Beyond The Gates Recap: Bill and Malone Stop Martin From Exposing Everyone's Secrets
On today's Beyond The Gates recap:
Fairmont Country Club - Lobby: Dani reviews pictures of her modeling days when Vanessa arrives. They greet each other in a goofy but familiar way and Vanessa takes a seat. She asks what's wrong but Dani would rather hear about the fabulous location she's found for the modeling agency. She has something in Georgetown but thinks she should consider U Street. Dani notes the street used to be called Black Broadway. Vanessa notes all the black royalty who once lived there. Dani doesn't want to think about it as she's certain her return to modeling is going to flop. Vanessa is stunned to learn she might be going back, and Dani says it's Pamela's grand idea.
Naomi and Jacob's Apartment: Naomi (and her beautiful new hair) talks about June as Jacob is too distracted to listen. She sits in his lap and Jacob says he thinks Martin is in over his head. Naomi asks for details, and he fills her in on Kenneth's interactions with the kids. They don't have many details, and Martin won't explain anything to Smitty. Jacob goes on to explain Martin going to Malone which confuses Naomi as much as it does Jacob and Smitty. He thinks the whole situation is about to blow sky high.
Naomi thinks about June and wishes there was some way she could contact her family or anyone who would care what happens to her after she's released from the hospital. Jacob remembers the phone number on the picture but Naomi thinks it was a dead end. Jacob thinks she should keep calling back until someone talks to her.
Joey's Gambling Pit: Joey and Malone are playing cards. Just then, Malone gets a text saying Kenneth has been spotted. Bill arrives and Malone updates him on the lead to Kenneth's location. Bill goes off saying Martin is stressed out and threatening to take control of the operation. Vernon is trying to rein him in but they don't have a great deal of time. Just then, Malone exits to follow up on his lead.
Bill tells Joey that Vernon still wants to go the way of non-violence. However, those times are long gone since Kenneth made his way into Martin's house and chatted up both kids. Just then, Bill gets a call asking why Congressman Richardson is throwing an impromptu press conference.
Park: Smitty looks around when Kenneth walks up. Smitty asks why Kenneth has been hanging around his kids, but he thinks he should check in with his husband. Kenneth walks away but Smitty calls him back and asks for a message to give to Martin. Kenneth says to tell his husband he missed the deadline and wants him money tonight. He goes on to say Martin is, in fact, the bad guy in this situation.
Kenneth sits in the park alone when he sees breaking news of Martin's press conference.
Orphey Gene's: The restaurant is closed for Martin's press conference. A member of the press is curious why there's a lack of press corps and family. Just then, Vernon arrives and wants to chat about Martin's earlier encounter with Bill. He worries his grandson is going to unburden himself in a public forum. Martin all but confirms Vernon's assumptions as he warns his grandson not to ruin his life.
Vernon says a public confession isn't the answer, but Martin thinks it's the only way to protect the children. He goes on to give some details of what happened two years ago. Martin says he reacted to an obvious hate crime. Vernon jumps in and says he was defending the both of them. That being said, they didn't report it which means they are open to all kinds of scrutiny. Martin doesn't care as long as the kids are safe.
Vernon wants to throw cash at Kenneth, but Martin thinks he will keep coming back. He mentions the previously bungled payoff and Vernon says it was all Joey's fault. Martin says he never would have gone along with the plan had he known Joey was involved. Vernon begs Martin to put the press conference on hold for a few days so he can take care of the situation. Martin returns to the Joey of it all, but Vernon defends his involvement as desperate times form strange alliances. Martin is having none of it and believes he needs to confess.
Martin and Vernon rejoin the press folks in the front when Joey walks in. Vernon goes over and says the only reason the presser is happening is because of the mess Joey made. Joey denies making a mess but says everything is being taken care of as they speak. Just then, Bill arrives. Vernon explains why Martin is going rogue and how Bill should understand as he is a father, too. Bill gets it and says he will talk to Martin.
Vanessa walks in and is surprised to find Vernon and learn about Martin's press conference. She says she doesn't really follow politics but is there to meet with an impressive new client. She looks across the room and spots Joey. Vernon is surprised they keep company but she says she would sell anything to pretty much anyone. Joey tries to charm Vanessa who only wants to know why they are there.
Martin doesn't want to hear from Bill or anyone else who wants to change his mind about telling the truth. Bill thinks he is making a mistake but will stand by his decision. If Martin insists on telling the truth, Bill thinks he will need a good defense attorney. Martin is surprised by his uncle and accepts Bill's offer.
