The ‘Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake' Is Real, And New Images Look Spectacular
There seems to be some confusion about whether reports are real that Microsoft is about to shadow drop what should be a high profile Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake next week.
Yes, it's real. You may not believe one source, but how about five, six? And from highly reputable sources and outlets. Well, that's where we are now. The list of confirmations is now:
And most recently Eurogamer, probably the biggest name so far, which has come out to say this about a recent gallery of leaked image files from the game 'Eurogamer has corroborated that these files - and there are more here collected on imgur - are currently being hosted on Virtuos' servers (for now).' Those pictures are more than the ones we've seen previously.
I'm still not going to download and post them here (just embed), lest the wrath of Microsoft suddenly decide to descend, but probably not as we are allegedly just a few days away from the release, a terribly kept secret that the game is releasing on April 21, or thereabouts.
This would have been a cool shadow drop, I suppose, but we knew since docs were released in the Microsoft court case that this was in development, and things have clearly been leaky since the start of 2025 with sources ranging from Microsoft to Bethesda to Virtuous, it seems.

I've marked this a few times now, but it's always worth reminding people that A) this is being completely remade in Unreal Engine 5, which is why it looks so good, and B) there are a number of quality of life changes coming which include:
The HUD – Meant to be easier to understand for new players
Stamina – Meant to be less frustrating and for players to be knocked down less when its depleted
Hit Reactions – Meant to improve combat on both the player and enemy side
Blocking – Meant to be 'inspired by Souls-like games'
Sneaking – Meant to have sneak icons more highlighted
Archery – Meant to make it 'modern' for third and first person play (Stealth Archer, here we come).
I expect there to be more past that, even if they're minor as again, this is remaking a 20 year old game. A remaster? Maybe not. But a full remake? Yes, there are going to be some significant changes here. I'm wondering specifically about faces and facial animations, which aren't seen here. See you in a few days.

Xbox Rolls Back Price Following Fan Pushback
Summary In a significant victory for consumer advocacy,Xboxhas officially reversed its controversial decision to price upcoming first-party titles at $80 USD. Following widespread backlash from the gaming community,Microsoftconfirmed today that its full-priced holiday releases, including the highly anticipatedThe Outer Worlds 2,will now launch at $69.99 USD, aligning with current market conditions. The initial announcement in May 2025 that Xbox's major titles, starting withThe Outer Worlds 2would jump to an $80 price point sparked immediate and fervent criticism from players. Many argued against the price increase, especially for a game like Obsidian Entertainment's RPG, which some felt might not justify a premium tier traditionally reserved for massive blockbusters. The move also saw Xbox following Nintendo, which had recently launchedMario Kart Worldat $80 USD for the Switch 2. The swift reversal by Xbox suggests a direct response to consumer sentiment. Reports indicate that early pre-order numbers forThe Outer Worlds 2may have been lower than anticipated, signaling consumer unwillingness to embrace the new pricing model. Obsidian Entertainment even acknowledged the feedback with a humorous in-universe social media post, joking about 'revising the price' after receiving 'SOS via skip drone' from players. Microsoft's statement confirmed that those who pre-orderedThe Outer Worlds 2at $80 USD will receive refunds. This decision also impacts other major 2025 holiday releases from Xbox, which will now also adhere to the $69.99 USD standard. Earlier this year, Microsoft made the announcement to increase the prices of games for the holiday season. However, it has since backfired. In a recent statement, Microsoft said, 'We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.' While some in the industry have pointed to rising development costs as a justification for price hikes, Microsoft's quick backtrack underscores the power of collective player feedback in influencing corporate decisions. This development leaves the door open for other publishers, including Sony, to re-evaluate their own pricing strategies in response to strong consumer pushback. Good news to hear. The Clue: This Wordle begins with two consonants but only one sound. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . Today's Wordle Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. CRIME never pays. At least that's my experience using the word as an opening guess in Wordle. 176 words and just one green box remained when I plugged in SPOUT for guess #2. That only slashed my remaining options down to 15, though I got one more green vowel in the process. I tried all new letters a third time with GLAND and thankfully that left me with just one remaining possible answer: WHOLE for the win! Today's Wordle Bot I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating me. Our July totals narrow to: Erik: 9 points Wordle Bot: 7 points With just a few days left in July, it's anybody's game! The word "whole" comes from Old English hāl, meaning 'entire, unhurt, healthy.' It is related to Old High German heil and Old Norse heill, both meaning 'healthy' or 'sound.' The root is Proto-Germanic hailaz, from the Proto-Indo-European root kailo- meaning 'whole, uninjured, of good omen.'
