"Boundary of Kolkata airport should be sealed immediately": Suvendu Adhikari
Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said that the current situation at the airport poses a major security risk.
'What is happening at Kolkata Airport is a matter of great concern from a security perspective. Prayers are being performed on the ground. The boundary of Kolkata Airport is not being sealed,' he said.
He expressed worry over the movement of outsiders in and around the airport premises. 'People from outside are coming and going, and there is also connectivity to China and Bangladesh from here. We have demanded that the boundary (of Kolkata Airport) be sealed,' Adhikari said.
Adhikari also highlighted that two newly developed runways have still not been made operational despite being completed with central government funding. 'The two new runways for which the central government allocated a budget, and whose work has also been completed, have not been made operational. Only a single runway is functional,' he said.
He attributed the delay in operating the new runway to an issue involving a religious structure. 'The reason given is the relocation of the Mosque to the secondary runway. This cannot go on,' Adhikari remarked.
Calling for urgent action, he said, 'The boundary wall should be closed immediately. The boundary of such a sensitive international airport should be sealed immediately.'
Meanwhile, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, West Bengal's Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari criticised the state government for not participating in the nationwide celebration.
He alleged that while both NDA and non-NDA ruled states observed the day, West Bengal deliberately skipped it.
Speaking to ANI, Adhikari said, 'NDA and non-NDA state governments are celebrating Yoga Day today, except West Bengal, because West Bengal follows Bangladesh. It does not follow Delhi. More than 180 countries are celebrating International Yoga Day today. As Indians, we are proud of this.'
The sharp remarks came as International Yoga Day was celebrated across the country, promoting the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. (ANI)

SC organisations in Tiruppur float a joint front for retrieval of Panchami land
A joint front has been formed by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and fraternal Scheduled Castes (SC) organisations in Tiruppur district for retrieval of Panchami land. For the first time, the joint front that also consists of Adhi Tamizhar Peravai, Tamilpuligal Katchi, Dravida Tamizhar Katchi, Adhitamizhar Munnetra Kazhagam, Adhhithamizhar Katchi, Makkal Adhigaram, Puratchi Bharatham, Bahujan Samaj Katchi, Samuga Needhi Makkal Katchi, Dravida Chiruthaigal Katchi, Desiya Thazhthappattor Makkal Nala Iyakkam, Viduthaigal Vengaigal Katchi, Tamil Nadu Thazhthappattor Nila Urimai Iyakkam, and Samuga Viduthalai Katchi have joined hands to retrieve about 10 acres of Panchami land in Tiruppur city and surroundings that were now under the ownership of non-SCs. The land registered by other community members must be rendered invalid, the joint front emphasised in a petition submitted to Tiruppur Collector Manish S Narnaware at the Collectorate on Monday at the end of a rally by its members from the Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Bus Stand. The registration of the Panchami land in the name of non-SCs must be scrapped as per the earlier government orders and the rulings of the Madras High Court, A. Tamilvendan State Coordinator, Panchami Nila Meetpu Kootiyakkam, VCK, said. As per the High Court ruling on August 12, 2015, the patta, chitta, adangal and ayan patta registrations of Panchami land in the names of non-SCs will have to be made invalid, Mr. Tamilvendan pointed out. The joint front has submitted the details of the survey numbers of Panchami land under 'illegal occupation' at Pudhupalayam in Avinashi Taluk, 15 Velampalayam village in Tiruppur North Taluk, Tiruppur Town and Nallur village in Tiruppur South Taluk. The petition called for prosecution of Revenue Department officials who were responsible for registration of Panchami lands in the names of non-SCs under Tamil Nadu Government Servant Conduct Rules, 1973, Section 21.3 (11). After submission of the petition, the joint front sat for a meeting to chart out the next course of action. 'After decades of struggle, all like-minded entities have decided to put up a joint fight specifically for retrieval of the land that rightfully belongs to us in pursuit of a tangible outcome, Karthik, Tiruppur district unit secretary of Tamil Puligal, said, adding: 'We are collating information on the Panchami land in Dharapuram, Udumalpet, and Madathukulam. The total extent of Panchami land under illegal occupation and the prospective SC beneficiaries will be determined.'

BJP Kerala secy meets Chhattisgarh CM Sai, dy CM Sharma over nuns' arrest
1 2 Raipur: Four days after arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking and attempted religious conversion of three tribal girls, Kerala BJP general secretary Anoop Antony Joseph on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with CM Vishnu Deo Sai and deputy CM, who is also the home minister, Vijay Sharma, on the issue. He also met the nuns, who are now in judicial custody. Both the arrested nuns hail from Kerala. Nuns Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis, along with Sukaman Mandavi – the person who got the girls to Durg railway station -- were arrested from the station on July 25 on a complaint filed by a local Bajrang Dal worker who accused them of trafficking the girls to another state and indulging in forced religious conversion. Later, a delegation including Congress MPs Benny Behanan from Chalakudy and K Francis George from Kottayam, RSP MP NK Premachandran from Kollam and Kerala legislative assembly member Roshi M John met the CM and deputy CM. Congress MP from Koraput constituency in Odisha, Saptagiri Ulaka, was also a part of the delegation. After meeting the delegation, Sai said Chhattisgarh is a peace-loving state that believes in harmony and coexistence. "People of all religions live here with mutual respect and brotherhood," he said. The three young girls were being taken for jobs and the nuns had come to receive them at the railway station. Then some Bajrang Dal people arrived and assaulted them, he alleged.