The last member of the press arrives and Martin is ready to get started. Bill tells him to run and get some water and let him do the introductions (Bill is so smooth). He takes the podium and says they will get started shortly. Vernon is confused by what's going on and Bill says he is stalling and to trust him. He returns to the podium and introduces himself and his relationship to Martin. Bill waxes poetic about Martin as a child and all the reasons he admires his nephew. Just then, Vernon looks out the window and spies Malone holding a gun on Kenneth and then dragging him away (I hope no camera crews are outside the presser!).
As Bill speaks, Vanessa wants to know why she and Joey are there. Joey likes watching her connect the dots. She connects them quickly as she realizes he needs to be seen with her in such a public place, so he has an unimpeachable alibi, for something…
Martin and Smitty's Digs: Samantha is filling in Tyrell on their pop decking Kenneth. She says they clearly know each other and have beef. Whatever the beef, their pop is completely freaked out and now the police are watching the house. Tyrell spies the cops from the window. Samantha tells Tyrell about Smitty's ultimatum to Martin and worries she just watched her parents split up. Just then, Smitty returns and says he needs a minute and then will do his best to answer all of their questions.
Smitty returns with two bags in hand and tells the kids they belong to their pop. They beg him not to throw pop out, but Smitty says he simply can't stay at the house with them right now. Samantha freaks out thinking it's her fault for talking to Kenneth. Tyrell joins in but Smitty says nothing is their fault. None of them had any way of knowing the man was dangerous. Samantha begs again for them to talk about it and Smitty relents.
Samantha asks what's going on and Smitty admits he doesn't really know. Tyrell thinks his dad is being evasive, but Smitty says he's still piecing things together. The only thing he knows for certain is their pop went to the police and asked for 24-hour protection. Smitty can't get beyond Martin keeping secrets which put them at risk. Samantha asks that they wait for pop to get home so they can figure out what to do together.
Smitty says the secret about Kenneth isn't the only thing their pop has been holding back. Tyrell inquires and Smitty say Martin has been keeping secrets for months. They've been arguing for a while. The kids know they've been fighting but think they shouldn't just give up. Smitty hopes everything works out but asks what the one family rule is. In unison, the kids say, 'everybody tells everybody everything.'
Previous Beyond The Gates Recap:
Endings
Naomi dials the number from the photograph and gets an answer. She introduces herself and asks if they know someone named June. They hang up and an enraged Naomi calls right back. This time, the person on the other line says, 'don't call this number again, my sister is dead to me.'
Smitty apologizes to the kids for the situation but says he can't let things with their pop continue. They have a lot of issues to deal with so their pop could be gone for a while. The kids are upset and Smitty sits between them and pulls them close.
Martin interrupts Bill's generous introduction and takes the podium. As Martin is clearly about to step down from his post, Bill gets a text from Malone saying 'done' with a picture of a seemingly dead Kenneth. Bill slides the phone under Martin's nose and the sight of the picture renders him speechless. Bill retakes the podium and says they have to cut the presser short as they have a family emergency. Bill leans down to Martin and says, 'it's over.'

