including cash withdrawals, ranging from $200 to $525, from a club ATM," according to ESPN.
One expense report requested a reimbursement of $736 for charges for "secluded sections for our Player Members" – ESPN noted that the NFLPA visitors used two "VIP rooms" at Magic City – as well as food and alcoholic beverages. The names of the "Player Members" were kept off the report.
A former union employee reportedly told ESPN that strip clubs or other venues are not explicitly excluded from reimbursements.
"But I don't think anyone in their right mind would think that is an optically good scenario," the employee went on to say.
LLOYD HOWELL: NFLPA executive director resigns after multiple controversies
Howell's strip club activities – and tendency to charge the company card for it – are reportedly not a new phenomenon.
ESPN also reported that Howell had been investigated for a similar incident while at his prior employer, technology consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, in 2015.
The sports media company wrote that Howell attended a strip club in New York City that year with a senior vice president of the company. When the senior VP submitted an expense report seeking reimbursement for the "thousands of dollars" the two had spent at the club, Booz Allen fired the VP and reprimanded Howell.
The company promoted Howell to its chief financial officer position the following year.
Howell resigned from his position as the executive director of the NFLPA Wednesday night after just over two years serving in the role.
He said in a statement, "It's clear that my leadership has become a distraction to the important work the NFLPA advances every day. For this reason, I have informed the NFLPA Executive Committee that I am stepping down as Executive Director of the NFLPA and Chairman of the Board of NFL Players effective immediately.
"I hope this will allow the NFLPA to maintain its focus on its player members ahead of the upcoming season."

Cam Ward calls Titans offense 'very mid right now,' takes accountability for unit's training camp struggles
During Tennessee Titans training camp last week, Cam Ward made some awe-inspiring throws and said he believes his offense is capable of being one of the best in the NFL this season. This week, the rookie quarterback chose different words to describe his unit. "I just think we're very mid right now," Ward said Wednesday. "From my position, to up front, to the receiver position, but, at the end of the day, it all starts with me." Ward, this year's No. 1 overall pick, added: "I just don't think we're where we need to be. But we've got a little bit of time. Every day we get better as a whole. We're a young team. But that's no excuse." The Titans are young, and growing pains are inevitable for an organization that's rebuilding. Ward isn't exempt from those, either. Ward has thrown four interceptions over the past two practices, the first two padded practices of camp. His lone pick Wednesday stemmed from a quick pass over the middle that linebacker Cody Barton got a piece of, and that cornerback Roger McCreary ultimately intercepted, as detailed by multiple reports. On Tuesday, Ward was picked off three times. Timing and rhythm have been problematic for the offense. "I have to get on the same page with my receivers, watch more film and be more accurate with the football," Ward said, per ESPN's Turron Davenport. Work ethic isn't a problem for Ward, who arrives at the Titans facility at 5:30 every morning to watch tape. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah reported last week that Ward has already won over the Tennessee locker room. Nothing has come easy to Ward, anyway. He took the road less traveled to the NFL, making stops at Incarnate World and Washington State before putting up prolific numbers and nearly making the College Football Playoff in his lone season at Miami. A crafty playmaker, Ward can throw from a handful of arm slots, but that super power has recently created some issues for himself in training camp such as tipped passes and ricochets. He doesn't see it that way, though. "I actually think it's not even a learning point. I've been throwing sidearm since I was 6 years old," Ward said, per The Tennessean. "I had tipped balls when I was in high school. I had tipped balls when I was in college. I have tipped balls here in practice and I'm going to have tipped balls during the season. I'm not really worried about that, it's about how you bounce back the next play." Bouncing back will be critical for the Titans, not just for Ward or just in training camp but for the entire team the entire season. Tennessee is coming off a 3-14 season, after which general manager Ran Carthon was fired. The Titans hit the reset button, and Ward has to right — er, save — the sinking ship that was the Tennessee offense, a unit that averaged a meager 18.3 points per game in 2024. He's got the skill set to bump that average up significantly, even in Year 1. But he'll have to weather the storm that is adversity. So will the rest of an offense that's led by a rookie quarterback.

Ronald Acuña Jr. placed on IL with Achilles inflammation, could reportedly be back within 2-3 weeks
Atlanta Braves All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. was placed on the injured list Wednesday with Achilles inflammation in his right leg, a day after leaving a game early against the Kansas City Royals. The Braves announced his diagnosis shortly after his exit on Tuesday. After the game, manager Brian Snitker confirmed to reporters that Acuña would be placed on the 10-day injured list. He was seen in a walking boot after the game. Per Mark Bowman, an MRI revealed a Grade 1 calf strain for the outfielder, a diagnosis mild enough that he could be back within 2-3 weeks. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Acuña left the game with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquantino hit a fly ball to deep right-center field that Acuña couldn't reach. It bounced off the warning track and over the fence for a ground-rule RBI double that extended Kansas City's lead to 9-3. Acuña jogged from his spot in the outfield, then left to the Braves clubhouse with a trainer. The Royals held on for a 9-6 victory. Per multiple reports from the game, Acuña showed signs of discomfort prior to the play that preceded his exit. After the game, he said through an interpreter that he sustained the injury while running from first to home on a play the previous night, while wiping tears from his eyes multiple times: "I think it definitely got worse today. I told them yesterday and everyone said, 'Hey, take the day if you want it. You can take the day off,' but I've just missed so much time through injuries I don't want to miss any more time. "I was out there hoping they wouldn't hit it my way and of course when you do that, they always hit it your way." The injury is the latest in a stellar career that has been plagued by leg injuries. Acuña has sustained ACL tears in each of his knees — the right in 2021 and the left in 2024. In between, he won the 2023 MVP Award while leading the National League in hits, runs scored, stolen bases and on-base percentage. Injuries have limited Acuña to 82 games or fewer in three of his seven MLB seasons. He missed the first 49 games of this season while recovering from the ACL tear sustained last year. Despite the injuries, Acuña has been named an All-Star in five of his seven MLB seasons as one of the most versatile and gifted offensive players in baseball. He was also named Rookie of the Year in one of the two years he wasn't an All-Star. Acuña and the Braves are certainly hoping this latest setback won't require an extended stay on the injured list. With the 45-61 Braves 12.5 games out of the wild-card race as of the conclusion of Tuesday's game, there should be little motivation for the team to rush him back.
