Foreigner held for illegal fishing

LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a fishing boat for conducting illegal fishing off Felda Sahabat waters, here, on Wednesday. Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali said, the boat was detained at about 10.30am following a routine patrol under Ops Pluto Timur and Ops Tiris. The blue and white boat without registration number was detected at 4.1 nautical miles south of Tanjung Tungku. 'Result of inspection found a 28-years-old foreigner on board. The foreigner failed to produce any identification document or legal permit to carry out fishing activity in the national waters. 'The case would be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959 and Sabah Port and Harbor Enactment. The case will be handed over to the Investigation Officer for further action,' he said, adding that the seizures were estimated worth RM300,000. In the meantime, MMEA stressed their commitment in combating intrusion on national waters by foreigners and illegal fishing activities that affecting local sea resources. Bodies of missing couple Tanjung Harapan boat accident recovered
A TRAGIC boat accident off Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang, has claimed five lives, including a married couple whose bodies were found drowned near North Port early this morning. The incident, which occurred during a test drive of the boat, involved six people. Three died at the scene, one survived, and two were initially missing. None of the victims were wearing life jackets, complicating the search and rescue efforts. The missing couple, Gan Hon Tat and Careen Man, both from Klang Utama, were among the deceased. Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) enforcement and excise unit operations officer Lieutenant Mohd Syafiq Sazali said both victims were Malaysian nationals. 'The bodies were found floating at 7.42am about 0.1 nautical miles from North Port, Port Klang,' he said. 'We recovered the bodies using assets from the Fire and Rescue Department and brought them to the Selangor Maritime jetty,' he added. Man electrocuted while picking mangoes in Papar

The incident was reported at 3.01pm, prompting the District Fire and Rescue team to arrive at the scene seven minutes later. Advertisement According to public witnesses, the victim had climbed a tree and used a metal rod to harvest mangoes, which accidentally touched a nearby live wire. Sabah Electricity cut the power supply before firefighters safely brought the unconscious victim down using a ladder and rescue rope. Three injured in Sook road accident

The Sook Fire and Rescue Station received the emergency call at 11.38am and arrived at the scene, located 4 kilometres away, within seven minutes. Advertisement One of the victims was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued using hydraulic equipment by firefighters. All three victims - a 60-year-old man, a 32-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman - were later handed over to medical personnel for treatment.
