CM Revanth to meet Prez Murmu; push for BC quota Bills
Hyderabad: With the Central government announcing the inclusion of caste census in the next national census, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who happens to be the first CM in the country to conduct the caste survey and adopt two Bills to increase reservations for the BCs to 42 per cent, is now ready to push the demand for the approval of the Bills pending before President Droupadi Murmu at national level.
A delegation, led by the Chief Minister, is likely to meet the President soon and request the latter to give her consent to the Bills which propose to enhance reservations for the Backward Classes to 42 per cent in education, employment and political opportunities, especially local body elections. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has sent these Bills to the President for consideration.
Top officials said that the Chief minister was holding a series of meetings with legal and constitutional experts to ascertain whether the President would give her nod and what measures needed to be taken in case the Bills were not ratified.
'The Centre's decision on the caste census triggered a debate on the legitimacy of the caste census conducted by the Telangana government and the Bills passed to raise the BC quota. Now, the CM got the opportunity to insist on the Centre to get approval for the BC quota Bills from the President,' top officials said, adding that the government would pursue the issue seriously since the local body elections are round the corner.
On March 18 this year, the Assembly had passed the Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointment or Posts in The Services Under the State) Bill, 2025, and The Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Rural and Urban Local Bodies) Bill, 2025. Some experts say that these Bills require a constitutional amendment for increasing the BC quota while others maintained that the President's approval is enough to enact the requisite law.
The state government has already urged the Centre to place its new reservation proposals under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, which protects the government's decisions from judicial review.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said the Centre has approved several projects worth Rs 24,000 crore to streamline traffic and reduce pollution in Delhi and its adjoining areas, including a five-km tunnel between Shiv Murti-Mahipalpur (Dwarka Expressway) and Nelson Mandela Road (Vasant Kunj). The tunnel will be constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at an estimated cost of Rs 3,500 crore, she said, adding that the projects were approved during a recent meeting with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. Gupta said that the work on the project will likely commence early next year. She explained that the tunnel will significantly ease traffic congestion on Rangpuri, Dhaula Kuan, Rao Tula Ram Marg, and National Highway 48 (NH-48). Gurjar protesters end rail blockade in Kota division after govt assurances on their demands
Kota , Rail traffic between Fateh Singhpura and Dungeria station in Kota division of Western Central Railway has resumed after Gurjar protesters vacated the railway tracks following receiving assurance from the government that their demands will be considered. Some members of the community were holding a protest on rail tracks and stalled a passenger train in Bharatpur district on Sunday afternoon after taking part in a Mahapanchayat to press their various demands, including on reservation. The agitators had kept the rail services halted for over three hours between Fateh Singhpura and Dungeria stations, affecting about 10 to 12 trains on the route, the officials said. The protesters had gathered on the railway tracks and stopped the 54794 Mathura-Sawaimadhopur passenger train at Fatehsinghpura near Bayana town, West Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer said earlier. Sourabh Jain, senior divisional commercial manager, Kota , said that state police and railway officials held talks with the protesters, and after some time, they managed to get the track vacated by around 7 pm, following which operations on the track were fully restored. No report of loss of life or injury has been received so far, and the railway is committed to the safety of the passengers, Jain added. Asked about the protest, Vijay Bainsla, son of the late Kirodi Singh Bainsla, who had led several Gurjar agitations on the quota issue, said that the entire community and leaders are happy with the government's response to their main demands. "To get the 5 per cent reservation to Most Backward Classes included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, a proposal would be recommended by the state cabinet and it would urge the Centre . The entire community wanted this. It is a legislative issue. We all are happy," Bainsla told PTI, adding it was their key demand. The Ninth Schedule contains a list of central and state laws that cannot be challenged in court. Bainsla said another demand was that a nodal officer should be appointed in every district to dispose of the police cases against community members during the Gurjar agitation. "The government has agreed to it," he claimed.
