The victim, Chandan Mishra—a notorious gangster with numerous murder charges—was on medical parole and had been admitted to
Paras Hospital
in Patna. He was previously lodged in Bhagalpur jail, having been transferred there from Buxar. Mishra succumbed to his injuries shortly after the shooting.
Authorities suspect the attack was carried out by members of a rival gang, known as the Chandan Sheru gang. 'Chandan Mishra was a criminal with several murder cases. He was out on parole and was undergoing treatment when members of a rival gang shot him. We are working with the Buxar police to identify the assailants,' said Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikay Sharma.
Police are also probing the role of the hospital's security staff and whether there was any collusion that enabled the attackers to gain such easy access to the victim.
Live Events
The brazen hospital killing has intensified public and political outrage, especially amid a recent spike in violent crimes across Bihar's capital. Several high-profile murders, including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato, have raised concerns about the government's grip on law and order.
The ruling JDU-BJP coalition, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is facing mounting pressure from the Opposition, especially with state elections on the horizon. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav lashed out at the administration, questioning the safety of ordinary citizens. 'Criminals backed by the government stormed an ICU and killed a patient. Is anyone safe in Bihar anymore? Did such things happen before 2005?' he asked.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha condemned the incident and promised swift action. 'This is a serious and unfortunate event. A full investigation is underway, and those responsible will be brought to justice. The Chief Minister has made it clear that the culprits will be punished,' he said.
The daring attack has once again turned the spotlight on Bihar's security apparatus, sparking fears over public safety and the unchecked rise of gang-related violence in the state.

Tipra Motha activists attack BJP workers while latter were listening to PM Modi's ‘Mann ki Baat' program; 9 injured

A group of Tipra Motha workers attacked supporters of ally BJP at Asharambari in Khowai district of Tripura on Sunday, injuring nine saffron party workers and damaging scores of vehicles. Asked about the incident, an officer at the state police headquarters in Agartala said, 'As per our latest reports, nine people were injured. A case will be lodged at the local police station and legal action will be taken.' Reacting to the attack, BJP tribal leader Bipin Debbarma said, 'Our supporters and leaders were listening to PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' program, when they were attacked by hooligans from the Tipra Motha party who were armed with machetes, axes, and country-made guns. They intended to murder BJP supporters. At least 10 to 15 motorcycles were damaged in the incident, and two cars sustained heavy damage.' The tribal leader said a detailed report of the incident has been sent to Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and state BJP chief Rajib Bhattacharya, and they have assured to bring the culprits to book and provide necessary treatment to the injured. Sunit Sarkar, Media In-Charge, BJP Tripura unit, told media persons that Tipra Motha minister Animesh Debbarma was looking into the matter. Animesh Debbarma is the local Asharambari MLA. Meanwhile, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma went 'Live' on Facebook and criticised his own party workers for the attack. 'I don't want political violence in Tripura. If tribals keep fighting each other in the name of flags, one day flags will be all that's left, land will be lost. You can do politics two months before the elections. Till then, keep thansa (unity) as tribals… Politics of violence will not give us anything,' Pradyot Kishore said. Pradyot Kishore then said that Naga people are united across party lines, but tribals in Tripura are not united. He also alleged that former CPM leaders are joining the BJP and the Tipra Motha and are trying to foment a crisis, and urged both parties to stay wary of such political elements. Speaking to he later said, 'I don't want our party's name to be dragged into such conflicts. If anything, Tipra Motha and the BJP should come together and fight against illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar.'

Fake AI-generated video triggers political row in Rudrapur

Rudrapur: Former BJP MLA Rajkumar Thukral on Sunday reported an AI-generated video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was widely circulated in US Nagar's Rudrapur ahead of the panchayat elections on July 24. The doctored clip shows Modi endorsing Amita Biswas, a district panchayat candidate. Thukral filed a complaint with SSP Manikant Mishra, alleging that "Amita's husband, Jagdish Biswas, created and shared the video to sway voters and gain an unfair advantage." Calling it a criminal offense and a violation of the Model Code of Conduct, Thukral said, "This is a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the PM and mislead the public. Such actions must not go unpunished." He also reported the incident to the PMO for investigation and urged police to file an FIR and take strict action.
