Perlis MB loses in bid for Arau Pas chief post
Two state executive councillors in Shukri's state administration also failed in the race for the deputy division chief and vice chief positions.
The biggest shock came with the defeat of Shukri, who is also the state Pas commissioner in a straight fight with Solahudin Azmi.
He garnered only 43 votes, while Solahudin secured 128 votes.
For the deputy division chief position, the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman, Mohd Ridzuan Hashim, who is also Guar Sanji asemblyman, won comfortably with 135 votes, defeating the incumbent and current Perlis state State Assembly speaker, Rus'ele Eizan, who received just 34 votes.
In the contest for vice division chief position, the state Agriculture, Plantations and Consumer Affairs Commitee chairman Razali Saad, was defeated after receiving only 39 votes compared to the incumbent Mohd Yusairi Mansor, who won with 130 votes.
The Arau Pas division held its annual general meeting today, with participation from 173 delegates representing 60 branches.
In his speech, Solahudin expressed gratitude for being re-elected to the position.
"This outcome reflects the delegates' confidence in the current leadership team, and it does not diminish the significant contributions of state leaders in steering the administration based on Islamic principles and collective leadership.
"Losing in this election doesn't imply a rejection of the state government's leadership, but rather it's a normal process within Pas' mature political culture.
"The fact that there was competition in this election proves that Pas practises genuine grassroots democracy," he said.
He added that the defeat of several state leaders should not be interpreted as a sign of rejection.
"Instead, it offers an opportunity to further strengthen each leader's role within the leadership ranks.
"What's more important is that those elected must now shoulder the great responsibility of leading the community," he added.
As for the Kangar Pas division, its annual general meeting is scheduled for June 28, where a contest is expected between the incumbent chief, Yussaine Yahya, and Senator Baharudin Ahmad.
Meanwhile, in Padang Besar, the upcoming annual meeting on June 22 is also drawing attention as the incumbent chief, Saad Seman will be challenged by fellow state Exco member Muhammad Azmir Azizan.

Asyraf should replace Fadhlina as education minister, says PAS MP
Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden addressing the press conference at Parliament today. On the left is Sabah PAS secretary Aliakbar Gulasan. (YouTube pic) PETALING JAYA : Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki should replace Fadhlina Sidek as education minister, as she has failed to adequately address bullying issues in schools, said Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden. Referring to the case in Melaka last month, Afnan said Asyraf was quick to expel six students from a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) after they were found to be involved in bullying. 'I think he should be the education minister. The only issue is that he has not won (a parliamentary seat),' Malaysiakini quoted the PAS MP as saying at a press conference in Parliament today. 'I pray that he will win in the upcoming elections so that he can replace the education minister.' The six students from a Melaka MRSM were not the first to be kicked out after being implicated in a bullying incident. In April, seven students at an MRSM in Penang were expelled for bullying a fellow resident, and two months later, six students who bullied a 14-year-old student at an MRSM in Besut, Terengganu, were also expelled. Commenting on public concern over the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir, Afnan said parents are increasingly worried about sending their children to school, and are losing trust in the educational institutions. 'The education minister has given assurances that our schools are safe, but the public does not want verbal assurances alone (as) the situation has become severe, with many bullying cases occurring in our schools,' he said. Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after she allegedly fell from the third floor of her school's hostel in Papar, Sabah. She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital the following day. A post-mortem has been completed after her body was exhumed. Several demonstrations were held across Sabah to demand justice for Zara.

RM700 monthly salary for teachers at PAS preschools violates minimum wage rule, says Nik Nazmi
KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher has criticised the RM600 to RM700 monthly salaries reportedly paid to around 9,500 teachers at PAS-operated preschools, saying the wages are in clear violation of the national minimum wage law. Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PH-Setiawangsa) said the justification that Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) teachers were volunteers was unacceptable as it is not in line with regulations under the National Wages Consultative Council (Amendment) Act 2025. "Among the attractions, besides promoting Islamic education, are the low fees. "However, there have been many complaints about Pasti not adhering to aspects such as the syllabus and teacher's remuneration," he said during the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Aug 11). The Human Resources Ministry had announced that the Minimum Wage Order 2024 took effect on Aug 1, 2025, setting a minimum wage of RM1,700 per month for employers with fewer than five employees not engaged in professional activities classified under the Malaysian Standard Classification of Occupations 2020. Nik Nazmi also urged the government to consolidate existing government-run preschool services – currently managed separately by the Education Ministry, Community Development Department (Kemas) and the National Unity Department – into a more streamlined national programme. He added that the practice also denied the teachers contributions to the Employees Provident Fund and Social Security Organisation. In response, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) said that although the teachers' salaries are low, other allowances were provided despite them working only four hours a day. Nik Nazmi also welcomed the government's plan to make pre-school compulsory at the age of five and to focus on providing facilities in rural areas.

PH MP says Pas preschool teacher salaries violate minimum wage law
KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher has criticised the low salaries of RM600 to RM700 a month paid to over 9,500 teachers at preschools run by the Islamic party Pas, calling it a clear breach of the minimum wage law. Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PH-Setiawangsa) said the justification that Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) teachers were volunteers was unacceptable, as it contradicts the National Wages Consultative Council (Amendment) Act 2025. He added that the practice also denied the teachers contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Social Security Organisation (Perkeso). "If the volunteer excuse is used, every company could simply claim their workers are volunteers, thus not subject to the minimum wage order," he said during the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in the Dewan Rakyat today. In response, Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (PN-Bachok) said that although the teachers' salaries are low, other allowances were provided despite them working only four hours a day. He then asked if Nik Nazmi agreed that Pasti helps reduce the government's fiscal burden since it does not use public funds.
