Darren Criss waves PH flag on Instagram as he highlights news about being the 'first Asian actor to win leading actor in musical'

When Darren Criss won his first two Tony Awards on Monday (Philippine time) — Best Actor in a Musical and as co-producer of Best Musical "Maybe Happy Ending" — he made history as the first known Asian actor to win the leading role in a musical category, as mentioned in an earlier GMA News Online report. Playbill Magazine also zeroed in on the history Darren made, saying in an article that "This is Criss' first Tony Award, and he becomes the first Asian American actor to win in the category." On Instagram early Wednesday (Philippine time), Darren posted a screengrab of the Playbill story and in the caption, waved the Philippine flag emoji. None other than theater super star and fellow Filipino Lea Salonga recognized his Pinoy pride on display. In the comment section, Lea wrote, "I knew I recognized that voice! It's mine! Thanks!" Lea first waved the Philippine flag in the global theater scene 34 years ago, in 1991, when she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for "Miss Saigon." Thirty-four years later, she finally gets her Filipino counterpart at the Tony Awards. But that's not all. Nicole Scherzinger also won the award Lea first reaped — Best Actress in a Musical — for her work in "Sunset Blvd." and a 3rd Filipino, Marco Paguia, bagged a Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for the musical 'Buena Vista Social Club.' Klea Pineda, Katrice Kierulf, and more queer couples shine on Preview's Pride Month issue

Queer couples took the main stage on the cover of Preview Magazine's annual Pride Month issue. Among the couples featured are Kapuso actress Klea Pineda and her girlfriend Katrice Kierulf. The cover story is titled 'All the Lovers: The Fight for Marriage Equality in the Philippines,' and features married and longtime couples. 'In a country where family is sacred and marriage is seen as its foundation, the absence of equal rights is not just a legal gap, it's a daily reality. Still, they show up. Still, they choose each other; and in that choosing, they challenge the system that says their love isn't enough,' Preview said on Instagram. 'The road is long, but the heart remains steady because love is love, and love deserves the law.' The other couples are: Ben&Ben's Pat Lasaten and Agnes Reoma; LGBTQ+ activist and news anchor Jervi Wrightson or KaladKaren and husband Luke Wrightson; content creator Deo Cabrera and boyfriend Richmond Tabangcura; Olympic athlete Hergie Bacyadan and content creator Lady Denily Digo; makeup artist Jigs Mayuga and husband Ben Ty; Rocketsets' Rocky Legaspi and Migo Alomajan; and artists Arts Serrano and Agu Crisostomo. More couples include: volleyball players Ella de Jesus and Jema Galanza; fashion designers Nicolo Perez and RJ Santos; athlete Bethany Talbot and tattoo artist Hyna; co-founder and designer Abraham Guardian and producer Gem Ausa; photographers Cenon and Mav; models Raejell Roxas and Catherine Bautista; trans couple Kylie Celebre and Jan Pablo; and content creators Saint Yves and Francheska Lhian. The couples talked about how they met, their marriages and partnerships, and the fight for same sex marriage and equal rights in the Philippines. 'There are those with a lot to risk and lose, people whose safety might be compromised, but for those who are fortunate enough to love loudly, our stories matter now more than ever,' the cover story said. 'They say that to be queer is in itself a defiant act, but in the lives we long to live and tell, ones that deserve to be heard and understood, the only 'luxury' we're really asking for is the ordinary pleasure of loving simply.' Pride Month, happening every June, serves to empower the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community by creating spaces where their identities are celebrated, stories are respected, and their rights are recognized. Pride March and other events also serve as a protest against the abuse and injustices the community faces. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News

Mika Salamanca asks Bianca De Vera for forgiveness after face-to-face nominations on 'PBB'

It's been an emotional few days for Mika Salamanca and Bianca De Vera following the face-to-face nominations "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition." In Tuesday's episode, Mika could be seen trying to talk to Bianca after giving her and Dustin Yu nomination points, but the latter told her she needs some time. Eventually, Mika got to properly speak with Bianca at the dining table. "Sorry na," Mika said, crying, pushing Bianca to tears as well. "I didn't plan to hurt you, but I know it's gonna hurt. I know it's gonna hurt you. And I also thought you'd understand," she added. "Ikaw nagturo sakin noon, kung pano bumoto ng tama." Bianca nodded and said, "I understand." "Na-hurt kita," Mika said. "Never mong i-consider ang love ko sayo for granted. I love you so much." "Love you, too," Bianca replied. "Tomorrow na tayo mag-usap." In the confession room, Mika told Kuya that she feels guilty because she put Bianca in that position. "'Pag hindi ko alam kung saan ako pupunta, alam ko 'pag nilapitan ko siya okay lang, and alam niya 'yun," Mika said. "Siya 'yung nagturo sakin kung paano maging malakas dito sa bahay." "'Yung pagmamahal ko kay Bianca, Kuya, never naman 'yun magbabago. Naka-gain siya ng kaibigan dito, hindi 'yun mawawala," she added. The Kapuso actress then said that their love for each other is "bigger than this." "So ngayon, gusto ko lang po siya bigyan ng time i-process lahat." This marked the first face-to-face nominations of the season. The other housemates also wrestled with their feelings of hurt and guilt, like close friends AZ Martinez and Ralph De Leon. Shuvee Entrata also felt betrayed after getting nomination points from AZ. DusBi (Dustin and Bianca), AzVer (AZ and River), and ShuKla (Shuvee and Klarisse) were the three nominated duos this week. "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition" airs new episodes on GMA Network weeknights at 10:05 p.m. and Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
