Marvel's future plans: X-Men to be recast, new Iron Man hinted after ‘Secret Wars' reset

Marvel is getting ready to make big changes after Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Kevin
Feige, President of Marvel Studios has confirmed that the X-Men will be recast with new actors, and even famous characters like Iron Man and Captain America may get fresh faces in the future.
Instead of calling it a reboot, Marvel is calling this a "reset" to start new stories while still respecting the old ones.
Marvel Plans Big Changes After 'Avengers: Secret Wars'
Marvel Studios is planning a fresh start for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after the release of 'Avengers: Secret Wars' in 2027. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, recently confirmed that after this movie, new actors will take over the roles of the X-Men and even iconic characters like Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Steve Rogers (Captain America) will eventually be recast.
X-Men actors in 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Before that happens, fans will get one more chance to see some of the original X-Men actors in 'Avengers: Doomsday,' which is set for release in 2026. Actors like Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and others from the older X-Men films will return briefly. Stewart had also appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) showed up in the post-credits scene of 'The Marvels' in 2023.

After 'Secret Wars,' however, Marvel will start introducing new actors to play both familiar and never-before-seen mutant characters. This approach follows a similar path to what happened in the Marvel comics after the 2015 Secret Wars storyline, where different timelines collided and reshaped the Marvel universe.
Kevin Feige's explanation
Feige explained that this isn't about ending everything, it's about creating something new. While Avengers: Endgame was about wrapping up past stories, Secret Wars will be about opening new doors.
He prefers to call it a 'reset' rather than a 'reboot,' saying the word 'reboot' sounds too drastic and confusing. He added that this 'reset' will officially begin with the upcoming X-Men movie.
He also talked about how the X-Men have always been about young people who feel different and don't fit in and that's the kind of story Marvel wants to tell with this new version.
Interestingly, Feige also hinted that more Marvel characters will be recast in the future including the beloved Iron Man and Captain America. While it's tough to imagine anyone replacing Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Evans, Feige pointed out that other franchises like James Bond and Superman have done the same thing successfully. He praised David Corenswet, the new Superman, as an example of how change can work well.
As for Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Feige didn't confirm anything specific but did say that there could still be more fun stories with those characters in the future.
