Beyond The Gates Recap: Bill and Malone Stop Martin From Exposing Everyone's Secrets originally appeared on Daytime Confidential.
On today's Beyond The Gates recap:
Fairmont Country Club - Lobby: Dani reviews pictures of her modeling days when Vanessa arrives. They greet each other in a goofy but familiar way and Vanessa takes a seat. She asks what's wrong but Dani would rather hear about the fabulous location she's found for the modeling agency. She has something in Georgetown but thinks she should consider U Street. Dani notes the street used to be called Black Broadway. Vanessa notes all the black royalty who once lived there. Dani doesn't want to think about it as she's certain her return to modeling is going to flop. Vanessa is stunned to learn she might be going back, and Dani says it's Pamela's grand idea.
Naomi and Jacob's Apartment: Naomi (and her beautiful new hair) talks about June as Jacob is too distracted to listen. She sits in his lap and Jacob says he thinks Martin is in over his head. Naomi asks for details, and he fills her in on Kenneth's interactions with the kids. They don't have many details, and Martin won't explain anything to Smitty. Jacob goes on to explain Martin going to Malone which confuses Naomi as much as it does Jacob and Smitty. He thinks the whole situation is about to blow sky high.
Naomi thinks about June and wishes there was some way she could contact her family or anyone who would care what happens to her after she's released from the hospital. Jacob remembers the phone number on the picture but Naomi thinks it was a dead end. Jacob thinks she should keep calling back until someone talks to her.
Joey's Gambling Pit: Joey and Malone are playing cards. Just then, Malone gets a text saying Kenneth has been spotted. Bill arrives and Malone updates him on the lead to Kenneth's location. Bill goes off saying Martin is stressed out and threatening to take control of the operation. Vernon is trying to rein him in but they don't have a great deal of time. Just then, Malone exits to follow up on his lead.
Bill tells Joey that Vernon still wants to go the way of non-violence. However, those times are long gone since Kenneth made his way into Martin's house and chatted up both kids. Just then, Bill gets a call asking why Congressman Richardson is throwing an impromptu press conference.
Park: Smitty looks around when Kenneth walks up. Smitty asks why Kenneth has been hanging around his kids, but he thinks he should check in with his husband. Kenneth walks away but Smitty calls him back and asks for a message to give to Martin. Kenneth says to tell his husband he missed the deadline and wants him money tonight. He goes on to say Martin is, in fact, the bad guy in this situation.
Kenneth sits in the park alone when he sees breaking news of Martin's press conference.
Orphey Gene's: The restaurant is closed for Martin's press conference. A member of the press is curious why there's a lack of press corps and family. Just then, Vernon arrives and wants to chat about Martin's earlier encounter with Bill. He worries his grandson is going to unburden himself in a public forum. Martin all but confirms Vernon's assumptions as he warns his grandson not to ruin his life.
Vernon says a public confession isn't the answer, but Martin thinks it's the only way to protect the children. He goes on to give some details of what happened two years ago. Martin says he reacted to an obvious hate crime. Vernon jumps in and says he was defending the both of them. That being said, they didn't report it which means they are open to all kinds of scrutiny. Martin doesn't care as long as the kids are safe.
Vernon wants to throw cash at Kenneth, but Martin thinks he will keep coming back. He mentions the previously bungled payoff and Vernon says it was all Joey's fault. Martin says he never would have gone along with the plan had he known Joey was involved. Vernon begs Martin to put the press conference on hold for a few days so he can take care of the situation. Martin returns to the Joey of it all, but Vernon defends his involvement as desperate times form strange alliances. Martin is having none of it and believes he needs to confess.
Martin and Vernon rejoin the press folks in the front when Joey walks in. Vernon goes over and says the only reason the presser is happening is because of the mess Joey made. Joey denies making a mess but says everything is being taken care of as they speak. Just then, Bill arrives. Vernon explains why Martin is going rogue and how Bill should understand as he is a father, too. Bill gets it and says he will talk to Martin.
Vanessa walks in and is surprised to find Vernon and learn about Martin's press conference. She says she doesn't really follow politics but is there to meet with an impressive new client. She looks across the room and spots Joey. Vernon is surprised they keep company but she says she would sell anything to pretty much anyone. Joey tries to charm Vanessa who only wants to know why they are there.
