Nuggets' Cam Johnson details how he got traded from Suns to Nets
"That's what happened when I got traded from Phoenix to Brooklyn. It was my little brother that called me and then my dad and then my girlfriend at the time was like, "Oh my god." That's all she said," Johnson said during a recent appearance on "The Young Man and The Three" podcast. Johnson was one of the players that came to the Nets as a result of Brooklyn trading Kevin Durant to the Suns.
"I'm like, "Huh," because I wasn't on Twitter. Like, I didn't have Twitter," Johnson continued. "So, it was just like I didn't hear about it until they called me and said, "You got traded." I'm like, "Are y'all joking?" Like it's 1:30 in the morning. But, this one I got a heads up on prior to and and that's appreciated. It's not like it means the entire world, but it is definitely appreciated."
Johnson was traded to the Nets along with guard Mikal Bridges, four first-round picks (forward Noah Clowney was taken with the 2023 first-round pick), and a first-round pick swap in 2028. Johnson came to Brooklyn and played some of the best basketball of his career, including the 2024-25 season in which he averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 47.5% from the field and 39.0% from three-point land.
While Nets general manager Sean Marks took his time trading Johnson in the midst of the trade rumors swirling around him throughout all of last season, the former North Carolina Tar Heel was finally traded to Denver. In return, Brooklyn received forward Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick that could prove to be one of the most valuable future picks that a team can have.

Baylor loses RB Dawson Pendergrass to injury ahead of season opener vs. Auburn
The Baylor Bears suffered a major injury blow before their season opener against the Auburn Tigers later this month. reports that Baylor running back Dawson Pendergrass has sustained a season-ending foot injury three weeks before the Bears begin the 2025 season against Auburn. Baylor head coach Dave Aranda called the injury a "misfortune" and shared that Pendergrass' injury will require surgery. Pendergrass was projected to be the No. 2 back in Baylor's offense this season, but is considered to be a "1-2 punch" alongside the assumed starter Bryson Washington. The duo combined to rush for 1,699 yards last season with 18 touchdowns. Individually, Pendergrass added 671 yards and six scores to the total. According to Pro Football Focus data, Pendergrass gained 399 yards after contact last season while boosting 14 carries of over 10 yards, and 33 touches resulting in first downs. Washington will remain the Bears' projected starting running back. Still, it is assumed that freshman Caden Knighten and redshirt freshman Joseph Dodds will pick up the production that Pendergrass was expected to carry this season. Knighten was the No. 30 running back of the 2025 recruiting cycle, and Dodds redshirted last season after suffering an injury of his own. Baylor lost a pair of running backs, Dominic Richardson and Richard Reese, to the transfer portal last offseason, the duo each produced over 1,000 yards during their time in Waco. Aranda and the Bears will have just under three weeks to adjust their offensive game plan before taking the field for the first time in 2025. Auburn and Baylor will square off on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. CT. Former Bruin shines for Indianapolis Colts in NFL preseason debut
Indianapolis Colts cornerback and former UCLA Bruin Alex Johnson made a jaw-dropping interception. The big play came on his first pass against the Baltimore Ravens in an NFL preseason game on the league's first full weekend of action. Alex Johnson was undrafted in 2024. He signed with the New York Giants until he was released. He then signed with the Colts' practice squad on October 5, 2024. The undrafted cornerback had his first live-action appearance for the Colts. He intercepted a pass near the right sideline to get his teammates hyped for the NFL season. Veteran backup quarterback Cooper Rush started the game for the Ravens. He threw a quick pass to the right sideline for wide receiver Dayton Wade, but Johnson was ready. The speedy cornerback ran in stride with Wade, both players getting hands on one another, but Johnson saw the ball was headed toward them. The former Bruin shifted his body and caught the ball with one hand before he fell to the ground. In the game the Colts eventually lost, 24-16, Johnson had 2 more pass deflections and one more tackle, according to ESPN. In Pro Football Focus's rankings of the best players on the Colts from the preseason game, Alex Johnson was ranked No. 1 with a 94.9 rating, according to Colts Wire. According to Colts Wire, the 24-year-old was listed as the backup nickelback on the unofficial roster provided by the Colts on Aug. 4. On July 8, Paul Bretl of Colts Wire wrote Johnson was likely to be a practice squad player, but after a season ending injury to rookie cornerback Justin Walley, he now has him making the roster on his article projecting the 53-man roster after the preseason game. If he continues to be a ballhawk in the preseason it would continue to increase his chances of making the team, but if he for some reason does not make the 53-man roster, he will have a chance to make it on another team's roster.
