Stalin Asks PM Modi To Intervene In Katchatheevu, BJP Says 'DMK Did Nothing When At Centre'

Chief Minister MK Stalin recalled that the state Assembly had adopted a resolution on April 2 this year, seeking Katchatheevu's retrieval.
Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday alleged that the BJP-led Centre did not have the slightest concern for Tamil Nadu fishermen and that the BJP only does politics over who ceded Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka.
Addressing a government event, Stalin said that the state government is taking all necessary steps to protect fishermen and their traditional fishing rights.
He added that whenever he meets the Prime Minister, he urges the central government to take back Katchatheevu island from Sri Lanka, as this would help permanently solve the issues faced by Tamil Nadu's fishermen.
He recalled that the state Assembly had adopted a resolution on April 2 this year, seeking Katchatheevu's retrieval.
He added that the state is also urging the Centre to ensure the release of Indian fishermen held in Sri Lankan jails and to bring back their seized boats.
'The BJP-led Union government does not have even a little concern for the Tamils or the Tamil Nadu fishermen and they (BJP) are only doing politics over who ceded Katchatheevu (to Sri Lanka)," Stalin alleged.
Further, the chief minister said: 'The power to enter into an agreement with a foreign country is vested with the Union government. For over 10 years now, the BJP has been in power at the Centre. So far, what are the steps taken by them to retrieve Katchatheevu? Have they at least ensured that Tamil Nadu fishermen are not arrested by Sri Lanka? No, they have not."
Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has alleged that Tamil Nadu fishermen trespassed into Katchatheevu and that they will not give up Katchatheevu island.
BJP spokesperson Narayan Tirupathy responded to Stalin's remarks, stating that it was under the Congress rule at the Centre and DMK's power in the state when Katchatheevu was ceded to Sri Lanka in 1974.
'DMK did nothing when they shared power at the Centre for 14 years. We have ensured no firing by the Lankan Navy, unlike in Congress rule, where nearly 1,000 fishermen were killed. We have even saved a fisherman from a death sentence," he said.

Judicial panel clears Siddaramaiah and wife in Muda case

. BENGALURU: A government-appointed judicial committee has exonerated Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvathi in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) scam, after opposition BJP claimed irregularities and a loss of around Rs 4,000 crore to the exchequer through fraudulent land allotments. The one-member panel headed by retired high court judge Justice PN Desai submitted its six-volume report to chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh, nearly a year after it was formed. A senior MLA familiar with the report's contents said Thursday the panel found no illegality in the allotment of 14 alternative sites to Siddaramaiah's wife in exchange for 3 acres acquired by Muda in Kesare village of Mysuru. The panel rejected allegations of misuse of office and ruled out any involvement of the CM in wider allotment irregularities. The findings mark a relief for Siddaramaiah, who already secured legal reprieve in July when Supreme Court dismissed a special leave petition filed by ED. The agency had challenged a Karnataka HC order quashing its notice to Parvathi and cabinet minister Byrathi Suresh. Earlier this year, Karnataka Lokayukta had cleared Siddaramaiah of wrongdoing. Terrorism was not saffron, will never be: CM

Mumbai: Immediately after the special NIA court delivered its verdict in the Malegaon blast case, CM Devendra Fadnavis posted on social media, "Terrorism was not saffron, is not, will never be." State BJP leaders hailed the verdict and slammed Congress for use of the term "Hindu terror," while Dy CM and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde said those who had coined the term 'saffron terror' had "got a slap in the face from the courts. " Speaking to the media, Fadnavis demanded the Congress apologise to the entire Hindu community. He said the Congress-led UPA govt had tried to set a false narrative about 'Hindu terrorism' to appease minorities during elections. "How false was the claim that there is 'Hindu terrorism,' 'saffron terror' has been exposed today," he said. "A conspiracy was hatched to show there is 'Hindu terrorism' by Congress and UPA, which the court has rejected with evidence," he said. Fadnavis is also state home minister. A week ago, on the train blasts case verdict of Bombay HC, he had said it was "shocking" and announced the state's intention to challenge it in SC, which it did the next day. "What kind of investigation was done at the time will have to be asked to the agency at the time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No More Belly Fat! My expectation was they should have complimented that the narrative of 'saffron terror' has been unsuccessful, but perhaps because they have gone with those who do appeasement they are asking these questions," he said. Fadnavis said he would not blame the police. The Congress-led UPA govt had hatched a conspiracy, and to fulfill it, there was pressure on the police machinery. "The police were working under pressure, and they were told there were several incidents of bomb blasts and worldwide a term 'Islamic terrorism' was coined after 9/11. In response to that or to convert the extremists into a votebank, a conspiracy was hatched to bring forth 'saffron terrorism' and appease the minorities by UPA. It is clear these cases have happened from these efforts. UPA more than the police is responsible for it," Fadnavis said. Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the verdict is an exposure of a long-running political conspiracy to defame Hindus. Shinde said, "The innocent have got justice. When arrests happened, UPA was in office. Netas then said terror has no colour but in the Malegaon case, they said it was saffron terror... This was a conspiracy and the accused were trapped in the conspiracy." He added, "We are taking forward Balasaheb Thackeray's Hindutva, so we will fight terror, support patriots."

SC recalls own order directing liquidation of Bhushan Steel

NEW DELHI: In a dramatic yet decisive reversal, Supreme Court Thursday annulled its May 2 judgment ordering liquidation of Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd, which had been revived in 2021 by the Sajjan Jindal-led JSW through a Rs 20,000 crore plan concurrently upheld by NCLT and NCLAT under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code process. Unabashedly admitting that its earlier decision militated against the settled law on inviolability of the decision of Committee of Creditors, a bench of CJI B R Gavai and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma recalled the verdict and posted the matter for fresh hearing next Thursday. The bench also frowned upon the use of Article 142 by the earlier bench led by Justice Bela M Trivedi, who has since retired, to order liquidation of the revived company despite it being in the pink of health. "Powers of Article 142 are meant to do complete justice and not cause injustice to 25,000 employees," the apex court said Thursday. SC's role in IBC proceedings limited, says CJI In an open court hearing on the review petitions filed by Punjab National Bank, the lead creditor for bankrupt Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd, and JSW, solicitor general Tushar Mehta and senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul told a bench of CJI BR Gavai and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma that IBC proceedings aim to revive sick companies and liquidation is only the last resort. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mini House for 60 sqm for Seniors with Toilet and Bath (Price May Surprise You) Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo The CJI said he has, as an SC judge, authored many judgments crystallising disparate rulings on IBC proceedings to lay down the cardinal principle that concurrent approval by NCLT and NCLAT of a revival plan accepted by the CoC cannot be interfered with by SC unless the petitioner challlenging it establishes a perversity. The verdict in the Bhushan Steel and Power Ltd case appears to be in the teeth of SC rulings. Mehta said IBC proceedings were followed to the T and it was the decision of the CoC to approve the revival plan of successful resolution professional, which was concurrently upheld by National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the appellate tribunal (NCLAT) leaving little scope for SC interference. "Liquidating a viable and profit-making entity will be in the interest of none and would create many difficulties for the creditors as well as the successful resolution applicant," he argued. Kaul said JSW has infused an additional Rs 8,000 crore apart from the Rs 20,000 crore, and the company is now in robust health nearly tripling its productions. It now employs 25,000 people in the revived plant. On May 26, a bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Sharma had stayed the liquidation process and ordered status quo after learning that petitions seeking review of the May 2 judgment are pending consideration.