Martin doesn't want to hear from Bill or anyone else who wants to change his mind about telling the truth. Bill thinks he is making a mistake but will stand by his decision. If Martin insists on telling the truth, Bill thinks he will need a good defense attorney. Martin is surprised by his uncle and accepts Bill's offer.
The last member of the press arrives and Martin is ready to get started. Bill tells him to run and get some water and let him do the introductions (Bill is so smooth). He takes the podium and says they will get started shortly. Vernon is confused by what's going on and Bill says he is stalling and to trust him. He returns to the podium and introduces himself and his relationship to Martin. Bill waxes poetic about Martin as a child and all the reasons he admires his nephew. Just then, Vernon looks out the window and spies Malone holding a gun on Kenneth and then dragging him away (I hope no camera crews are outside the presser!).
As Bill speaks, Vanessa wants to know why she and Joey are there. Joey likes watching her connect the dots. She connects them quickly as she realizes he needs to be seen with her in such a public place, so he has an unimpeachable alibi, for something…
Martin and Smitty's Digs: Samantha is filling in Tyrell on their pop decking Kenneth. She says they clearly know each other and have beef. Whatever the beef, their pop is completely freaked out and now the police are watching the house. Tyrell spies the cops from the window. Samantha tells Tyrell about Smitty's ultimatum to Martin and worries she just watched her parents split up. Just then, Smitty returns and says he needs a minute and then will do his best to answer all of their questions.
Smitty returns with two bags in hand and tells the kids they belong to their pop. They beg him not to throw pop out, but Smitty says he simply can't stay at the house with them right now. Samantha freaks out thinking it's her fault for talking to Kenneth. Tyrell joins in but Smitty says nothing is their fault. None of them had any way of knowing the man was dangerous. Samantha begs again for them to talk about it and Smitty relents.
Samantha asks what's going on and Smitty admits he doesn't really know. Tyrell thinks his dad is being evasive, but Smitty says he's still piecing things together. The only thing he knows for certain is their pop went to the police and asked for 24-hour protection. Smitty can't get beyond Martin keeping secrets which put them at risk. Samantha asks that they wait for pop to get home so they can figure out what to do together.
Smitty says the secret about Kenneth isn't the only thing their pop has been holding back. Tyrell inquires and Smitty say Martin has been keeping secrets for months. They've been arguing for a while. The kids know they've been fighting but think they shouldn't just give up. Smitty hopes everything works out but asks what the one family rule is. In unison, the kids say, 'everybody tells everybody everything.'
Previous Beyond The Gates Recap:
Endings
Naomi dials the number from the photograph and gets an answer. She introduces herself and asks if they know someone named June. They hang up and an enraged Naomi calls right back. This time, the person on the other line says, 'don't call this number again, my sister is dead to me.'
Smitty apologizes to the kids for the situation but says he can't let things with their pop continue. They have a lot of issues to deal with so their pop could be gone for a while. The kids are upset and Smitty sits between them and pulls them close.
Martin interrupts Bill's generous introduction and takes the podium. As Martin is clearly about to step down from his post, Bill gets a text from Malone saying 'done' with a picture of a seemingly dead Kenneth. Bill slides the phone under Martin's nose and the sight of the picture renders him speechless. Bill retakes the podium and says they have to cut the presser short as they have a family emergency. Bill leans down to Martin and says, 'it's over.'