Inside the 12 hours it took for an awkward moment at a Coldplay concert to go viral
The Coldplay kiss cam video shows how fast someone's 15 seconds of fame can ricochet around the world. The clip caught a tech CEO and his head of HR embracing and led to the chief's resignation Here's a play-by-play of how the scandal unfolded — and why it caught so much attention. By now, we've all seen the Coldplay kiss cam fiasco. What happened in the hours and days afterward is a case study in how fast someone's 15 seconds of fame (or infamy) can truly ricochet around the world. A tech CEO and his HR head were caught embracing on the jumbotron at Gillette Stadium. They looked horrified and quickly untangled, with the woman turning away and the man dodging the camera. Front man Chris Martin suggested they could be having an affair. The fleeting moment — a fraction of a nightly segment during which Martin addresses various members of the audience — stuck with some concertgoers. In the early morning hours following the show, at least a few took to the internet to post about it. A Reddit user who said they attended the show asked if anyone else was wondering about the couple. One TikTok user said Martin had caught "a couple having an affair" at the show, and another said that they were "constantly refreshing the TikTok search in hopes that someone recorded the couple caught red-handed at the Coldplay concert tonight." They were in luck. Grace Springer, who had fewer than 15,000 TikTok followers at the time, had been recording in the hopes of landing on the jumbotron herself and capturing the moment. Shortly before 1 a.m. ET on Thursday, she posted a 15-second clip on TikTok captioned "trouble in paradise??" "In the moment when I filmed it, I didn't think much of it," Springer, who didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, said during an interview on the British daytime program "This Morning." "But it wasn't until after the concert, where I was debriefing the moment with my friends, and I said, 'Let's review the footage, let's see if it really looks that bad.' And I think it does." Then the algorithm did its thing, pushing the video onto For You pages the world over. The TikTok spread like wildfire. It didn't take long for internet sleuths to identify the pair as Andy Byron, the then-CEO of tech upstart Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, Astronomer's head of HR. Their names came up in the comments of Springer's TikTok video, though it was unclear who was the first to recognize them because the platform doesn't display the timestamp of comments. By 3 a.m., two hours after Springer posted the video, people were starting to look them up by name, according to data from Google Trends, which monitors search volume. The story had changed from an awkward interaction to a corporate scandal. Soon, people all over the world — from Ireland to Singapore — would know their names. "It's really sort of as we're waking up into the day on the 17th, where we see it start to spread," Molly Dwyer, the head of insights for social media monitoring company Peak Metrics, told Business Insider. The amateur internet sleuths then deployed their talents to find the pair's social profiles and those of Byron's wife. Commenters began bombarding Byron and Cabot's profiles, as well as those of Astronomer, which had turned off the ability to comment on posts across channels by Thursday afternoon Meme accounts had a heyday. "That's sort of the bread and butter of clickbait content — laughing at people's poor decisions — and the fact that then it plays into an anti-corporate element just further fanned the flames," Dwyer said. He noted that there has been an uptick in interest in content that is opposed to CEOs. "It was sort of a perfect storm of things that are really viral on social media right now, all coming together." Storyful, a social-media research company, used ticket stubs and raw footage from Springer to corroborate she was at the concert, according to John Hall, an editor for the site. One by one, mainstream news organizations around the world started covering the story. The online chatter kicked into high gear later on Thursday. Peak Metrics tracked 30,000 X posts in the 11 a.m. hour. Byron's name had been Googled more than 2 million times by that afternoon, and more than $65,000 was traded on Polymarket about his chances of remaining as CEO and predictions about his marital status. Brands like Netflix and Nando's jumped in, posting reactions to the clip or commenting on Springer's videos on social media. Think pieces about the surveillance state, sachenfreude, corporate America, and Coldplay proliferated. The saga shows how quickly a single moment can take on a life of its own in the social media age — a lesson others have learned before. While it seemed everyone had something to say, the pair at the center of it all stayed silent. (A fake apology from Byron that quoted the Coldplay song "Fix You" spread on Thursday afternoon before the company said it wasn't real.) Astronomer, a then little-known data startup, broke the silence on Friday with a statement that said the board was investigating the matter. Later that day, Byron was placed on leave. By Saturday, he'd resigned, and one of the company's cofounders, Pete DeJoy, had taken his place. The company found a silver lining in the scandal. "The events of the past few days have received a level of media attention that few companies—let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world—ever encounter," DeJoy wrote in a LinkedIn post on Monday. "The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name." As with any viral moment, the attention was fleeting — and one that must've caught Coldplay off guard, too. "We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd," Martin said on Saturday, when the band took the stage for the first time since Wednesday's concert. Then a warning: "We're going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen. If you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now."

Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Lies to Tate About Giving Birth in Chicago
Days of Our Lives Recap: Sophia Lies to Tate About Giving Birth in Chicago originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Stephanie's Pad: Stephanie is working away when Alex notices how stressed she is about her pitch to EJ. They chat, once again, about her erotic novel project and how worried she is she'll be discovered. Alex, once again, says he's done everything he can to ensure her anonymity. Alex wants to use a particular line about 'forbidden love' in a blurb for the book but she freaks out and says no and also wants it taken out of the manuscript (to whom is that line attributed?). He agrees before she exits. Alex calls Kate and says the author doesn't want to use the excerpt she chose. He hangs up and there's a knock on the door. He finds no one there but there is a package addressed to Stephanie. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: EJ arrives just as Kayla hangs up with Bo. They immediately snark back and forth. EJ wants an office at the hospital but Kayla thinks they are short on space. EJ says it's all good as he'll just take hers. Kayla suggests sprucing up a utility closet near the morgue. She says he may own the hospital, but she runs it. EJ says she used to run it. They argue about his newly implemented budget when she tells EJ to either give her autonomy to run the hospital or she's done. EJ avoids the ultimatum and asks to use Kayla's office for his upcoming meeting with Stephanie. University Hospital – Lobby: Javi is telling Sarah about Holly and Arianna Grace's kidnapping and rescue. Sarah recalls when Victoria was kidnapped and then asks about Little T. She thinks it's clear how much he and Leo love that little boy. Javi admits he is dreading the day they have to give him up. Sarah recalls bonding with a child (Rachel) who she had to give up. She gets a little teary eyed and Javi gets all kinds of apologetic. Sarah says it's not about him as she is simply missing her daughter. Sarah calls Xander and screams at him about keeping Victoria from her. She hangs up just as Kayla arrives to ask what's wrong and give her a supportive hug. Chicago: Sophia is freaking out about all the lies she's telling but Melinda says she'll be able to see it through. Just then, Tate calls again but she ignores it. Melinda says they should stick to the plan so Tate will never know the baby left at the fire station is theirs. She says it's time for them to head back to Salem to deal with Tate and her mother. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Tate runs in telling Brady Sophia is in labor. He talks a mile a minute about Holly and Arianna Grace which stuns Brady. He wants to go to Chicago, but Brady stops him and says he will drive his son. Tate says he keeps calling Sophia and has no clue where she is in the city. Just then, Sophia calls and says she's on her way home as she already had the baby. She lies saying they had a daughter. They hang up and he tells Brady about his daughter. He wonders why Sophia didn't wait for him to meet with the couple in Chicago. Brady defends her saying she wanted to get on with his life much like Tate should. Tate thinks he will always wonder about his daughter and hoping she's having a good life. He gets all teary-eyed when he thinks about having a child who he will never know. Brady promises to support his son every step of the way and they embrace. Hernandez House: Leo holds the baby whilst talking to Chad about being a juror for Johnny's trial. They quickly hang up and he wonders aloud if Johnny is guilty. Javi arrives home and updates Leo on Arianna Grace and Holly. Leo asks about young Douglas and Javi asks if he had any idea the loan sharks would go after Arianna and Holly. Leo says he had no idea young Douglas and Arianna Grace even knew each other. Javi believes him but doesn't understand why he would help a perfect stranger. Leo says he sees himself in Doug and wanted to support him the way John and Marlena did him. He says Javi has changed him for the better and is an open book with him the same way Javi is with him (or is he…). Leo has to leave and gives Javi all kinds of directions about watching Little T. University Hospital – Kayla's Office: Stephanie arrives and is surprised to find EJ in her mother's chair. Stephanie says she is on board to take on the hospital as a client but won't do so unless he accepts all of her terms. She says she won't do anything to undermine her mother and EJ agrees. Next, Stephanie insists there will be no lying, cheating nor stealing on behalf of him or the hospital and EJ agrees. He asks if they have a deal and Stephanie agrees. Just then, Kayla walks in and wonders what the hell is going on. She's furious Stephanie didn't take her advice and accepted the job with EJ. With that, Stephanie exits. Kayla orders EJ not to corrupt her daughter. EJ says he hired her because of her skill as a publicist. Kayla wants to belabor the point but EJ makes his exit. Horton Square: Leo and EJ run into one another. Days of Our Lives Recap: Holly and Arianna Are Rescued Endings Leo reminds EJ they shouldn't be talking. EJ knows he is greedy, but Leo says he isn't like that any longer. He says he's not for sale and makes a quick exit. Stephanie arrives home and says she is officially working for EJ. She spots the package, and Alex says it arrived while she was out with no return address. Kayla tells Sarah about EJ hiring Stephanie to do PR for the hospital. They shift to talking about Xander and Kayla mentions he might benefit from therapy. She goes on to say Marlena offers intensive anger management counseling. Leo arrives home and tells Javi about his run-in with EJ. Sophia arrives to see Tate. He asks about the baby and Sophia says she's gone. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recap! As the Coldplay kiss-cam couple fades into the bushes, here's what the internet hath wrought
