Newest basketball transfer played against the Tar Heels twice in 2024
Newest basketball transfer played against the Tar Heels twice in 2024 Can Jarin Stevenson grow into his full potential now that he's a Tar Heel?
If there's one team that has UNC's number on the basketball court, it's Alabama. The Crimson Tide eliminated North Carolina from the 2024 NCAA Tournament last year, then won an ACC-SEC Challenge matchup in December.
Despite its recent success against the Tar Heels, Alabama has yet to win a National Championship. The Crimson Tide also enter their 2025-2026 campaign without a key player, as Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson transferred to UNC on April 13.
Though Stevenson will now suit up for the team he grew up cheering for, Stevenson also had small impacts in each of his former school's victories against North Carolina.
When the Crimson Tide eliminated the Tar Heels during the 2024 NCAA Tournament, Stevenson grabbed four rebounds, blocked one shot and dished out an assist in 15 minutes off the bench.
Four months ago in December, Stevenson enjoyed more of an impact in 16 minutes: six points, three rebounds, one block and assist apiece.
After Alabama's win over UNC last season, Stevenson spoke briefly about what it meant to play against UNC.
"Tonight was definitely a surreal feeling," Stevenson said. "I've been to quite a bit of their (UNC) games. My mom (Nicole Walker Stevenson) played here too. It's nice being back and it's always great to get a win."
Stevenson is now part of a suddenly deep, talented frontcourt that includes incoming 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar and North Carolina center Ven-Allen Lubin, who enjoyed a late-season ascension after replacing Jalen Washington in the starting lineup. There's also the possibility of Zayden High returning, though we have no official word on that decision yet.

Tez Johnson stealing the show at Buccaneers minicamp
Tez Johnson stealing the show at Buccaneers minicamp Tez Johnson wasn't on anyone's radar when he left the Troy Trojans back in 2023. But when he landed with the Oregon Ducks, he dazzled audiences and greatly improved his draft outlook. He was selected towards the end of the draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round, but it is much better than going undrafted. Most players selected as late as Johnson struggle to even make the team's roster, but it seems the Oregon standout has a solid chance. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him with the 235th overall pick and if he played at all during his rookie season it was assumed it would be on special teams. However, head coach Todd Bowles spoke to the media following a practice session this week, offering a glowing review of Johnson. 'He could be a vital part of our offense if he continues trending the way he's trending.' Not only does Bowles think he's capable of impacting the offense, he thinks Johnson could be one of the driving forces. The Buccaneers are getting to see some of the game-breaking speed and elusiveness that electrified crowds back in Eugene, and they have clearly fallen in love. BREAKING: Oregon Ducks land commitment from 4-star WR Messiah Hampton
BREAKING: Oregon Ducks land commitment from 4-star WR Messiah Hampton The Oregon Ducks picked up a major win on the recruiting trail to kick off the weekend, landing 4-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton, the No. 1 ranked player from the state of New York in the 2026 class. Hampton is a massive win for Oregon's new wide receiver coach Ross Douglas, who developed a close relationship with the blue-chip player while coaching at Syracuse and continued that relationship when he came over to Eugene. The 247Sports Composite rates Hampton as the No. 102 player in the 2026 class, and the No. 11 WR. He stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. He is scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon later this month. It doesn't come as a major surprise that Hampton committed to Oregon. The Ducks were battling the likes of Syracuse, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Miami Hurricanes down the stretch, among a few others. Ultimately, it is the relationship with Douglas that proved to be the most significant factor in getting him to side with the Ducks. While he is verbally committed, this commitment is long from over, though. According to 247Sports' Brian Dohn, schools like Syracuse and Penn State are expected to stay in the mix for Hampton throughout the fall, so until the pen hits paper in December, this will be an important one to keep an eye on.