I Watched 'Jaws' For The First Time & Here's My Reaction

Jaws is officially 50 years old. It was Steven Spielberg's second film (can you believe that?), and it blew up at the box office in 1975, making it the first big summer blockbuster ever. Oh, yeah, it also won three Academy Awards, NBD... But even after all these accolades, I have never seen it... until now. So grab your chum bucket (aka popcorn), and watch the movie with me for the 50th anniversary below: Cool, cool, cool, cool... we're just starting off with the Jaws theme song. This is fine...I'm fine. Oh, look, now we're hanging out with the youths while they have a bonfire. And this man approached a woman... who was hanging by herself, might I add. Sir, stay in your lane. Now they're running toward the beach because Chrissie wants to go swimming?? Girl, it's in the middle of the night! Why do you think this is a good idea?? (I can already tell, I'm too old to hang with these youths...) "I'm not drunk!!" said a very "sober" nameless man as he ran after her. *facepalm* Wait... now Chrissie is in the ocean by herself... in the middle of the night?? In this economy??? And this man, who is NAMELESS, is struggling to take his clothes off because he's "not drunk"? This isn't going to end well. However, Chrissie's footwork? 10/10 And the Jaws music is back... Damn, you, American composer and conductor John Williams... damn you. Bruce got her!! Chrissie is screaming for her life! And this NAMELESS man is just lying on the beach?? Absolutely not. Why are you doing this to me so early in the movie, Steven Spielberg?? So now it's the following morning, and we're at Martin and Ellen Brody's house... AND THEIR SON HAS A CUT ON HIS HAND?? It's too early for this. What is going on with the youths in this town?? Okay, Martin and Ellen are so cute together. A healthy couple in a thriller movie? I'll take it. Also, can we talk about how great this shot is? You find out he's the chief of the Amity Police Department with perfect positioning of the car behind the fence, and the color contrast is *chef kiss.* "And nobody saw her go into the water?" "Somebody could have, but I was sort of... passed out." YOU DID THIS, NAMELESS MAN! Oh, no... they found Chrissie. Well, thanks to Polly, we finally figured out how Martin's son hurt his hand: Apparently, kids have been karate chopping picket fences. *shakes fists* Youths. Now Martin needs to go to the store to get supplies to create "beach closed" signs. A man of many talents... "This stuff is not going to help me in August. ... You haven't got one thing I ordered. Not a beach umbrella, not a sun lounger, no beach balls. If I can't get service..." Okay, sir, in the background, you don't need to be rude to the store owner! Where is that shark when we need him... #sharkattackonland "You're going to shut down the beaches on your own authority? ... Amity is a summer town. We need summer dollars..." Oh, this mayor is the devil, isn't he? Capitalism at its finest. I don't like how much the camera is focusing on the dog... Or this boy... "Are you okay?" "Everything is fine, it's fine..." Don't hide your anxiety, Martin! Tell your wife how you feel!!! Also, props to Ellen for being a supportive wife. "If the kids going into the water is worrying you, they can play on the beach." #morehealthycouplesinfilm "We know all about you, Chief. You don't go into the water at all, do you?" I don't condone making fun of old men, but HOW DARE YOU, HARRY. Don't bring up Martin's traumas to his face. Martin is right: That is some "bad hat, Harry." Now, go back into the water where you belong. Ugh, I knew it. The owner is calling for his dog, Pippet. The dog didn't deserve this, Steven Spielberg! Okay, you (kinda) won me back, Steven. Only because you did this iconic dolly zoom shot when Bruce unfortunately killed the kid and the dog. #justiceforpippet "Any special questions?" "Is that $3,000 bounty on the shark cash or check?" Oh, hell no. A kid (and a dog) just died, sir. Go straight to jail!! The absolute worst (yet best) introduction to a new character ever??? I might say so. My body will never recover from this sound. "I don't want no volunteers. I don't want no mates. ... $10,000 for me, by myself. For that, you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing." Uhhhh, yeah, I would trust this guy with my whole life. Give this fisherman all your money to kill this