PM Modi to visit Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh on May 1 and 2
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai on Thursday (May 1, 2025) and Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport in Kerala on Friday (May 2, 2025).
A statement said PM Modi will be on a tour of three states, including Andhra Pradesh, over the next two days.
PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of and inaugurate multiple development projects worth over ₹58,000 crore in Amaravati. He will also be addressing audiences at the events in the three States.
The PMO said the WAVES 2025 is a first-of-its-kind summit in India. The four-day event is poised to position India as a global hub for media, entertainment, and digital innovation by bringing together creators, startups, industry leaders, and policymakers from across the world, it added.

WAVES 2025, which has a tagline of 'Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries', will witness participation from over 90 countries, with more than 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, over 300 companies, and over 350 startups.
The summit will feature 42 plenary sessions, 39 breakout sessions, and 32 masterclasses spanning diverse sectors including broadcasting, infotainment, AVGC-XR, films, and digital media, it added.
The seaport worth ₹8,900 crore in Kerala is the country's first dedicated container transhipment port that represents the transformative advancements being made in India's maritime sector as part of the unified vision of Viksit Bharat, it said.
The strategically important Vizhinjam Port has been identified as a key priority project that will contribute to strengthening India's position in global trade, enhance logistics efficiency, and reduce reliance on foreign ports for cargo transhipment.
Its natural deep draft of nearly 20 metres and location near one of the world's busiest sea trade routes further strengthens India's position in global trade, the statement added.
It said in line with his commitment to ensure world-class infrastructure and connectivity across the country, PM Modi will inaugurate seven National Highway projects in Andhra Pradesh.
He will also launch railway projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and boosting capacity.
Among other projects, he will also lay the foundation stone of a missile test range at Nagayalanka in Andhra Pradesh worth around ₹1,460 crore. It will comprise a launch centre, technical instrumentation facilities, indigenous radars, telemetry and electro-optical systems enhancing the country's defence preparedness.
He will lay the foundation stone of 'PM Ekta Mall' at Madhurawada in Visakhapatnam.
The PMO said it has been envisioned with the objective of fostering national integration, supporting the Make in India initiative, promoting 'One District One Product', generating employment opportunities, empowering rural artisans, and enhancing the market presence of indigenous products.

Census directly related to public welfare, must be done honestly: Mayawati
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) said the census is directly related to the welfare of people and must be conducted honestly and on time. In a series of posts in Hindi on X, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister targeted the BJP over its 11-year rule at the Centre, asking if it has been able to eradicate poverty and unemployment from the country. "The national and caste census was pending since the time of the Congress... the process has now begun. The government on Monday (June 16, 2025) issued a notification for conducting India's 16th census. It will be carried out with a reference date of October 1, 2026, in the snow-bound areas like Ladakh and March 1, 2027, in the rest of the country. In the upcoming census, caste enumeration will also be done, the first such exercise since Independence. The last comprehensive caste-based count was done by the British between 1881 and 1931. Caste was excluded from all census operations conducted since Independence. The decision to include caste enumeration in the upcoming census was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on April 30. In another post, Ms. Mayawati said preparations are going on to formulate a strategy for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Commenting on the 11-year rule of the BJP at the Centre, she asked if the achievements that the party claims to have made are really benefiting the people. "Has the BJP been able to eradicate poverty, unemployment, pain and sufferings of the people? The people will give the answer at the right time," she said.

Cong accuses Modi Govt of delaying caste census, calls it political diversion
New Delhi, June 17 (UNI) The Congress on Tuesday slammed the Modi government for what it called a deliberate 'delay in conducting a caste census', accusing it of politicising the issue to divert public attention — much like the women's reservation bill. Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot, while addressing a press conference here, said that the demand for a caste census, led prominently by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, has long been a priority for the Congress, and the government has only "yielded to this pressure in principle, not in action". "The Modi government is simply managing headlines, not genuinely addressing the issue," Pilot said, adding that the formal notification lacks any mention of a 'caste-based enumeration'. 'The government has claimed that the caste census will begin in 2027, but concerns are growing due to the glaring budgetary shortfall. Only Rs 574 crore has been allocated, whereas such a massive exercise requires at least Rs 8,000 to 10,000 crore,' Pilot alleged. Accusing the central government of lacking both intent and commitment, Pilot said, "The objective is not just to collect data on an individual's caste but to understand the living conditions of these families and create policies to substantially improve their livelihoods." Without tangible data, no state or central government can implement targeted interventions, which is what we aimed to achieve."
