All set for TDP's first Mahanadu in Kadapa from May 27
The stage is set for the commencement of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)'s first-ever Mahanadu, the annual conclave,here on May 27 (Tuesday). Kadapa has been the citadel of the family of former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for decades but it has been broken by the NDA partners — TDP, Jana Sena Party and BJP — in the 2024 general elections.
In fact, the TDP-led alliance had achieved a stunning victory not only in Kadapa district but throughout the Rayalaseema region infamous for its backwardness and faction violence.
Starting Tuesday, the TDP will throw light on its plans for the development of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) for the next four years, while harping on the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) misrule, touching on a wide range of its policies that purportedly pushed the State backward in various spheres.
Reports
On Day One of the mega event, being conducted near C.K. Dinne village near the district headquarters, tributes will be paid to the TDP founder and former CM N.T. Rama Rao. The party's general secretary and treasurer will submit their reports and it will be followed by a speech by TDP State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa. Chief Minister and party national President N. Chandrababu Naidu's inaugural address will follow.
Mr. Naidu will kick off discussions on the organisational structure and its future plans, in addition to the implementation of the party's core principles. During the day, leaders will move a six-formula resolution and propose certain amendments to the rules and regulations of the party.
Most importantly, the leaders will notify the election of the party's national President (which is going to be a mere formality) at 1 p.m.
The second day will feature detailed deliberations on development and welfare programs taken up by the TDP-led NDA government. A photo exhibition and blood donation camps are being conducted as part of the event.
The TDP's six-formula resolution includes a policy to shape aspiring and eligible activists into leaders, Yuva Galam (welfare of the youth, investments, employment opportunities, decentralisation of development, development of backward areas, and WhatsApp Governance), supporting the global Telugu community and involving them in the State's growth, women welfare and empowerment, social justice and prosperity of the poor (eradicating poverty through the P-4 initiative, housing for the weaker sections, and making healthcare and education accessible to all towards achieving Swarnandhra Vision-2047), and supporting farmers with due focus on the construction of irrigation projects.
Tight security
Elaborate arrangements have been made for the Mahanaduon a sprawling ground near Kapada. Mr. Palla Srinivasa Rao, several Ministers, MLAs and Politburo members personally monitored the steps taken for successful conduct of the prestigious event, while the police deployed a large number of personnel to avert any untoward incident and for controlling traffic.
Due focus is going to be laid on plans for the development of Rayalaseema which has been mainly beset by the tardy progress of pending major irrigation projects.

In this situation, with these leaders clearly taking a stand different from the party's, the Centre will certainly use them to counter-question the Congress. What has become even more embarrassing for the Congress is that Khurshid, who has a better standing in the party than Tharoor has now, has also wondered insinuations are being made about their stand for the nation. For these leaders, having stood by the government over allegations made by the Congress, it will be difficult for them to agree with what Gandhi has to say about Operation Sindoor. Many see the idea of sending out the delegations as an ace move from the government, which has been repeatedly asked to hold a special session on Pahalgam attack as well as India's subsequent action against Pakistan. These multi-party teams have come as a massive boost for the government, especially as it wants to counter the Congress narrative that is trying to project Narendra Modi as a weak PM. The confusion within the Congress, however, will not only weaken its battle in Parliament but also shows how weak its top leadership is with multiple voices contradicting the official party stand. Not just this, it also shows the iron grip that the Gandhis once had may be loosening.