shark!! For the boy, for Pippet!!! "Oh, you scared me!" He scared you, Ellen?? You were the one who snuck up behind him while he was reading about sharks! At least she forces him to stop reading so he can fall asleep. "Wanna get drunk and fool around?" Get it. #morehealthycouplesinmovies OHHHHHHH, Matt Hooper has entered the chat!! And so has the rest of New England!! Everyone is trying to get that $3,000 reward from the boy's mom to kill the shark, but everyone is not thinking straight!! Why are so many people trying to get into a small boat?? Why was a person holding dynamite so casually?? It feels like Martin is trying to control a bunch of wild children!! Is this what parenting is like?? "Gentlemen, the officer asked me to tell you that you are overloading the boat!" "Ah, get out of here..." "Ha, ha... they're all going to die." This feels a little too close to what's happening in today's political world. *facepalm* I'm not triggered, you're triggered. WHY ARE THESE DOGS ON A BOAT WHILE A MAN IS THROWING CHUM INTO THE OCEAN?!?!?! Does no one care about dogs in this movie?? I give up! *Throws myself into the ocean* Oh, Matt, who is the marine biologist, asked to see Chrissie... and she's in this wash basin... Oh, Chrissie. I'll never forgive you, nameless man!! #justiceforchrissie Ah, so they think they caught THE SHARK... but Matt has other opinions on the matter. "The fact is the bite radius on this animal is different than the wounds on the victim. I want to be sure. You want to be sure. ... Let's cut it open. Whatever it's eaten in the last 24 hours is bound to still be in there, and then we'll be sure." That's right, Matty, SPEAK YOUR TRUTH!! Lord, the mayor has OPINIONS on Matty's professional analysis of the situation??? OF COURSE HE DOES!! "Look, fellas, let's be reasonable, huh?" Reasonable, Larry?? Reasonable? I'LL SHOW YOU REASONABLE!! The boy's mom came to see Martin and SLAPPED HIM! "I just found out that a girl got killed here last week... and you knew it." What a heartbreaking scene... and she's 100% right. Her boy is dead because of the choices the town made just to get "summer dollars." What a disgrace! And Larry, the devil — ahem — the mayor, had the audacity to say she was wrong???? Let me at him!! Thankfully, Martin said she wasn't wrong. DAMN STRAIGHT!! That woman lost her son because of you, Larry!! Well, I'm officially a part of the Matt Hooper club. Why? I'm so glad you asked: #1 He invited himself over and brought TWO different wine bottles because he didn't know what the Brodys were serving for dinner.#2 He asked if anyone was eating the full plate of food that was on the table, which was clearly not made for him.#3 He began to tell Martin that he should let the wine breathe, as Martin stopped giving a fuck and poured himself a giant glass. Also, add me to the Martin Brody fan club, too. His wife: "Martin hates boats. Martin hates water. Martin sits in his car when we go onto the ferry to the mainland. I guess it's a childhood thing. There's a clinical name for it..." Martin: "Drowning." "I can do anything... I'm the chief of police." YES, PREACH, MARTIN, PREACH. Stand in your power and drink that giant-ass glass of wine! Cue Mariah Carey's "Hero". "And when a hero comes along..." #4 reason why I'm in the Matt Hooper club: He's an encouraging "friend"... Matt: "I gotta find [the shark] right now; he's a night "ON THE WATER?"Matt: "Well, if we're looking for a shark, we're not going to find him on the land."Martin: "Yeah, but I'm not drunk enough to go on a boat."Matt: "Yes, you are."Martin: "No, I'm not."Matt: "Yes, you are!"Martin: "I can't do that."Matt: "Yes, you can." Seems like Martin found a larger "glass" for his boat ride! You won't catch him wine-ing about it. (I'm sorry, I had to.) JESUS, MARY, AND JOSEPH!! What is going on with this abandoned boat they found?!?! "We will be open for business." Even after EVERYTHING that has happened, this m*therf*cker still doesn't want to close the beaches? I've never hated a character more. Sorry for the swear words, familia, but my god. I need a "Martin-sized" cup of wine right about now. These families have no idea a people-eating shark is in the water! And Larry "the Devil" is asking this person and his family to get into the water, KNOWING there is a shark somewhere out there. Somebody hold me back because I'm about to jump through the TV screen. Well, look at