After the Coldplay kiss-cam kerfuffle, Chris Martin is back to his years-old tricks while the new Astronomer chief exec thinks the company is now a household name — but is it, really? As the story of the Coldplay kiss-cam couple ducks out of camera range and into history, and we ride that dead horse into the sunset, let us take a moment to examine what the internet hath wrought. First off, singer Chris Martin may have added a new riff to his concert script, post-kerfuffle, warning people at Saturday's Coldplay show in Wisconsin about the kiss-cam to come. Or has he? Folks on Reddit who seem to know many things say no, he definitely has not. The 'fan cam' — turns out it's not a kiss-cam at all, go figure — is a gimmick the band has been using for quite a while. Martin picks out some people in the crowd and spins up a little original song about them. Advertisement '[T]hey've been doing this at their concerts for yearrrrrrrrrs. First time this has really happened,' one Redditor said. 'We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd. How we're gonna do that is we're gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen,' Martin said Saturday, as seen in video taken at the show, which some may notice is followed by comments from many media outlets requesting permission to post the video. 'So please, if you haven't done your makeup,' Martin continued, 'do your makeup now.' Sounds like a fairly anodyne introduction that could easily be followed by, 'Oh, look at these two. All right, c'mon. You're OK. Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.' But hey, that's been done, amirite? Advertisement Grace Springer, the concert-goer who posted the video of the alleged cheaters in the first place, reassured viewers of a U.K. morning show that her TikTok was 'not monetized,' so she made exactly zero dollars from kicking off the dust-up. Then again, Springer is the same person who said, 'A part of me feels bad for turning these people's lives upside down, but, play stupid games … win stupid prizes,' so it would have been kinda perfect if she got rich off the viral moment. She also revealed on 'This Morning' that the moment almost didn't happen, because she didn't think much of the video when she shot it, she said. Advertisement 'It wasn't until after the concert, where I was debriefing with my friends and I said, 'Let's review the footage, let's see if it really looks that bad.' And I think it does,' Springer explained. So of course, she had to post it. Because of course, she did. Clearly, her friends should bear some of the blame. Someone get on that. Now, over at the Free Press, writer Kat Rosenfield had thoughts about all of this bad behavior. 'It was a full-bore public shaming, imbued with an unhinged and vicious glee that we hadn't experienced since, well, the last time millions of strangers rallied to the cause of destroying someone's life — but magnified by the fact that everything and everyone involved was a standard menu item at the Things You Love to Hate buffet,' she wrote. 'Adultery. CEOs. HR representatives. Rich people with linen shirts and expensive highlights. Coldplay, for that matter.' And she was right. The guy tendered his resignation as chief exec at software development firm Astronomer, and the company announced it was launching an investigation into the situation. The original function of public shaming, she wrote, was to keep community bonds strong and hold people who would weaken them accountable. But, Rosenfield said, 'When we take joy in the distress and ruination of other people, we make monsters of ourselves,' in that the internet has turned public shaming into a gleeful, global spectator sport. Excellent point. That said, the video really was entertaining. Irresistible, perhaps, if only because the man in question was married and the woman in question was his human resources subordinate who got caught breaking all the rules that are usually laid out by our friends in, well, human resources. That aside, Astronomer's interim chief executive, co-founder Pete DeJoy, did take a moment to put things in perspective for the business itself, which was somewhat of a non-player character in this twisted game. Advertisement 'The events of the past few days have received a level of media attention that few companies — let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world — ever encounter,' DeJoy wrote Monday as part of a larger post on LinkedIn. 'The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name.' A household name. We ask again — is it, really? The internet jury remains out on that one. Also, speaking of human resources, remember Alyssa Stoddard, the senior director of HR that Astronomer felt compelled to announce as NOT at the concert with former chief exec Andy Byron and top HR honcho Kristin Cabot? That was because numerous stories were written claiming Stoddard was the 'other' woman on the kiss-cam/fan-cam/video, the one who was laughing and smiling and looking forward the entire time. Then there were stories saying that the first stories — some of which reportedly said she had been fired? — were mistaken. And it was all somehow blamed on a rumor that started on the social media platform now known by the very silly name X. 'As confirmed, I was not at the Coldplay concert on Wednesday night and I am not the brunette woman in the circulating videos. I am not involved in this,' Stoddard wrote on LinkedIn, sounding like she was neither laughing nor smiling. 'Being wrongly identified and then publicly harassed has been unnerving to say the least and incredibly difficult, both personally and professionally. 'I kindly ask that my privacy be respected, and that I be left out of this.' If only it were that easy, Ms. Stoddard. If only it were that easy.