More white South Africans arrive in US as new refugee programme begins
A second group of white South Africans has arrived in the United States under a refugee programme announced by the Trump administration, officials and advocacy groups said Monday. Nine people, including families and children, arrived late last week, said Jaco Kleynhans, head of international liaison at the Solidarity Movement, a group representing members of South Africa's white Afrikaner minority. The group travelled on a commercial flight, he said. A spokesperson for the US Embassy said in an email to The Associated Press that refugees continue to arrive in the United States from South Africa on commercial flights as part of the Afrikaner resettlement programme's ongoing operations. An initial group of 59 white South Africans arrived at Dulles International Airport in Virginia on a chartered flight last month under the new programme announced by US President Donald Trump in February. The Trump administration fast-tracked the resettlement of white South Africans after indefinitely suspending other US refugee programmes. The Trump administration said it is offering refugee status to white South Africans it alleges are being persecuted by their Black-led government and are victims of racially motivated violence. The South African government has denied the allegations and said they are a mischaracterisation of the country. Trump has falsely claimed that white South African farmers are targeted in widespread attacks that amount to genocide and are having their land taken away. Trump confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with those baseless claims during a meeting at the White House last month. Ramaphosa has said the relatively small number of attacks on white farmers are part of South Africa's larger problems with violent crime, which affects all races. The Trump administration initially said the refugee programme was aimed at members of South Africa's Afrikaner minority, who are descendants of mainly Dutch and French colonial settlers. In new guidance published by the US Embassy last month, applicants must be a member of a racial minority in South Africa and must be able to articulate a past experience of persecution or fear of future persecution. There are approximately 2.7 million Afrikaners among South Africa's population of 62 million, which is more than 80 per cent Black. They are not the only white minority. There are around 4.5 million whites in total, including those with British or other heritage. The US Embassy spokesperson said the US continues to review inquiries from individuals who have expressed interest to the embassy in resettling to the United States and is reaching out to eligible individuals for refugee interviews and processing". While US officials have not said how many South Africans have applied to be relocated, Kleynhans said there have been around 8,000 applications. Another group helping white South Africans apply for refugee status has said tens of thousands have applied.

Today in Politics: Rahul Gandhi to launch MP Cong revival campaign; second phase of Ram Mandir consecration
Days after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) appointed district observers to oversee the party's organisational revamp in Madhya Pradesh, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is set to lead a series of meetings in Bhopal as part of the Congress's 'Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign)' on Tuesday. The campaign, which had been approved by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at a meeting in Karnataka's Belagavi in December 2024, aims to prepare the party ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh. The move is part of a larger national effort to restructure the party's state units. On Tuesday, Gandhi will launch the campaign in Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress has been diminished since its government collapsed in 2020. The Congress suffered an overwhelming defeat in the 2023 Assembly polls, winning just 66 of the state's 234 seats. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP swept all 29 of the state's Parliamentary seats. 'The abhiyan is being launched to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level and instill enthusiasm among party workers. We have not been in power in Madhya Pradesh for a long time,' former state party chief Arun Yadav and ex-minister Sajjan Verma said on Monday. While in Bhopal, Gandhi will attend a meeting of the state Congress's Political Affairs Committee, followed by meetings with all party MPs and MLAs from the state, observers appointed both by the AICC and the state unit. He will also attend a party convention with members of the state committee, district and block presidents, and AICC members. Gandhi's visit comes just over a week after the state Congress launched a pilot project in the Vidisha district to restructure the party from the grassroots level. Meanwhile, the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government is set to hold a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday in Pachmarhi to honour the legacy of tribal king Raja Bhabhut Singh. According to officials, Pachmarhi holds historical significance due to the contributions of the Gond ruler, who utilised the hilly terrain for governance, security, and the protection of cultural heritage. The BJP has been making special efforts to commemorate regional icons recently. While the Madhya Pradesh government held a recent Cabinet meeting at the Rajwada Palace in Indore to mark the 300th birth anniversary year of famed queen Ahilyabai Holkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 31 attended a 'Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan' in Bhopal that also honoured Ahilyabai Holkar. Second phase of Ram Mandir consecration The second phase of the consecration ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya will begin on Tuesday, officials said. As a precursor to the 'pran pratishtha', a grand sacred procession was flagged off from the banks of the Saryu River on Monday. According to an official statement, the upcoming rituals will include the consecration of idols in the Ram Darbar on the temple's first floor and in six other temples within the complex walls. The main ceremonies will culminate on June 5, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to attend four key events, including the main consecration ceremony. No public invitations have been issued for June 3 to 5. A similar three-day celebration was held on January 11, marking the first anniversary of the original 'pran pratishtha' that was led by PM Modi in January last year. Speaker Om Birla in Brazil Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is in Brazil to participate in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, where he is scheduled to present his views on reform of multilateral peace and security architecture. Birla is leading the Indian parliamentary delegation for the three-day forum, which will be attended by presiding officers of parliaments of BRICS members and invited nations. The delegation comprises Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Rajya Sabha member Surendra Singh Nagar, Lok Sabha members Vijay Baghel, Vivek Thakur and Shabari Byreddy.