that, LARRY. There's a shark, and someone else has died! You're lucky Martin and Ellen's kid got out alive!!! Oh, NOW Larry realizes what he's done?? "I was acting in the town's best interest. ... My kids were on that beach, too." Don't you dare! Just sign the damn papers Martin is giving you to hire the shark murderer and go on your way, sir! #justiceforpippet Oh, this fisherman like hates-hates sharks. "What am I going to tell the kids?" "Tell them I'm going fishing." OMG, where did this sweat around my eyes come from?? Ah, look at these two becoming best friends... JK, they hate each other's chum guts. "He's gone under the boat. I think he's gone under the boat!" WTF does that mean, QUINT? What does that mean?!?! Quint: "Marlin, Stingray bit through this piano wire? Don't you tell me my business again." Yeah, I'm gonna steal that. Oh, and let's sketch this on the biggest billboard we find, too: "Well, it proves one thing, Mr. Hooper: It proves that you wealthy college boys don't have the education enough to admit when you're wrong." SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK! BRUCE HAS RISEN!!! Martin has risen!!! "You're gonna need a bigger boat." (Also, is this the first full look of Bruce's face??? An hour-ish into the movie??? Such a smart idea to lead up to this reveal!!) Can we talk about how this scene would never be shot today? A real boat, in the real ocean, with real water? Give us realism, please and thank you! #2 reason why I'm a part of the Martin Brody fan club: "Martin, move, move, move!" "I'm not going out there!" "Go beyond the edge of the barrels. Further out!" "WHY? What for?" "I need to have something in the foreground to give it some scale!" "Foreground my ass!" FIRST SHOT!!! But he disappeared! Omg, my hair is falling out from all the stress. Wait, are Quint and Matt actually becoming besties after trying to fight a shark all day??? Look at them!! Oh... is this why Quint hates sharks? He was on the USS Indianapolis, where the boat was sunk by a Japanese submarine, and sailors were fighting for their lives in shark-infested I don't blame him... Okay, it's the next day and BRUCE IS BACK!! And Quint smashed the hell out of the radio with a bat while Martin was trying to radio in the Coast Guard for help!! He's gone cuckoo for Coco Puffs!! SECOND SHOT!!! AND A THIRD SHOT, too!! Quint won't quit!!! They tried to tie Bruce to the boat to bring him in, but he's too powerful!! I wasn't expecting Bruce to be a beast like this!!! Now I understand how this shark made people terrified of the ocean in the '70s!! Good news is: Bruce can't stay underwater with three barrels attached!! haha SUCK IT, BRUCE!! Of course, Bruce is angry and decides to chase them... of course!! Yeah, I'm never going into the ocean again. But their boat is falling apart as they try to go back to the shore to drown Bruce. Why didn't anyone tell me the last hour of the movie is just straight chaos?!?! Welp, I guess the only option is to put Matty into the shark cage so he can poison Bruce up close. This is fine... he's fine. Oh, no!! He lost the poison stick and is now hiding from the shark in the water!! AND MARTIN AND QUINT THINK HE'S DEAD!! Aw, now Bruce feels bad and wants to replace Matt by becoming the "third fisherman"... JK, he wants to eat them as little snackies. I can't help but think of Martin and how he must feel during this time: He hates the ocean and he hates boats; he didn't ask for any of this, but he got sucked in because of Larry! Now, a shark is trying to "board" a boat in the middle of the ocean to eat him and his mate. He'll need a therapist after this. NOOOOO, QUINT IS DEAD!!!! Martin is DEFINITELY going to need to see a therapist after this... Martin threw one of the oxygen tanks into the shark's mouth!! Didn't Quint say earlier that the shark was going to eat one of the tanks as a joke? I guess it's coming true!!! For someone who hates water and boats (and sharks), Martin is killing it!! His therapist will be so proud. MARTIN KILLED THE SHARK ALL BY HIMSELF!!!! He don't need no (fisher)man!!! And he found out his bestie Matty is alive!! Oh, Quint, you got the $10,000 but never got to use it. That's so unfair!! "I used to hate the water." "I can't imagine why." OMG, what an amazing ending. What a jaw-dropping movie (see what I did there)? SO GOOD! Have you seen Jaws? Tell us what you think of the movie in the comments below.

