Crash: River cut off to contain oil spill

LAHAD DATU: A 39-year-old man was injured after his tanker was involved in an accident at Jalan Sabahan along Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau, here, Thursday. District Fire and Rescue Chief Sumsoa Rashid said his department received a distress call on the incident at 9.03am. A team of Fire and Rescue personnel was deployed to the scene in two fire engines and an EMRS vehicle. 'Upon arrival, the team reported that a tanker loaded with 10,000 litres of petrol was involved in an accident. 'The driver who was conscious and injured was on the road shoulder and given initial treatment before being handed over to the Ministry of Health for further action,' he said. According to Sumsoa, the accident resulted in leaking and spillage of petrol on the tanker. The team carried out zoning at the location, about 100 feet from the tanker, as well as foam spray of the entire tanker. The spilled petrol had flowed towards a nearby pond and the team contacted the tanker's company for further action. The operation was assisted by two heavy machines - a backhoe and an excavator - from the Pan Borneo contractor. The heavy machinery closed the small river to control the spill and stabilised the tanker to avoid continuous petrol spillage. According to the AGC, the circulation of unverified information and images related to the student, which are connected to the ongoing investigation by the authorities, could lead to public confusion. 'The dissemination of such content could potentially disrupt the smooth and effective progress of the investigation by the relevant authorities,' it said in a statement. The AGC also noted that it received the full preliminary investigation report on the case at its Sabah branch on Aug 3, and at its headquarters in Putrajaya on Aug 4. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on July 17. AGC returns preliminary investigation report on Zara Qairina's case to police

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the report was resubmitted yesterday along with specific instructions on several matters that still require investigation. Advertisement 'We have provided certain instructions, meaning there are aspects that need to be further compiled. I cannot disclose the details at this stage as the investigation is still ongoing, but some matters need to be completed. 'I also cannot confirm at this point whether actions such as a post-mortem or inquest will be conducted to investigate the cause of the victim's death,' he told reporters after a special ceremony to celebrate Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh's appointment as Chief Justice at the Putrajaya Palace of Justice here today. Last Monday (August 5), the AGC announced that it had received the full preliminary investigation report on the case on Aug 4, a day after the report was submitted to its Sabah Branch office.