Nicole catches her up on Leslie's assault claim which Jacob made go away. Dani can't believe her prim and proper older sister laid hands on Leslie up in the middle of Orphey Gene's. Nicole isn't proud of her actions but Dani is thrilled and wishes she saw this side of her sister growing up. Nicole follows up saying she laid into Bill the night before but thinks she needs to focus her energy on Martin. She says she is meeting Tyrell and Samantha at the club later to give them some Grandma time. With that, the sisters hug. Tyrell and Samantha arrive and Nicole tells them how much Martin misses them. Nicole wants to make sure they feel supported in this unfortunate time. Samantha says she and Tyrell want to talk their dad into letting their pop move back home. Nicole says their parents have a lot to work through. Tyrell wonders if they have all the details. Kat and Chelsea's Place: The duo are discussing their upcoming launch. Kat is clearly beside herself, and Chelsea asks what's up. Kat says it's always Eva and is annoyed 'he' is always about her. Chelsea thinks she's talking about her father, but Kat says it's about Tomas. Kat tells her the story about finding Tomas in Eva's motel room the night before. She isn't sure what it means for her and Tomas. Chelsea thinks Eva isn't in her league and Kat agrees. With that, she calls Tomas. Tomas arrives just as Chelsea exits. He can't believe she called him over and says he didn't sleep with Eva. Kat wants to believe him but needs confirmation. Tomas says he likes Eva and doesn't think she's gotten a fair shake from her family. Kat goes IN on Eva and how she tried to blow up her family's life. She expected more from him and wants to know if he wants Eva more than her. Tomas says Eva is a friend and that's all it is. Tomas says he really doesn't understand Kat's feelings nor where he stands. Kat reminds him about the other night where he walked out when she wanted to sleep with him. She brings up Eva again and Tomas LIES saying he simply wonders if they are together because she likes him or doesn't want Eva to have him. Kat admits her anger got the best of her which keeps her from being honest about her feelings. She admits she is crazy about him but she will not be in a triangle with him and her sister. Tomas says Kat is the only person he wants (LIES!). She is taken by his words and they get all hot and heavy and finally seal the deal. Bill's Law Office: Tomas is outside Bill's door when Hayley approaches and asks if he's off the conference call. Just then, Bill emerges and says Tomas can take over. He greets Hayley and they go into the office. She tries to talk to him but he rushes off before she has a chance. Orphey Gene's: Naomi meets up with June and says how good she looks. June calls for the check as she is all kinds of anxious to leave. June pulls out some cash and pays for lunch. The waitress tries to look at June's picture but is brutally rebuffed. Naomi insists on paying the tip, but June thinks the server is unworthy (Also, what was that monopoly money June handed the waitress?). Naomi asks to take another look at the picture and says the kids are beautiful. She says she is curious about the phone number. Before she can answer, Hayley approaches and June hugs her and makes her exit. Hayley tells Naomi she is worried someone close to both of them may have committed a crime. She asks about Bill and wonders if he killed someone. Naomi thinks she should ask her husband about criminal activity. Hayley tells Naomi about his encounter with Nicole and how she took his head off. She begs Naomi to tell her if her husband is in trouble. Naomi thinks it's not her place to tell Hayley about her father. Hayley thinks her husband isn't a criminal. Naomi says her father is complicated and she has barely scratched the surface. With that, she exits. Jacob arrives and Naomi wants them to get to the bottom of the June issue. Dani's Digs: Pamela arrives to check in with Dani after Martin's presser. Dani avoids commenting and Pamela calls her on it. After a while, she leaves it alone. Dani admits Martin and Smitty are going through an issue but believes they will work it out. Pamela offers her support in anyway she can. Pamela says she has news and shares she's been taking meetings for their company about her. Two different fashion houses want to sign deals to have Dani be the lead model. She says she hasn't committed to anything but if Dani is on board their modeling agency is on the map! Dani can't believe these companies are offering so much money, but Pamela says she is drop dead gorgeous and the agencies want the woman she is now. Pamela reminds Dani she didn't quit modeling because she was too old. She quit because she put a man before her. Dani still isn't certain which is why Pamela called for backup. Just then, Andre walks in. Dani is stunned to see Pamela has set up an entire runway scene in the other room. Andre is ready to take pictures and tries to relax her. With that, Dani locks in and goes full on model. Dani returns and Pamela tells her to take a look at the pictures before making her exit. Andre says the camera loves her. Dani wonders if she should go forward. He doesn't want to make a decision for her but is all kinds of interested in getting all kinds of nekkid. Bill's Law Office: Hayley returns and tells Bill she's frustrated with his lack of transparency. She says she went to Naomi who directed her back to him. She wants to know why Nicole was so mad at him and wonders what's up with the murder insinuation from the night before. Bill says he has to keep details vague and says the 'murder' took place two years ago (LIES!). Hayley says she will shut down her questions because she loves him which is all that should matter. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Tyrell tells Nicole details about what happened the last night with pop and dad, which is why he and Samantha think they are being left out. Nicole does her best to smooth the entire situation over without saying anything – which clearly doesn't satisfy her grandchildren. Bill informs Hayley that he can't always tell her the truth but would never commit murder. Hayley knows he is and will do whatever it takes to take care of her and their baby. Tomas kisses up Kat's shoulder in the afterglow of her virgin voyage. He is clearly trying to woo her to round two whilst she looks all kinds of regretful for round one.
